Hello all and welcome to episode 17 of the Journey Running Podcast! In this episode, I discuss the general topic of how to become a Registered Dietitian. If you are considering becoming an RD, this is a great episode for you. You will learn the ins and outs about the process and what it takes to complete all the educational requirements. Though, if you are considering hiring a Dietitian as an athlete or nutrition coaching clien...

This is a video about my friend and I running the Bear 100 Mile Endurance Run as Mario & Luigi! We had an awesome time running together for the first 75 miles before splitting up. The Bear 100 course is incredibly difficult and only matched in its toughness by its beauty. The entire course was lit up by magnificent aspen trees and fall colors. We were also blessed in 2024 with two bluebird days...

Cascade Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run (2023)
Просмотров 554Год назад
Hi all, this is a video of my 2023 Cascade Crest 100. The course was an absolutely beautiful out & back (due to trail work going on in 2023). Because of that, the course I ran differs from what most people's experience at Cascade Crest will be like. Still, the course was beautiful and challenging. Also, I don't usually take videos of low points during races, while I try to work through them in ...

This is epic! I wish I would’ve come across you guys out there. Great job on the finish!!
Hey thanks man! Congrats on your finish too! Wild that you are running ultras at 17. Super impressive, keep it up!
@@journeyrunningThanks man! I hope to see you at a race someday!
What a fun time! Love it!!! Bear 100 is on my radar to run one of these days (among a few others). Those fall colors are simply beautiful. Congrats on yet another epic 100 mile finish! (you're my hero)
Lol thanks Chad. It's a beautiful one, highly recommend!
Finally watching this video! Bear 100 is up next ;-) What a beautiful course! Way to crush it!!!
Thanks man! Yeah this is a fun one. The new course is pretty epic!
Could you do a video on your hydration/salt intake intake and nutrition intake? What are the essentials you carry in your pack to get you from aid station to aid station as well as start to finish?
Hey, thanks for taking the time to reply! I can do a video on this. I'm also a Registered Dietitian, so nutrition is my forte, but give me some time. I'm in the process of revamping my coaching business, after which I plan on releasing a lot more content!
Nice Job!
Thank you!
The answer ALWAYS is F@$% YEAH!!!!! Agree totally :)
Overthere also those damnd chemtrails
Great video, Stefan!
Thanks man 🥰
Wow. Nicely done!
Thank you!
What a beautiful course, especially with all that red rock, canyons, and mountains to view. Great job! #beastmode
Yes - it's beautiful out there. Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you run your first 200 too :)
How did I miss this video?! Man, glad I'm seeing this now. Ok, back to your regularly scheduled program (aka, watching this entire video)! More comments to follow ;-)
lol thanks for tuning in Chad!
way to go!!
Thank you!
Way to be, brotherman!
Thank you!
Kudos!! anything else in life will be a cakewalk...
Thank you! I'm not sure if everything else is "easier," life is hard! But you certainly gain more confidence in yourself to do hard things when you finish a 200 miler!
You have a wonderful smile 😁. Great job! My love hate relationship with Candice is real 😅. I'll be attempting the bigfoot 200 for my 4th time in 2024, I have made it 131 miles twice, before missing a cutoff time. 🤞 that 2024 is my year to cross the finish line.
Thank you! Good luck at Bigfoot in 2024! You've got some grit to go back for a fourth try. Shoot me a DM if you want to talk 200's or anything that might help you prep for it. Best of luck!
Great job with the race and the video!
Thank you!
Amazing! Congratulations 💪🏼
Thank you!
absolutely incredible brotha
Thanks man! Happy you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing this alternative route, I am planning to use this route to do the Needle next week. Do you have the gpx file for this route that you can share? Thank you!
Hi Eric, sorry I just saw this. We got our GPX file from trailrunproject.com at the link below. Hope your trek went well! www.trailrunproject.com/trail/7054598/cottonwood-creek-trail-861
Man those views are killer! Great job finishing!
Thank you!
Way to push through! Thanks for sharing your journey.
Thanks! Happy you enjoyed watching!
Awesome job!
Thank you!
What a beautiful journey! Seemed like you did great in the night section until mile 79. Tough race! AND you finished!!! Well done!
Thanks man! It was beautiful out there. I was a bit surprised when that knee pain started in the late 70's.. It took away a lot of my momentum but happy I was able to finish!
Way to be, my Brother! KEEP GOING
Thanks again man! Really appreciate it!
Dropping MAD knowledge, good on ya and great work out there. KEEP GOING!
Thanks man! Right back at ya!
Damn boy! Way to tackle the Monster: KEEP GOING!

Thanks for documenting this! Congrats on such an incredible accomplishment! Planning to run this 2024 as my first 100
Thanks for the support! And good luck at San Diego 100 next year!
Incredible run my friend! Looked like a great course. Can't wait to run my first 100!
Thanks man! What's your first 100 going to be?
Incredible views! Idk how you looked so fresh after 5 hours, congratulations!!!
Lol thank you! Lots of training and experience I guess. And eating... food keeps the wheels churning!
Solid gold Stephan, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Super helpful as someone who is considering MM100 this year. Immensely helpful.
Thanks for the feedback Dave. Happy you found this helpful. Good luck at MM if you end up running it this year!
Thanks a lot for the video. I'm doing 52M in two weeks and have concerns about the moister in my shoes. I did Black Canyon in February, and my blisters were complaining about their blisters at the end. I know it is too late but have you found any good solution to control the moister? I will put shoes and socks into each drop bag, but I want to know if I can do anything else. Have you solved this problem for yourself?
Hey - the best solution I've found is lots of sock and shoe changes. Looking back I should have either stopped at an aid station at Bighorn to let me feet, shoes and socks dry at a campfire. Or I should have changed shoes and socks 1-2 times. I think what happened to me could have been avoided but you live and learn. As a side note, I started using XOSkin socks which help. Roadrunner socks are solid too. But if you experience frequent blisters, I might also consider taping and lubing your feet pre-race. Hope that helps!
Hey nice vid! Looks awesome. I am researching on thru hiking this trail. How many miles did you average a day? You all every run out of water or were the spots pretty good? Thanks!
Hi - we completed the trail in 7 days, which averages out to about 25 miles per day. There were a few longer water carries but nothing too bad. We never ran out of water with lots of snowmelt in June. I would recommend downloading the TRT map on Farout/Guthook (whatever you refer to it as) to check on water sources, which will change depending on time of year you hike the trail.
Is it hard to get in to this race? Does it sell out fast? Do you need to send an application and hope your drawn? Thanks
Bighorn is not a lottery but it does sell out relatively fast. I believe registration opens in the summer/fall and sells out by the spring? But I'm not really sure. No application to run but it's a tough one so I'd still recommend going in with some ultra experience and experience running in hot temps. Hope that helps!
all you need is a handheld a couple gels tbh
Unfortunately not everyone is as fast as you Dave 😂
Pretty early! Lots more snow than I saw starting June 26th but doesn't look like it was any trouble. Looks like this year might be another story though!
Lol, it sounds like there has been a lot of snow in Tahoe this winter. Some of the snow drifts (not shown in the video cause we were busy trying not to slide down them) were pretty sketchy to cross. A little later in the season might be better next summer for sure.
Excellent Vlog, thank you and congratulations! I’m looking forward to this race next June.
Thanks for watching, happy you enjoyed it! Good luck in June!

Hey man great video of the TRT looks sick. I definately want to do it one day. I’m really bad with heights tho. didn’t seem like there was anything too crazy in your video I don’t mind like the 80 degree drop offs just don’t like cliffs. Do you think I could still do the TRT? Or maybe look at a different trail
Hi Chris, I think you'll be fine on the TRT, even if you don't like heights. This was my first thru-hike and it was a great experience. I would consider most, if not all of the trail to be class 1 terrain. There are no cliffs on the TRT. That said, in June when there is still snow, there were a few very short sections (namely when the TRT intersects the CDT) when snow drifts are steep and can be a bit dangerous to cross when there is a drop off on one side. You might want to consider hiking the trail late June/early July to avoid that.

Crazy race! I've never run through the night, but would imaging that having a pacer helps keep you sane. Beautiful area and trail! Congrats!
Thank you Chad! There is something about running through the night and seeing two sunrises during a race that is special. I highly recommend doing it, even if it's just like hiking through the night, not necessarily in a race. Also, Joel was a great pacer. He kept the conversations interesting and me awake for sure! I recommend having a caffeine strategy before an event if you will be up all night though.
(14:20) I was going down that section when the storms were ripping, I was tucking under bushes when possible because of the hail. Congrats on a 27 hour finish, that’s amazing! It took me a bit longer! LOL! But I loved it and I’m going back again next year.
Thanks Curtis and congrats on your finish too! That must have been scary being on that section with storms in full force. I got dumped on during that section but no hail or lightening.
Congrats! My son ran too. This was his third 100 miler and the elevations kicked his butt! Finished in 37 hours.
Thank you! And congrats to your son! There are not many ultrarunners with multiple 100-mile race finishes so that is very impressive!
Yo man! Just watched the Mogollon video. I am signed up for this years race. I would love some advice on it. Im a well trained ultra distance guy. I just ran the black canyon 100k. This will be my first 100miler
@@travisradevski Just seeing this comment. I made a podcast episode (also on RUclips) about Mogollon. I outline the course and advice for tackling the race pretty thoroughly there. Here's the link to the youtube video, but you can also find the episode on Spotify, Apple podcast, etc. if you want to listen while driving or cooking or something lol. ruclips.net/video/iGqfi7Ttu3w/видео.html
Amazing job! Your finish time is incredible. It took me nearly 35 hours, but I did get my buckle! It’s amazing to relive those memories, that was not an easy course!
Thank you and congrats on your finish as well! That was a super tough course but a lot of fun and the buckle was well worth it. Props to you for gutting it out, even if it took a little longer!
Thanks for sharing - you crushed it!
Thanks for watching, happy you enjoyed it! Happy running to ya!
tbh I’m bummed the Stefan Schuster website is down but this is a killer alternative 💪🏼
lol thanks man. Not sure if the ultrarunning talk is up your alley but appreciate you tuning in!
loving your videos mate. Following in your footsteps at never summer, pawnee buchanan, and now planning a R2R2R. really helpful getting your POV on each
Hi David, thanks for following along! I really appreciate the positive feedback. Also, those are some awesome routes and races you are doing! Good luck with your running journey and let me know if you have any questions about any of those routes!
What month was ur TRT hike? June?
Hey - our TRT hike was June 9 - 15 this year. There was a decent amount of snow going counterclockwise up Relay Peak and when the TRT met the PCT. A bit cold some nights but overall a good time of year to go. Would recommend spikes if you go this time of year in the future.
Thanks for posting your experience. I'm hoping to get in and run in 2023. Inspiring work!!!
Hi Lu, thanks for watching and happy you enjoyed the video! The Bear is so tough but so beautiful and the community that puts on the race is inspiring. I am hoping to go back within the next few years as well, maybe see you there!
You're amazing my friend! Glad you were frolicking through the woods at mile 57. Haha! Congrats on being 1st place. Almost seems like they weren't expecting anyone to finish yet. Not much of a welcoming party.
Thank you! And LOL, it was quiet on the track but there were a few volunteers on the lookout for finishers. Hard to blame people for not wanting to be up at before 5am on their Sunday though haha
