Welcome to my channel. This is a senior/snowbird lifestyle and travel channel. I am a retired senior lady (Shelley) with a weinerdog - dachshund - furbaby (Penny) and we are planning to spend our winters in Mexico. I will share travel tips, retirement tips, snowbird tips, travelling with a pet tips, restaurant and business reviews, places to stay, things to do and general interest topics for retired people and people who love to travel. I will also share some tips on learning to speak a bit of spanish for survival in a spanish-speaking country with maybe a bit of Mexican cuisine throw in. I'll also share a little bit about my home country (Canada) and what I do here in the summer.

Any tax implications with living in Mexico part time (less than 183 days)? Or is it status quo?
There are no tax implications living in México as long as you are not earning any money there. In Ontario, we are allowed to be out of the country for that length of time without it affecting our healthcare coverage when we are back home.

good info thanks. what also helped me a lot was this travel app: ATM Fee Saver - it shows ATMs and their fees and limits for over 50 countires. super super useful for travelling

Hi Shelley! I am from Canada and no longer have a Canadian number. My bank emails me verification codes, my credit card accepts my Mexican number, CRA has another system. On occasion when booking flights with WestJet they have a third party verification, my bank bypasses this as long as I book from 8am to 8pm and can call them when I get to the payment verification code. Good luck!
I live in the port/beach side and my neighbours are "locals"...we have the ice cream guy, the gas truck, the fruit & veggie truck, taco stands, tamale, etc. etc. only difference is we have the beach within walking distance which makes it more expensive to rent or buy on this side. La Colonia is just another district of Puerto Morelos and both areas can be enjoyed by tourists and locals. I love visiting and eating in La Colonia and tourists and locals also make their way to port side and enjoy the beach and restaurants especially on weekends. Port/beach side has been considered "touristy" because of the close proximity to the beach and for short term visitors it's definitely an excellent option. We also have an outdoor market every Wed. next to the church where you can buy fresh fruits & vegetables, cheese, breads, other assorted food products and artisan jewelry and crafts. Both sides are unique and have their own vibe. Very informative video! Great job!

I would like to visit the zoo. How did you get there? Did you pay for a taxi? Or you can use the colectivo?
We paid for a taxi. I didn't feel safe to take the colectivo because we would have to cross the highway to come back to Puerto Morelos. I like the zoo and I usually try to go every year. Thank you for watching!!!

I had watched your video about buying all that stuff to make your AB&B more homey. I was surprised that you were willing to pay $600 a year to store that stuff. But now you said you sold a bunch of it. Can you tell us what things you felt you could do without and what you sold?
Thank you for the great question! I ended up selling my big screen TV (it was more of a thing for my former partner) as I really don't watch TV much. I sold my three-wheeled bike and 2 gravity lounge chairs. The second year I was able to store some things with a friend as well at my Airbnb since I was returning this year. A lot of the kitchen things I bought, I just left at the Airbnb for their use over the summer. I also took home some clothes and things that really weren't necessary in México. I brought too many t-shirts (I mostly wear tank tops here), capri pants and heavier things I just don't use here. Thank you for watching!!!

"We" were a Canadian couple that wintered in Puerto Morelos, México. My first year in México, when this video was posted, I was with a partner and that is the "we" I am referring to. Now the "we" is me and my little dog. Hope that clarifies it for you. Thanks for watching.

Welcome back. Great video! Amazing organization to spay & neuter! Our 6 weeks are up and we are leaving back to Canada today but will be back in January for another 10 weeks. Maybe see you then. Sorry to hear that, last year I was walking my small dog at la colonial park,and he suddenly got bit by another dog,we took him to the veterinarian over Playa del Carmen and sadly they cut half of his ear,(they try a special glue but didn’t work)my wife and I were devastated,many dog owners don’t care about their dogs,from now on, I walk with a bat and a knife, I know is extreme, I won’t let another dog harm my puppy, saludos to Penny
I am so sorry to hear about your pup 😥 I have found that most people are responsible pet owners but it only takes one to ruin it for all. We were very lucky and she is fine, but truthfully, I have to coax her to go for walks now. Stay diligent, whatever it takes to keep your furbaby safe ❤ Thank you for watching!!!
