Your PC or laptop is still a decent one, and it runs Windows 10. However, it’s doomed because Microsoft has announced the exact date when they will have stopped supporting Windows 10. In this video, we will show you certain basic tasks you can do in the same or nearly the same way in Linux as in Windows 10.

Things To Do After Installing Manjaro Linux (2023)
Its normal windows boot faster than linux i tested at same drive on my pc linux mint vs windows 10 at boot speed windows win but at the performance linux win
Virtual user's talk crap and I'm being nice
windows 7 still works very well so its not out of support for more years
I switched to Linux Mint yesterday, but did not have the time to properly go through it and try to discover what does what? I came here today and found this handy little video, and it was perfect. I needed to change because i was not going to invest into another Windows Operating system. This is a well put together video and has explained to me, the basics of getting to know Linux. The only thing Linux cannot do is to give me my vpn that i was using, and it will not allow me to watch Peacock television, but apart from that, i`m happy with LInux. Once again, an awesome job with this video and many many thanks. I will have to check later, to see if you have prepared anymore videos like this. Many thanks.
I wish u added a timer on both cuz they. Look the same
Well presented and informative for prospective new users.
Thank you so much! 🙂
Another great video! One of my favorite aspects of using KDE was the ability to add desktop widgets. That's something I haven't been able to have on windows since Windows 7.
Thanks a lot both for your comment and for sharing your experience! 🙂
I'm considering switching from Windows 10 as my pc doesn't support W11. Your video was very useful as it showed what to do if you encounter a problem. I like this as it shows reality and stops a inexperienced user like me panicking and rejecting the software. Thank you very much.
You're welcome! There's no need to panick! It's very easy to find help nowadays when it comes to Linux! Thanks for your comment!
thanks for the overview and workarounds
Thanks to you!
SOFTWARE STORE BEST ONE
What was your point of this video? Get people to switch to Linux or get people to stay on Windows? Showing that the simple thing of just installing the OS renders errors is not the way to get me or other Windows users to switch. I do not believe any of my Windows installations ever got an error. And I have used Windows since 3.11. Erase this video and remake it because you are only hurting Linux!
That's a good question, and thank you for that! We couldn't do a video and hide things from people! The point is that one can switch to Linux easily, and she/he can stumble upon issues in the process. However, they should not be scared by the issues, the issues are not that hard, and it's easy to find help for any problem people might encounter. So, thank you one more time!
I like the video. It's always great to know various work around. Thank you for this video. Definitely keep it up.
@@jschudel777 Thaaanks!
Having just installed Mint on a windows 11 laptop today without difficulty, (with You Tube instruction) I am fine learning the way to correct errors as I have never used Linux previously. If a person is not ready to learn what is needed to deal with a new OS then he or she should stay with whatever they are comfortable. I have used and continue to use windows for decades and Mac since it first came out. I am 81 yrs old and want to continue my education and wish to become familiar with Linux as much as I am able.
😮@@user-vh6qt3mp9l
Nice. But if someone new have this bug on update app, he will uninstall system very fast.
true lol. im currently trying to switch from windows to linux so im watching tons of guides. and the first thing i see are bugs like that. missing mouse driver / software, nvidia problems and so on. I am already completely demotivated right now
@KAKUN_DESU Don't get too discouraged. We're going to either have to learn Linux or get used to big tech owning our computers and all the files on them. I've been toying off and on with Linux for some years now and I've always ended up back on windows because it is just easier to keep on with what you already know. But I think this whole Recall crap is finally pushing me over the edge to where I'm ready to say eff windows, instead of dual boot playing with Linux as a second OS, it's time to make that the primary and maybe keep a small windows install for a few games that I can't play on Linux
Always useful! Keep the good work!
Thank you so much! Your support means the world to us!
Was thinking of moving from Windows to mint. Your video has convinced me not to. First thing you tried to do didn't work and you had to use command line workarounds. Linux isn't for me . . .yet.
Just change the sources for your updates. The software sources application should be in the menu. Setting sources to something nearer you may be preferable anyway, but you can try others if they are faster. Any source can have a glitch from time to time, but it doesn't matter because you can choose a different one. One not working doesn't mean the whole distro is broken, just that one source had a problem. Just try another one. I've done it a number of times for the same reason as in the video, and to get faster downloads. I ran Mint for about 10 years and had very few problems. I suggest trying Mint on a separate drive. That way you can choose which one you want when booting up, try Mint from time to time or run Windows if needed.
Like windows don’t run into issues 😂😂😂
I don’t think anyone should just fully switch, but at the same time Windows is a lot more problematic with installation than any other OS. Like not being able to just install without finding tricks to do without an account user. I just recently started the transition and I’m really enjoying it. I still have Windows, but mint is very fun to work with it just work.
@@gioriv Glad it's working for you!
If u r not sure try first in virtual machine. I personally had no issues with mint till now. Eqsy installation everything is gui based no commandline.
Manjaro+AUR :D really?
that you consider perfect give me a break click bait for sure
By Linux system do you mean desktop?
I've never had those problems with Manjaro. But I use XFCE because KDE is way too bloated for my taste.
All right. Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
never knew Manjaro would be this troublesome...I'm on MX Linux and the experience has been smooth sailing so far.
Thank you so much for your comment.
be careful
NEVER TURN ON THE AUR NEVER UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM IS GONNA BREAK
Thanks for your comment and for sharing your experience with Manjaro.
Hmmm... I'm going on 4 years with multiple updates per week and double digitnapps from the aur - maybe you should switch to arco or regular arch
@@DevAngelo Thanks for your suggestions!
What I've been saying is that Manjaro affects feelings and that's powerful and strange for me, as I've always been a Windows user. I had been trying for decades to use a Linux distro that was good for me. I used Fedora for a while about 3 years ago but it made me go back to Windows. I have tested dozens of Linux distros and I can say that today Manjaro is perfect for me to the point that I will never use Windows again. I formatted more than 5Tb to never use Windows again, I cut out the cancer that was afflicting me. I took a snapshot of Manjaro with everything I need to live like this for 20 years, that's true.
Great. Thanks for sharing your valuable experience.
My install has worked fine for almost 4 years with only two small issues (things I did). I updated to plasma 6 and have had no real issues. Manjaro KDE is still one of my top 3 distros ever.
Thanks for sharing your valuable experience! After using it for about six months, our conclusion is that Manjaro is the best when users use it as it is, without adding either Flatpak or AUR.
Same here... been rolling on Manjaro KDE for years with only a few small resolvable issues after updates.. I don't encounter speed or stutter issues this video discussed.. I have a few AUR apps installed and use the paru helper to install & update AUR packages.. I'm gonna look into adding the Chaotic-AUR repo to install pre-built packages in future.
@@chairman67 Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Manjaro KDE.
Great well presented Video. Now I will maybe stop Distro Hopping and get away from Windows 11 more. I am at this stage but after much trial and error, I am running LMDE on a seperate Mini-pc so I don't screw up my work Machine.
Thank you so much! That's a good approach!
I cant display on my tv as 2nd screen (mirror or extend) through hdmi. It works on windows
I haven't had that problem. Install arandr and lxrandr to see if you can get things working with them. They should show up in the menu after being installed. If not, log out, back in, and check again. Good luck.
Bravo kralju
Hvala drugar!
Mine runs on a 13 year old Toshiba Satellite....... no problems.
Of course! It's Linux Mint! 🙂
What desktop environment did you use?
@@anlexaify Cinnamon
It seems final build out now, I'm gonna install it on my Thinkpad T560 and started to focus on work and gain so much dollar with it.
Nice.
Thanks!
But since it's not rolling, it's useless.
Lol... dozens rollings out there, use... OpenSUSE TW can be option for you on RPM systems.
Works like a charm. The xz backdoor on this one, as well...
Thanks for your comment. Well, the video was recorded before the news on the xz issue. Anyway, we usually test betas in VMs. Just in case.
it broke my bootloader
It's still in Beta. Maybe you should've tried it in VirtualBox.
Hvala puno :)
Hvala Vama! 🙂

Thank you so much Ben! Cheers!

couldn't even copy the home folder due to symlinks error for icons... I even used "VBoxManage setextradata VM_NAME VBoxInternal2/SharedFoldersEnableSymlinksCreate/SHARE_NAME 1" but no luck

I started using Ubuntu in 2005. Here we are in 2024 and Linux is still not "mainstream"
Almost the same here. Some of us started using Linux all the way back in 2003 (Knoppix, Mandriva I think); Ubuntu in 2006 with Dapper Drake. And that's a good thought about the 'mainstream'. But somehow, we believe things would have been even worse if it wasn't for Ubuntu. Thanks for your comment!
If you use a distro, you're NOT a Linux user. I watched the masses of morons jump on the distro bandwagon for twenty years and seen the destruction of Linux so predictably caused by them as they hop from one distro to another, never learning anything about Linux, only hopping from one prepackaged "distro" to another. Idiotic wannabes who can't be bothered make their own system pretending to be something they are NOT!
First time I installed Manjaro was horrible. The distro broke after any update! I went straight to Debian after that. Stability is essential. It was about 2 years ago, but I'm not willing to use Manjaro again.
🙂 Debian=Stability!
@@bostechmo I hope Manjaro to become much more stable too.
cheers m8, thanks for the follow up video
Thanks to you!
Very buggy. Don't know about now, but on past, when I installed something from AUR, after major update , always boot loader was break Grub. So after a lot swapping I settle with Garuda. No issues at all and better optimized in performance than Manjaro
Fair enough. Thanks for sharing your experience with Manjaro (and Garuda, of course).
Odličan video 🇷🇸🇧🇦

Thank you but windows is better because of game support
Fair enough. Thanks for your comment.

I remember using Manjaro back in 2020 with no issues it was a great experience, I eventually moved to Arch Linux + Plasma and still running it today
I'm too
Manjaro is the distro I keep coming back to. Ive tried a few other Arch derivatives and OpenSUSE and Fedora. All the other Arch derivatives gave me issues within a very short space of time but Manjaro just keeps working. Shrug I dont know what people are doing that causes Manjaro to break so quickly. I know several people in the Manjaro community that have had the same install for 4 years +. Admittedly my Main Manajro install blackscreened after an update after running for 2.5 years (this would have been fixable but not by me) But my other 2 installs also around 2 years old continue without issue. I have AUR and Flatpak apps installed. I try to keep AUR apps to a minimum though.
no because there is no fortnite support
Thanks for your comment!
yet* and you can install og fortnite or an windows virtual machine
@@Filipex13 Thanks for the suggestion! ;-)
It will work flawlessly till a major update and then your screwed, very ancient manjaro secret.
Thanks for sharing your experience with Manjaro.
Weird. I have flatpak and AUR enabled and my install of Manjaro KDE has been working perfectly for almost 4 years.
@@dragonballjiujitsu Yep I Also have Manjaro installed across 3 machines. While my main machine did break after 2 years the other 2 machines continue running with no issues at all. I really dont know what people are installing to make Manjaro break in 6 months.
Right now my Manjaro install is borked because of update drama too. No aur, no extra repos other than flatpak. Has happened twice before.
@@RUclipsCensorshipStinks Oh I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I have been running Manjaro since it came out and I used to have all kinds of issues with updates. But I don't anymore.
Nice video! I use to be a huge Manjaro fan several years ago. That is until they went Corp and their build standards dropped. I have stayed away from using them on critical systems where down-time is not an option (mainly from the dreaded Update FUBAR). I still use Manjaro on desktop systems as long as Timeshift is installed and those systems can be down for no-longer than 20 to 30 minutes. In my "Eye", I hope they can redeem themselves in the future. In Manjaro, it's nice to have practically every piece of software available in the repos without needing to access some weird 3rd party repo. For critical systems, I stick with either Pure-Debian or LMDE. On these systems, I rely on PACSTALL and BREW to install needed/updated software.
