Cinque ports Christmas match final part

To the winners the spoils, prizes for all and with a last gasp skimmer i was 7th overall and John Williams jnr from fancied end peg 20 won the match with just over 2lbs Alan Yates second with 1lb 14 oz and just five anglers broke the 1lb barrier. Some very good canal anglers struggled today and my 14oz was not so bad!

With the whistle about to go i get a small ball of punch bread ready and then fill the micro feeder and put a single white maggot on the hook.

The drawbag was fair to me for a change and i am the right side of the walk bridge. Peg 17 with hot peg 20 (end peg) The one to beat. I am starting on a tiny cage feeder just in case any fish have moved over out of pole range, after this i will try the punch and then the worm.

The day dawned clear and with no wind, temps were 6 degrees so after weeks of wind and rain a few fish will be a bonus!

It has been rock hard today and with just half an hour to go i have two bream one roach and a micro perch for about 4lbs,some good anglers have called it a day and gone home, will my catch be enough? The scales will tell.

Well i am off to a good start with a nice 3lb bream on worm head over the worm/slop line. The punched bread was poor only producing one small roach so we will forget that line for the match.

I have drawn peg 10 so about middle of the stretch, on my right is Graham Slingsby a good canal angler so i will keep my eye on him! I will fish three lines bread, pinkie and slop also chopped worm and slop.

The day dawned a little wet and windy but mild,Ladies walk is one of my favorite stretches of the RMC as if it is tough it is tough for all!
Practice session for Sunday final part.
Просмотров 6314 дней назад
Well after three hours and the feet have gone freezing it is time to head home for a cuppa, just that one bite and one bream so the canal i feel will fish just as hard! Forecast is warmer but wet so that may just help us on Sunday.
Practice for Sunday part two 29/11/24
Просмотров 7814 дней назад
After thirty biteless mins the float dips under and i have a fish! It is a battered old warrior of a bream but at about one and a half pounds very welcome.Cold hands and a hook that has stuck in the landing net do not help but the small worm head has got me out of jail.

With a match on Ladies walk Hythe on Sunday i have popped up to Evegate to try a few things as i could not get to the canal,it will give me an idea as to how difficult Sunday will be.

My tip pulls round and a fish is on! I have had three bream and a ghost carp so let us see what we have here.

Next door Pete Joiner has a lovely 8-9lbs common carp on the waggler fishing about 20mtrs out and it gave a good account of its self.

After the disaster of the knock up on Sunday i chose a peg with a cast to an island (what i did not have Sunday) And expect a few bites.

Not to bad Wes😂 Good luck next weekend🎉
Thanks Joseph roll on Summer! have a super Christmas.
Good angling for this time of year mate.
So looking forward to the Spring Ian! You have a good christmas mate.
@wesleyshrubsole3531 Same to you and yours Wesley.
Please don't tell me Alan Smith framed, lol
@@geraldhinde681 Hi gerald,no not this time mate,it must have been tough! Lol
Good luck with your draw mate.
Thanks mate the bag was nice to me today.
Don’t keep us hanging Wes did you win??
He is building up the suspense 😅
Last bloody video did not load! No lads just third,Andy camber had 9lbs (3) bream and Alan Smith a cracking 3lb 6oz tench and bits for 5lbs,my 4lbs not quite enough!
@@IAN-DIXON.. 3rd Ian suppose better than 4th! Lol
@wesleyshrubsole3531 3rd is in the frame mate, well done.
@@wesleyshrubsole3531 Still good angling Wesley.
Good angling mate
Thanks mate it was bloody hard going! My mate was up the parade in those big seas but just hoards of whiting!
@wesleyshrubsole3531 Those cod don't seem to want to come this far up the coast, keep seeing reports from Sussex and Hampshire but very few from Kent.
Yes the North is alive with them, must be cooler water up there.
The very first place I was taken proper freshwater fishing was that stretch, I remember a tackle shop just a few minutes away with a big Pike mounted up on the wall, was it called Walker's? Best of luck mate.
Hi Ian yes mate that was a proper old school tackle shop
@wesleyshrubsole3531 I remember being fixated with that Pike on the wall, it was proper old school in there with all the peacock quill floats on display.
Yes and they made split cane rods to order.
@wesleyshrubsole3531 I bet there aren't many of those still kicking around sadly. Like a rhubarb stick to play fish on though lol.
The bigger fish take slightly longer to completely switch off whereas the smaller fish are the first to switch off. Hat's off to you for getting out there and having a go. Nice video mate.
Good angling mate, blank avoided.
Phew! Only just lol
@wesleyshrubsole3531 Good luck at the weekend mate, I do hope you get a decent draw this time lol.
Mid water is where they seem to go once the temperatures really drop. Definitely think the liquid grounbait will get their attention. Good luck a flask and a meddle for you mate.
Thanks Ian i will give that a try
I have seen this in a couple of lakes over the years where all the small fish shoal up in mid water normally in the deepest part of the lake but the lakes larger inhabitants were still active. I think it's like a bowl of warm water cooling down slowly, the warmest bit will be in the middle, unless the wind decides to bugger it up lol.
good effort wesley new subscriber too cheers martyn van life fisherman 👍👍
Hello Martin many thanks for subscribing glad you like the little videos though i do not think i will ever win cameraman of the year!
@@wesleyshrubsole3531 practice makes perfect or so they say 👍👍
Multi skilled mate! Catching carp and swim clearance all in one lol. Good angling mate
Thanks Ian what a diference when you can chose your own peg!
@wesleyshrubsole3531 hahaha that's very true mate.
John Lowe was my all time favourite darts player closely followed by Tony Brown for obvious reasons. Can't beat a good game of arrows mate.
I was lucky enough to have played both of them,Tony was overlooked but was no 2 in the world at his best.
@wesleyshrubsole3531 I used to stand in the off licence part of the 3 cups pub and watch him practice when he was in there. He got the yips as Eric called it. I was a good pub player but nowhere near their level.
Same mate got to play superleague for Folkestone but not in his class
@wesleyshrubsole3531 I miss the old darts nights. It used to be a big social thing with pubs from Dover Deal Folkestone etc and the characters along the way. It ain't the same these days.
Very true mate also now the cost of a night out! Last week at darts with my Mrs two drinks £11.60! And to think back in the 80s i played five nights a week!
When they switch off they really do switch off. Good luck with the sea fishing Wesley.
Cant do worse! Lol
That's fishing for you, mate, lasts Thursday was down swallow brook lakes belonging to sandwich and District AA it's a good mixed fisherys but both me and my brother blanked it was only 4 degrees all.day very calm.but the fish did not want to no
Hi Gerald yes mate it beggers beleif where all the fish go!
Ask Alan Smith he might no lol
@@geraldhinde681 In his keepnet! Lol
Shallow gin clear open water is not exactly ideal mate. At least you gave it a go.
Got a bit of bait so down the beach after this blow i think!
@wesleyshrubsole3531 That sea must be cod coloured now. Definitely worth a go mate.
@wesleyshrubsole3531 I would think there is tons of free bait all around dungeness after this wind churned it all up. I remember filling two big buckets with razor fish and big black lug after a big storm. That was back in the days of big catches of flounders along our coastline and proper cod.
Better draws next year mate.
Cant get much worse mate, still we dodged this storm.
@wesleyshrubsole3531 rain would have multiplied the torture mate.
You all deserve a medal mate.
It was a nice day Ian thats what makes a biteless session worse.
@wesleyshrubsole3531 Never mind mate you went out and tried.
Disgorgers 5 for a pound on temu 😅
Electric underpants are great until your plumbing starts leaking mate 😅😅
Oh thats f**ked it already there! Lol
@wesleyshrubsole3531 same here, especially if I caught a good fish and got excited lol.
Sound is fine mate. At least it's dry. That sea needs to be chocolate coloured for a chance of a codling.
Thanks Ian,yep colour required.
Mic not working well
Hi Joseph not the camera mate its me,trying to be clever and covered the mic to lose wind noise....too bloody well! Lol
@wesleyshrubsole3531 oh well lol
That is the only section of canal I haven't fished. It looked chilly.
Yes mate bright but cold, lots of pike having a go!
@wesleyshrubsole3531 Dread to think how many jacks must live in the canal, they know the silver fish will start concentrating up in bigger shoals through the winter.
@@IAN-DIXON.. And the mink Ian two seen today, wonder there are any fish at all.
A walk around the lake and a chat with Pete Joiner...been waiting years for this..🙂
Thanks Harry, just got a new camera so Sunday will be boom or bust!
no rain Sunday wes.....
Hi Harry thats good news mate just freeze in the dry! lol
Someone should invent a pole mounted catapult with distance markings calibrated to the catapult elastic. Is that a thing mate ?? 😅
There was a device called a "polecat" it was a great idea but very noisy and scared the fish off!
@wesleyshrubsole3531 scrap that idea and carry on with the pole pots lol
Using a catapult like Pete was is not as easy as it looks, it's all backwards to me lol.
He is a Class act Ian but must try harder! Lol
Autumn is about to become winter. I would rather have the cold snap than have more rain. Nice video Wesley.
Thanks mate, yes cold beats rain anytime.
Big bass will still loitering around.
Hahaha I was looking at the moon thinking it was your headlight 😅 the obligatory dogfish saves a blank.
Yes mate that filming in the dark is a bugger!
@wesleyshrubsole3531 I bet mate.
@wesleyshrubsole3531 You need a spotlight on top of a really tall tripod, but you will also need a crew to carry it lol.
@@IAN-DIXON.. Think you are right mate
Sorry but fishing for fun is cruel !!
All the fishing wardens out you soft boys id catch more fish on a stick that man enjoys hes sport
You got that right!
I agree with the comment about using a disgorger or forceps. The trout could easily have been damaged with a finger down its gullet.
Buy disgorger or some artery forceps - handling a fish in that way gives a very bad impression of our sport. Was that Trout out of season - the colours and background scene suggest that.
Civilian always one job worth sort of idiot to vote Labour
Why say your returning trout and you don't muppet
Hi Darren i did return the fish when it had recovered,i have found with game fish if you put them straight back they tend to struggle.
Thats quite inspiring, many would overlook a small stream like that. Great vid
Thank you Simon,a mile further up the stream some deep holes have seen brown trout over 3lbs caught!
@wesleyshrubsole3531 wow, everything in perspective, that's really good size for a small stream, satisfying way to catch!
@@simonspeedo8122 Too right Simon a true monster from a little stream!
ima try fishing in a stream on saturday
Hi Simon hope you get a few mate tight lines!
That takes me back to my childhood fishing the little streams at the back of Kearsney Abbey with freelined worm. Never ceases to amaze me how incredible brown trout look. Great stuff mate.
They are stunning mate, shows just how little water or room they need to thrive.
I would have a go with the drop shot right alongside those platforms, I can imagine a few perch using them as ambush points. Nice video as always Wesley cheers mate.
Thanks Ian we will crack it for sure.
@wesleyshrubsole3531 It just seems almost tailored for perch although I had loads of little jacks at aldergate whenever I tried it, didn't land many of them unsurprisingly.
@@IAN-DIXON.. Toothy little buggers lol
@wesleyshrubsole3531 They have some sort of anti coagulant in their teeth which I can testify too on numerous occasions with the small jacks. Big Pike are easy to handle but those little buggers get me regularly lol.
Yea that trout must have had also, little bugger bled me well! Lol
I have been fairly unsuccessful at drop shotting but in ny mind it should be really productive, so i keep persevering with it in the hope of a big perch.
Hi Ian yes it is only my second try but like you i think it should work well
@wesleyshrubsole3531 depth and size/colour or lure is what I think are key points but I'm guessing really lol. It should be perfect for twitching in the edge at Aldergate for perch.
A great feeling catching fish I'm going again tomorrow 😅
Hi Joseph have a good session mate.
Lots of species of leaves in the net mate 😅 Good angling and video as always mate and a nice haul of leaves too. 😊
Plenty of them about Ian,went squidding and my mate had one i thought i had a great video but had forgot to put the sd card in the camera! Wot a plonker
@wesleyshrubsole3531 oh no. I was wondering why you didn't post a vid on the squid.
Never was the brightest firework in the box! Lol
@wesleyshrubsole3531 Your OK Wesley.
Bad monkey sick lol
All the little bits of corn wafting about just seems to get them going. Squid and cuttlefish are like creatures from another planet. They are amazing when all the colours are being activated.
Yes as they come out of the water they are truly one of gods creations.
Not used the old monkey sick for a while now. Nice video as always Wesley.
Cheers mate operation squid tonight!
@wesleyshrubsole3531 sounds exotic lol.
probably blank but worth a go
Well done Mr Cain
Good angler on silvers,he loves river fishing
@wesleyshrubsole3531 All you old codgers are good anglers mate.
Think how good we could be if we could see the float! Lol
@wesleyshrubsole3531 You need fish lens glasses lol.
Alan was the only man i knew who would moan about a peg in the knuckle of the breakwater and then thrash everyone lol.
Some things never change Ian
Yes I'm now free to comment, like a starmer sausage 😊 Nice video Wesley.
Thanks mate
Better luck next time Wes😂
Cheers Joseph
I had 4 nice Carp yesterday, and hardly any silvers like last week. I think this bloody big cormmorant has eaten them all lol
Yes mate they are a real problem,it hurts when you see them taking all the fish.
Very envious of you in your club😂😂🎉
Hi Joseph i am very lucky mate that they are a great crowd and fishing is not half bad!
They are all very good anglers.
Yep worse luck! Lol
