BMW Oil Filter Cap Separated! (Lifter Tick/Oil Starvation Cause)

You NEED to watch this before changing your BMWs oil and filter! This one mistake could cost you thousands in damages! If you have lifter tick this could be your problem! When changing the oil in your BMW, make sure the your oil filter cartridge does not separate from your oil filter cap. If separation occurs and isn't caught it can cause lifter ticking and oiling issues! Not all cartridges are...

How do I do this on e93 is the switch located in the same spot ?
Cap off, empty the tank, put in new fluid, cap on, start car and steer left, right, left, right, left, right and back to centre. Remove cap and remove the last of the old fluid, top up with new fluid, replace cap, done.
Happened to me yesterday. Snapped it back in, and ordering a replacement Uro cap.
I'm sure it'll throw a STORED CODE and not a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I'm doing it anyways because my actuator is making embarrassing noises, so I'd rather have it open then to drive a BMW that sound like a 30-year-old beater on startup.
So the filter is located inside of reservoir?
you missed 4/7
My old bulb is stuck in the socket and nobody can get it out.
is there some kind of trick to unplugging the connector because i cant figure it out. i have literally the exact same car but in grey
Exactly the info we needed. Thanks!!
I have a problem with mine not moving side to side, only up and down. Should o replace?
Mine wouldn't snap back onto the cover and so i ordered a new assembly. While i waited i still had to drive my 335i to got to work and i started getting VANOs exhaust codes and limp mode was activated. Im parking it until my new cover and gasket comes in hopefully today.
Hi, my car went into limp mode and threw 2a87 and 3100 code. I cleaned solenoids and Vanos filters, no diference. I also checked my oil filter cup and The cup and The other part are separated and i can’t snap it back. You had same problem? And did new cup solved your problem?
I bought a new assembly
@@erikalvarez4516 and the codes and limp mode went away?
thank you
Both exhausts are open after 66 seconds anyway, so it appears to me that all this does is open both exhausts at start-up. I don't understand the purpose for doing this.
Just so you know this does raise a code on the car but its not something you will see from the car itself. If you use a scan tool, like a garage or dealer would, you will see the code. This isn't an issue though, generally if you put it in for a service and forget the garage will call you and tell you there's a problem, you can just tell them what you've unplugged and they will plug it back in for the test. Nice and easy. I've done a similar thing on my 440i Gran coupe, unplugged the main lead to the actuator, no code in car, shows code on scan tool, no biggie if you know it's there
lol.. sounds identical.. I think the saying goes "nothing in life is free", something like that
What about those long “doors” that open and close. What if those broke. I had my phone holder attached to one and I guess it was to heavy and the whole clip broke
Thank you. Very usefull to understand to remove bulbs easily on my BMW X1. 10' to do!
So I removed the connector and it doesn't sound any different to me. It still smooths out and quiets down after the usual 66 seconds. Am I missing something? Anyone?
Just want to thank you again. Changed both bulbs without any issues. The trickiest part was undoing the clips that hold it in place. 😁
Hoping to do this soon to my Wife's car. Awesome video which is going to save me $$$. BMW dealership quoted $557.63 for Bulb and $149.00 labour (for one bulb). Thanks again - I have subscribed.
I have a 335is and just did this. No codes, but it doesn't sound any different to me.
Wish you would have shown sounds of steering the wheel BEFORE and AFTER. thank you though.
Good info thanks.
I have a e93 n54 hardtop and I can’t find the same panel u have
Thank you so much!! Worked amazing and I thought I had waste gate rattle!! This fixed everything
are you referring to the metallic rattle that comes when starting the engine on a cold start?
@@christiaanderyck2233that’s from the little valve inside of the muffler. It is presumed to be to keep the car quieter when the engine is cold and on low RPM’s. Some think it’s for the car to warm up quicker as only one exhaust will be opened, not too sure but it is the valve inside the muffler making that sound. Wish I saw other videos and did some research before I replaced my muffler, wasted $500+ only for it to happen again and for my exhaust to now be crooked 🫠
Hi. ATF or CHF oil. And why how. Can i go from ATF to CHF?? CHF is much better oil ?? or
my oil cap separated too. I put it back and don't have any issue.
It wasn’t broken?
very badly explained video... how is that wing in the back lock suppose to stand on putting new bulb in.. at 3 pm or 5pm(as it can be turned clockwise to) ... what angle did you hold ur bulb box when put in the socket? .... i am bulling my hair out and yell loud to BMW why someone that can make such good car.. make so super stupid bulb systems... !!!
Aftermarket filter, also extended oil changes will cause the filter to shrink. Use bmw grade oil filters and do the oil changes max 5,000 miles. Don't do the 10,000 mile change. Good engine, usual oil and coolant leaks.
It does throw a code. Unplugged with car off
As a serious BMW fan myself that is completely unacceptable that the oil filter has pretty much already destroyed itself within only 3,000 MI since last oil change. I have a 2005 E46 330i zhp with almost 200,000 miles on the odometer and I changed my oil and filters every 3,000 mi. I have never had an oil filter collapsing on itself like that before. I have on my car since new when I purchase it in 2005.
I just removed my oil filter and it was the same. The cage detached from the cap, and the filter was a bit collapsed like that. I think it collapeses because the cage was not in place correctly when tighten the cap on. I took my car to a Valvoline oil change place. They put a made in china filter, and not sure they replaced the rubber gaskets. My car was also making noises like lifter tick and is still making some noise. I stopped driving and opened the oil filter to inspect, maybe the cage thing is related. Luckily there was not metal shavings in the filter.
How do you leave the menus and go back to "normal mode" where the speedo shows the actual speed and whatnot? Do you just put in gear?

Thank you for the good video and thank you for introducing tools related to brake oil exchange. May there be hope and peace in Ukraine.
Could be easier to just use new clamps.
Where is the connector located on the Z4 e89? Can't find it in any side of the boot?
Good stuff, thanks. New to JB4 on n54. Wonder if there are even more features now, early 2022. Good source to learn more?
Just got my jb4 today and got it installed. Curious where everyone is getting their information on what each map is etc? I learn better by reading from a direct source

My F10 doesn't have the removeable round cover, it's got a few torx bolts around the assembly, trying to figure out how to change my dipped beam bulb out without a trip to the workshop
Thanks brotha
Can I use this for my 2009 323i?
Is it reversible? If I plug the thing back in does it go back to normal?
Yes it does.
Took my e90 to the stealership for some warranty work years back and I got it back with 2 of them missing and 1 hanging by a thread. I confronted the service manager and was told "not our fault". Honestly, IMHO, when they have the crews clean up your car they wash and dust it inside. I can see the minimum wage help wiping a rag across the dash and wacking off 2 of them without even knowing it. My BMW won't see the inside of that stealership ever again.
Got mine from the junkyard for $2 for 3 of them. Got an extra pair . But they look different then the ones you go from Amazon
Fuck it i broke 2 xonon light fucking bmw, u cant fit with ur hand therw
My bulb isn't coming on. BMW e87 120i.
Incomplete job. You just renewed reservoir & left all the old fluid in rack & pump. Why the hell didn't you drain all the old stuff while doing it?
like i keep saying bmw are different if u have active drive you cant drain this empty malfunction will occur
@@dflex4180 nope, don't have to drain empty, just hook up a tube to return pipe & steer lock to lock, pumping new fluid through entire system while keeping fresh fluid topped up.
@@stevesas632 Much better idea than messing with the line going into the rack. Which hose is the return line? The one coming from the bottom of the reservoir or the side?
@@aaronwilliams8600 yes, the return hose is the highest one on the reservoir. So satisfying seeing the old dark fluid become nice & light as you turn steering wheel lock to lock & pump new stuff through.
@@stevesas632 Cheers mate. Thanks for the reply!
I did this and closed it again now it won’t open
There's some important stuff above map 8, so why would you just stop explaining everything??? You should go over all of it, or none of it. Making a half-assed vid doesn't help us...
Map 8 is great if you blow your charge pipe up or something but it’s not commonly used except to not build boost.
Hi thanks for sharing. Are these still good and functional?
Hey my 07 335i N54 I was messing with the steering wheel controls and now it’s on transport mode do you know how to turn it off ??
