Best freshman year of my life. Even though I was in this show three years ago, I still remember every detail about it to this day. I will remember that feeling when we won for the rest of my life.
I've never understood why BOA and DCI decided to have their FINALS competitions for an OUTDOOR activity inside an enclosed stadium. TOO much reverb. It sounds like shit in there.
HS Marching Bands have certainly changed (not all of course) since I was in Marching Band....way back then lol. I remember a time competing vs BA, and other OK Marching Bands, and beating them. Unfortunately there were no OBA or National Finals back then. This show was outstanding but, I'm old school and traditional lol. I was in Marching Band so long ago that, little ole Okmulgee High School had a 235 member Band lol. So, so long ago 😢.
I went to this school! This was my junior year, the whole school was proud of everyone involved. They got the highest score ever achieved in a national tournament, with a score of 99. Super cool to think about all friends I had who were in that, all great people. The band was very stressful though, and joining it basically became your life for 4 years(Most people join when they are freshmen, since they start giving tryouts in 8th grade).
Someone please explain to me in detail what it takes to train brass musicians to push such efficient amounts of air through the instrument and to maintain stamina throughout a demanding performance like this? The dynamics seem to be rising and falling at the same rate among each player, intonation is so so good, tone quality of course, phrasing ending together, etc.
now, i dont even come from a program CLOSE to how great they are but it takes hours and hours a day and every day of the week, along with constant repetition to nail parts. as for specifically the dynamics etc they probably work REALLY hard on breathing control and cutoffs. also i believe that it was also the fact that each and every performer wanted to do their best (i cant say the same for our program) and so in that desire, they achieved.
BA 2021 was great. Avon and Carmel were good but Hebron 21 was special iMO. Since BOA doesn’t judge guards Visually I give it hands down to Broken Arrow but that music demand and execution from Hebron would have taken GE. This was by far my most favorite show that BA ever has fielded.
people need to stop arguing over placements anyways. Many programs had such amazing shows that year and insulting or bringing down members from one or another program only ruins their experience when they witness it. I wish people would realize that. It's an issue on both sides

I am an old dinosaur (52). I recall my marching band days with great fondness. In fact, as a "nerd" back when I was a kid, I found school very difficult. I was picked on and bullied, but in marching band and music, I found a home. I found a family. Outside of the band hall the world was awful but in those walls and on that field I was SOMEBODY. I don't profess to know diddly squat about guard but this guard REALLY impresses me. I mean in this fixed high camera position they are really selling their choreography. Body lines and shapes read very clearly from beginning to end and teh equipment work is clean as a whistle.
If we had the funding Hebron and other Texas bands had all through out middle school and high school we’d be even better, but I don’t complain about it
@@kv46 I've also lost grand nationals before. I've lost a regional before as well. Instead of complaining I cheered for them and still enjoyed my season for what it was. Marching band isn't about winning. Too many people talk about who should have won what... believe me, in the end, nobody outside of marching band is going to care who won anything when you're out in the real world. Enjoy marching band while you're in it, but stop judging how "good" a band is based on scores. Scores can fluctuate with judges and no band is ever the same between years either. What really defines a "good" band is how much effort they put into improving over the course of the year. Even if it's not top end material, any band who has worked hard deserves to be recognized regardless of placement. In the end, a score is just a number that doesn't define you, your organization, or anything. It's just a one time number.
