@ 3:40 you talking where the lakes drain. The Harris chain flows north and lake griffin is the head water. Flows north through the Ocklawaha to the St John's. Harris also receives water fron the Clermont Chain via the Palatlakaha River. Great video!
Thanks for the tip. We will be fishing on the Harris Chain this weekend!
@MattCaldwellFishing I'll be out there myself, if you see a silver/maroon/black older model Nitro, holler at me! Tight lines
matty, what is the app on your phone that you cull the fish with?
It’s the Connect Scale app. The app is a little wonky, but it does the job. Once the scale stops working, I plan on upgrading to the bubba scale. I hear it’s a lot better.
Hi Matt, have you done any Bass fishing on the old town yak lately ?
I haven’t unfortunately. I’d like to get out there for spawn season.
Matt do you find the pedal drive option easy to do and bass fish. Compared to a trolling motor. I'm leaning towards a pedal drive kayak. Trying to get away from all the battery hand controlled stuff.
It does work great. The downside is in heavy grass. Trolling motor would be an advantage for long runs.
Are you glad you added the power pole to your yak. Any issues with it.
To be honest it was kind of a waste of money. I dont use it that much. It's only useful in less than 6 feet. I'd rather have a trolling motor with spot lock.
Sub'd
"Matty Ice" who the hell calls themselves that??... lmao... you're the very definition of a tool! lol. And pretty much every single video y'all are gut hookin fish! WTF man? Learn what a bite feels like and learn when to set the hook for fuck sake. There's a reason this channel will never take off... because y'all set the example of what NOT to be as tournament anglers.
Great Video. Check your engine oil tank. I ran into the same problem also. It was the oil tank on the engine. I had to replace it with a OMC Oil Tank.
Thanks for the tip, good looking out!
Hey David, appreciate that input. It's at the shop but I'll certainly have them check that. Now that I've experienced this, I'll now what to look for. Thanks!
I hope it is an easy fix. Good luck and Good Luck Fishing.
Merc 2 stroke strikes again
Great job guys. Sorry you didnt get to fish day 2
Yeah, we were bummed. The Big O is so unpredictable.
How was the water level, on the higher side?
It seemed normal to me, nothing crazy.
June is a great Bass Lake! Not pressured as much due to the depth plus all the grass was sprayed into oblivion years ago. But offshore there are some bigguns.
For sure, just started to figure it out. Can’t wait to build on it for next time.
Watched your old video on the Daiwa zillion I got a question people are telling me that lures 3/4 oz and up are not good for the reel and my Daiwa zillion comes in tomorrow
I don’t think that’s true. John Crews uses mostly zillions. I don’t think you’ll have problem with it. Thanks for the comment.
We've done good there the last two tournaments we fished. 2 yrs ago we had 14.8 with big fish of 9.6lbs and then last year we finished 2nd with 12.4 and big fish of 5.2 that lake has always been good to us.
That’s pretty good. As seen in the video, we caught good numbers of fish, just not any big ones.
Good video, and one of my favorite lakes, I’ve caught a 9 3/4 from there a few years ago.
Good to know. I wish we would have caught some bigger fish.
@@MattCaldwellFishingevery trip’s a learning experience, that last stretch y’all were on is a good one
Definitely remember for next time!@@bryanhoward1795
I actually pulled up this day and turned tail to placid with the 40 trailers in bishop park
I believe there was a tournament there during our practice day.
Love lake june fish it at least 3 times a week. Some great fishing
You gotta give us some tips then.
Nice fish, Love Walsingham. I’m there almost everyday, love it, enjoyed your video, keep filming man.
Thanks for the comment. Check out some of my other videos. There has been a slight pause in the content as you can imagine. New videos coming soon.
what's the best way to fish deep? I struggle away from the bank
It’s a technique I’m learning as well. Find a good contour line or some cover on the bottom with your electronics & drag a worm, Carolina rig or jig. Drop shot can work as well.
Matty ICE!
Whoooo!
@@MattCaldwellFishing Watermelon red is my favorite as well. I throw flukes instead. Joined a Kayak Club up here have won a couple tournament and big bass a few time. Unfortunetly i literally throw one bait.
That's how it goes sometimes. I'd like to throw something other than worms, but that's what gets bit.
Awwwe, a couple guys don't have their stern lights up!
lol good catch!
Great video! I just moved to a neighborhood on lake parker (northwest section, across from the hospital) my lil nephew caught a toad of a bowfin yesterday, (we released) my 2 questions are what catches bass here? We've been having trouble. #2 is, are there crawfish in here and would u recommend eating em? Thanx friend. Tight lines!
Thanks for the comment. To be honest, I’m not that familiar with Lake Parker. Only fished it a couple of times. In my opinion, summer is the toughest time to catch bass. Soft plastics is your best bet. Finesse worms, senkos, and some type of flipping bait, should get you started. As far as craws, I’m sure there in there, but I don’t know anything about eating them.
Looked like a tough hot day fellas
It sure was, thanks for the comment.
You bet
What year was this reel released? I’m looking for the 2024
I’m not sure when this reel was released, but it is the current model in production.
Hello sir, have you been out Bass fishing on your Old Town pdl ?
It’s been a while since the last time I took the kayak out. It’s too hot for me in the FL summertime. I prefer the cooler weather, especially spawn time. You can really sneak up on the bass.
buyer beware. Trying to get in contact with st croix to honor a warranty defect is impossible. I submitted my warranty claim August 3, 2024. after waiting 17 days i never heard from them. tried emailing and calling several times and they don't respond or call back. it has now been 23 days and no response. The warranty is on a Legend Extreme, the handle came loose in only a few months.
That sucks to hear. I guess everyone has different experiences. I have had nothing but good experiences.
I have not seen any swim jigs tied on. If you want bigger fish, use a swim jig for a better average size. Good job guys, I just saw you used a spinner bait. Nice job.
Thanks for the comment. We did throw swim jigs in practice, unfortunately no bites.
Seeing how many of my spots you hit and the lakes you fish. I see you found the two spots in Spring and a good spot on Mirror. I see you also hit Shipp and Roy as well in practice and during the tournament. Roy does not produce giants. Summit on the other hand and Winterset is another. Great job though. I was fishing the Chain that same weekend.
Thanks for the comment. Summertime fishing has always been a struggle for us so trying find them has been the focus.
@@MattCaldwellFishing I would give you a few spots but I might be fishing against you and Dale, So I might want to hold onto those spots a bit longer. But if you watch any of my videos, they are mostly from the South Chain of Lakes and you might recognize a spot or two for the next time..
Thanks again, I’ll certainly take a look.@@fishinganddishingwithdavid
very shocked that you don't have 10,000 followers, excellent videos
Share the word and we’ll get there!
You guys crack me up,” where is he, not in the net .” I was rolling thank you for sharing your day on the lake I love to see team tournament action appreciate the content! What are the reasons you wouldn’t have a dead fish line that so sorry?😢 Tight lines take care and God bless!
Thanks for the comment. Yeah sometimes they swallow the bait and get gut hooked. We do our best to keep them alive.
Where are you launching at
Southport Boat ramp
@@MattCaldwellFishing is the hydrilla out of control on toho . We have a trailer at the old reds fish camp , haven’t been down this year yet.
Yeah it’s pretty thick on Toho, but that’s where the fish are.
Awesome unboxing man. Ive been on a JDM buying spree lately myself, and when the deals are in its impossible to not buy more lol. And yeah those Nories baits are a whole nother level of foul smelling
Thanks for the comment. I plan on tying on the glide & the flip gill this weekend.
Japanese stuff seems like it’s just a bit different. Do you have a preference or go to and is it seasonal?
No preference, if it catches fish, I’ll buy it again. If not at least I tried it.
Great video! Heading down to the Chain from MI to visit family in a week. Staying on Lk Shipp. Any advice to catch some fish would help! Thanks!
Thanks for the comment. Summer fishing can be tough with temperatures approaching 100 degrees. Get on the water early, first light to get on that morning bite. After that your best bet is to look for offshore grass & brush piles once the sun is up & starts to get hot.
Does it cost for shipping or anything?
No extra shipping costs.
@@MattCaldwellFishing wow I just watched a bunch of other videos a host of different guys had to pay 50 or 60 dollars to replace 100 dollar rods I just had a first my little panfish broke on a big crappie so I’ve been watching videos lol I found a couple like this one but others were unhappy lol guess I’ll find out . And thx
It seems st croix rods break fairly often...it took 3 years for my friend to get his bass x rod replaced.
I might be making a part 2 to this video. I just broke my Mojo Bass Frog rod last week. I’ve had it for 10 years. First St Croix I’ve actually broken myself. So I’ll talk about my experience the 2nd time around. Stay tuned to the channel for that one.
good video, but please drop the background music
Thanks for the comment
Way to go Matty!
Thanks buddy!
Matt thanks for sharing your review on this reel that’s a pretty nice one love to grab me one of those and I’ll check out your sponsor makes some nice baits. Tight lines sir.
Thanks, and tight lines for sure!
I have a couple of Zillions. I mainly use them for winding baits, like crankbaits and Chatterbaits. Great reels, very smooth!
That’s what made me want to buy one when you showed me yours. I was very impressed.
New mic?
Had it since the new year
I recently had to pay $50 to have my Triumph replaced with the St. Croix warranty… you didn’t mention having to pay any money with your replacement
I did not pay anything to have my rod replaced. I believe the victory series is a higher tier warranty than your triumph.
when I filled out the warranty form there was no payment option. Do I wait for an email from them and then pay?
@@mr.cleanmclean7231 They sent me an email with a service phone number to call
@@MattCaldwellFishing thank you very much…how long did it take for I to receive an email after submitting the warranty form. I’ve been waiting for almost two weeks for a response from st croix
Thank you…How long did it take for u to receive an email after submitting the warranty form. I’ve been waiting for about two weeks now
I've ordered a shimano stella 22 from digitaka. You do save some money but kinda spend the savings on shipping. I think my shipping was like $60
A lot of their reels are free shipping.
@@MattCaldwellFishingwas about to say this lol
Good video, I usually buy most of my JDM product from The Hook UP Tackel. I will be looking into Digitaka sight..
I have also ordered from hook up tackle. I like their selection but their prices are a little on the high side.
Which canal are y’all fishing in? Never been up to the winter haven chain
They’re in Lake May.
@@MattCaldwellFishing thank you!
Hey Matt, great video, new subscriber ! that Digitaka site looks good. I typically buy from TW & discount tackle, but I'm gonna check that out !! I've been bass fishing for 40 years (I'm 63) I've always bought budget gear due to money restraints, as of the last 5 years or so, I've stepped up to mid-priced gear. Wow what a difference in quality, weight, sensitivity, etc... I have several Tatula reels (SV TW 103, CT-100, & TW-80), an Alphas 800-S, & a Salamandura SV TW 70) my rods are Lamiglas XP Bass, St Croix Mojo Bass, Fenwick Elite Bass & Techna PX. I have been eyeballing that Zillion SV TW for some time now... does it have the drag alarm clicker ?? thanks & I will be following for the water test !!
Scott, thanks for the comment and the subscription. Yes it does have the drag clicker. I forgot to mention it.
Where you dropping in when I was taking my skiff out the other day? Nice Yak!
It’s possible, I was there on Saturday. There was only a few boats on the water that day.
Is this in Pinellas county?
Yes in Safety Harbor
I can't believe your actually catching fish out of this lake, I used to fish it regularly but the last few years I seemed to have notice my catches dropping off substantially. I seems every time I go there it looks like they just got done spraying it especially in the spring time. The last 3 times i fished it I swore it would be my last but it is close to home and easy to launch and free. You live on this side of the bay?
I live in st Pete, 10 min drive for me.
What size weight do you normally use for this rig
I’ve been using 3/16 however it’s all personal preference.
You can set the weight according to the power of the rod you use, but you have to adjust the size of the plastic luer by referring to the casting resistance
Well said
Nice production vibe in your video. However, I'm not sure I see a big difference in this and a Texas rig. I would assume the action is similar. I guess the cylinder weight might fall a touch faster, but I think the bullet weight would move better through vegetation. Am I missing something on differences? Is there a difference in lure action between the two?
There is a difference in action, more on the finesse side. Believe it or not just as weedless as a bullet weight.
