What is a slipped disc?
Below is the link to the blog post which explains the different types of disc injury a person can have.
Disc injuries can be very complicated so if you think you have one then please do find a good chiropractor and have a thorough assessment. This is the best way to establish what type of injury you have and the best management program to help you rehabilitate your injury.
Please DON'T google the best exercises to do if you have a "slipped disc" as they are often inappropriate and may make your injury worse.

Back pain? The correct way to use a back stretcher for lower back pain

Hi Everyone, this is just a little video explaining about the importance of maintaining a neutral spine where possible and how to best use a back stretcher for a gentle decompression treatment at home. I recommend about 10-15 minutes a night on one one of these if you are a low back pain sufferer. They are really great when used correctly! Super cheap to buy on Amazon. you can purchase this par...

    • @chirogen1954
      @chirogen1954 3 месяца назад

      The stretcher is something that I would advise specifically if you have a lumbar disc herniating. If your back pain is due to something else or thoracic pain then my advice would be to see a chiropractor for an assessment and specific advice for yourself.

    I stepped off the pavement on some random day 4 years ago and I've been in pain ever since. Sometimes it's so bad I'm completely bedridden barely even able to clothe myself or go to the toilet. The pain is on the level of a gunshot. Ever since I found a soft bed was aggravating it I've been just barely functional but in pain every day. It has destroyed my health and I'm only in my 30s. West Midlands here too. I only found this video after randomly buying this back stretcher on Amazon. I will watch and rewatch this video with my stretcher. If you can suggest any resources or guides I'd be eternally grateful. Hope this stretcher helps!

    7:08 doesn't that count as a reverse sit up? What difference does it make if the back stretcher is under you or not?

    • @chirogen1954
      @chirogen1954 3 месяца назад

      You will find it difficult to line the stretcher up with the appropriate segment by doing a reverse sit up and the point that I am trying to make is that people with disc herniations often find situps or reverse sit ups to be aggravating factors for their back pain. I don’t have a disc herniation or back pain and am just demonstrating an alternative method to line up the stretcher correctly for those that do. However you find it comfortable getting onto your back without aggravating your pain is fine and then I would use the glute bridge method to line it up correctly. Hope that makes sense

      @@TheMiket0 unfortunately it isn’t going to be a cure all for all low back pain issues. If you are confident that you are using it correctly then it may just be that it is not the appropriate treatment for your particular back complaint. If you think it is making your back worse then I would definitely stop using it and see a chiropractor or osteopath for some treatment alternatives.

    Your back stretcher appears in a semi-oval shape, but mine is closer to like a semi-heart where the incline on one side is steeper than the other. I'm not sure which direction the stretcher should be put in when in use?

    • @chirogen1954
      @chirogen1954 4 месяца назад

      I’ve not seen or used what you describe so I couldn’t really advise other than to say that the stretcher should feel like it is targeting the right area and you should feel better after. If it here is pain or it makes it worse then try switching it around.

      @@chirogen1954 I noticed that the back stretcher in your video is adjustable where you can move on side closer to the center. I think it would look like you had taken one side of yours and brought it closer to the center.

    Great Video, thanks for this. My Physiotherapist has called out my poor posture., after years of working with computers and sat at desk. She mentioned about about some stretches I. could do which would help push my shoulders back. She did say about. using a roller, just below shoulder blades and lying on that for a few mins. However, I have one of these so could I use that with the peak going just underneath my shoulder blades? Do it work that high up? Thanks in advance.

      Hi Sheila, I recommend about 10-15 mins a day. As long as you position the peak of the stretcher at the level of the segments you want to treat you can use this for upper and lower lumbar disc problems. So in your case you would have the peak of the arch at the highest point of your lumbar spine

    • @chirogen1954

      Height isn't a major factor really because you position It at the appropriate segment that you require traction. The body of L4 is approximately in line with the crest of the pelvis for reference. So if you know what level you are wanting to stretch then hopefully that will help.
