    yo! I’m having a strange issue with my 1998 iMac G3. It works without any problems initially, but when it’s left on for a long time, a weird bug occurs that’s difficult to pinpoint. After being on for an extended period, my iMac G3 simply goes into a black screen mode if there’s any change in video resolution. Additionally, when I turn it off and try to turn it back on, the power LED stays green, never turning off, and the machine doesn’t power back on. The same happens during a reboot; instead of the LED turning yellow and then green, it doesn’t return from the reboot. Even with the startup chime playing, the screen remains black. The only solution is to unplug it and plug it back in. After being unplugged for a while, it returns to normal, but the bug reappears if it’s left on for several hours, typically two or more. I’m not sure if this is an issue with the mainboard, power supply, or analog board. I’ve already recapped 100% of the capacitors, and while the bug used to be permanent, it’s now intermittent. At first, I thought the recap had solved the problem since I only used the iMac for a short time, but when I use it for longer periods, the bug always comes back. It only stabilizes if it’s unplugged for at least 10 hours. Any attempt to turn it back on after the bug appears is futile. Do you recommend checking any specific chip or shutdown signal? Thanks for the help. Oh, I forgot to mention, only the electrolytic capacitors were replaced during the recap.

      sounds like that you might have an issue with your PSU, but before you go to the extreme, have you replaced your pram Battery? i know some imac g3 don't behave well if they have a dead or dying pram battery

      @@imac7531 thanks for reply! Yes, I replaced the motherboard battery. I noticed that a transformer in the power supply is getting very hot, above 120 degrees, and I’m not sure if that’s normal. I thought about replacing the horizontal IC, but I don’t have the schematic for this computer. If you think of any other ideas, please let me know.

      @@RaphaelBastosakaCoffnix i don't have a schematic sadly enough and i wish i did, i would love to share that info if i did, but 120 deg is very hot. i can see that interfering with the hardware. you could replace the component if you can fix it yourself or get a working one on ebay. i do have a few around here. But 120 Deg C? i can see that being an issue.

    Great videos and subscribed to your tube, just recently serviced my Mac Pro 5.1 (mid-2012) dual core as well. Besides a good pasting job on the CPU heatsinks, I really highly recommend Macs Fan Control by Crystal Idea, used it on Mac Pro 3.1 (2008) and onwards because a cool Mac is a very happy Mac. Any reason why you're not utilising the slots 1-2-3 + 5-6-7 triple channel memory speed feature? My worst nightmare is changing the CR2023, never dared to change it - serving my Mac Pro for 10 years atm - reading the horrors braking the clip. What's your best practice to change it? Would love to see a shorts about that. Thanks in advance.

    • @imac7531
      @imac7531 Год назад

      When it comes to the part number? it all varies on which brand you have. like LG, IBM, Samsung and HP. at the back of your LCD screen, you should see a big sticker like Samsung, the part number should be like "LT121SU-23" and LG ", "LP121SA" just an idea for you to look for when you take your screen off the Ibook. When it comes to buy? i would look on a used Apple parts website as there is a few out there, Ebay, Picclick, or if you are lucky, knowing the right person that collects them in your neighbourhood. Parts are getting harder to get lately, so if you can get a Part machine with a good working screen? it would be the best alternative. Even I am having a bit of a hard time getting some. ;) Hope this helps

    Its in mint condition because the seller is like me and couldn't use it ever. I have had this laptop since release and the chargers fried 3-4 times, the motherboard was replaced under warranty 2 times because of graphics issues and the 1070 inside has not worked longer than a month so I was usually stuck using the shitty integrated graphics. Here I am years later knowing this should still be a decent laptop trying once last time to fix it. at this point I'm certain this version simply had some bad parts around that time. The Dell website even vaguely references that without actually admitting it. Very unfortunate and still feel ripped off. As for the install I forget exact what I had to do when I installed windows. I didn't have the black screen problem but It did require a lot of random troubleshooting to get it to work. I think what solved it was unplugging all the hard drives except the one I was installing windows on. This whole system is very buggy with a lot of unexplained issues. Once its set up if you don't care about the graphics not working than it runs fine for regular use but I don't need a 20 pound laptop for browsing the web...

    Hi, I was gifted one of these by my uncle, used to be connected to his powermac Cube, I'm on a small project to convert it to VGA+USB+power instead of the normal ADC, there are several projects like this that were well succeeded , the problem is, after conecting everuthing, the USB works, Computer recognizes it as Studio Display, but no image is shown. I would like to know, if it's not too much trouble of course, if you have any knowledge on how they power up, I don't know if it is a signal problem, or if it is one large capacitor that is a little brown en slight bent at the top, it's the large capacitor just at the side of the usb ports, behind the small metal barrier

    • @imac7531
      @imac7531 2 года назад

      i just hope this will help you, any Capacitor(s) that are bulging is for the lack of a better word "Failing" as it is no longer holding it's charge as it was meant to be. due to the age of the screen, those capacitors are known to fail. My best bet "in my experience" i would replace the bad capacitor(s) bad capacitor could cause the symptom that you are experiencing. Those CRT monitor don't actually have a 120 Volt plugged into the monitor as you know as it is powered by the graphics card so i will assume that the Cap you see that looks damaged might cause the issue for your CRT not working as it should. and the fact that the crt is not powered by a 120 volt? would be sensitive to any bad capacitor(s) or any other component that are failing or leaking.

      very nice. i do have a few 600 around as i thought about upgrading that ruby into a 600mhz, but i think that would of been too much for it. those logic board will be saved for my next projects. :)

    How did you take the stand off?

      you have rotate them a little as they have kind of a groove. kind of hard to explain, i'll see if i can make a short video of it, but you have to flip the screen over of course, then rotate the base to match those little clip then pull it out. easier to do then saying it. there is also a big white O-ring it will come out once the base is off

    Hello Sir. Don't know if this is the right place to ask you some advices about old Apple products but if i dont try will never know :). So i have an old 17 inch Imac G4 with ethernet problem since a storm. Everything works fine but cant have internet connection with the cable. So i swapped the modem from an 15" (also 800ghz imac g4) and tried the 17" modem on the 15" and it was good. So i thought maybe is the connector of the ethernet jack who was broken so i swapped him also and try it but still the same problem. So i think is maybe the motherboard modem connector is faulty? So my question is can i swap the entire motherboard from an Imac G4 15" to the 17"(first gen). They both are 800ghz. Thanks in advance. ps. sorry for my english im from France :). Best regards

      First, are you talking about the imac "Flat screen panel" or the Sunflower "with the neck that swivel"? iMac sunflower, you can swap motherboard from one machine to another without any problem, just make sure that the data port for your video signal is the same. if you are talking about the Flat screen panel "all in one" i wouldn't recommend swapping the logic board. But i will try this first before doing anything else. have you replaced the modem cable? might of been pinched or damaged. you did say swapped the modem from one machine to the next and the problem was still there. do you have a spare one around that you could perhaps test? is any of your cable behind a router or a switches? perhaps one of them could be bad if after replacing the cable and the modem "router" and you still have issues with that machine? i am afraid that the ethernet port might of been damaged by the storm. if you are comfortable with replacing the logic board, you could try to find another machine similar to the one you have and swap the board

      @@imac7531 First, thank you for your advices. So im talking about the Imac Sunflower model. So i already swapped the modem and the cable from another Sunflower (whitch is 100% fonctionnal) and still dont work, so i guess is the modem/motherboard connection whitch is bad. So, the motherboard from the 15inch and the 17inch are identical, same data port, so will swap them. I was afraid to do this without knowing if this can destroy the machine... Thanks for your answer.

      @@keomarty3863 Awesome for the iMac G4 sunflower. in that case, you should be ok on replacing the Logic board. they are pretty easy to swap around. just make sure that your video signal port are identical. i know in some of the ibook g3 data port are different, so make sure that they are all identical. Good luck and keep me posted. :D my next project is actually the imac Sunflower G4. i have no power on it and will be replacing the power supply on it. Hoping it is the power supply. =)
