Is this landing gear made of titanium or aluminum alloy?
I assume you know by now but just incase you don't, the crotch strap is supposed to go on the top buckle with the shoulder straps. Be safe.
Thanks, someone told me about it when I posted the video
I can drive to Van's in less than 10 minutes. It's nice having the headquarters nearby.
Biggest difference between RV-7 and RV-14, which is the best?
I didn't fly on the 14, but I sat inside... The cockpit is more roomy
It would be interesting to know how much an assembled wing weighs (without and with skin)
If I remember correctly it was around 80 kg before the skin
Wikipedia says the empty weight of the DR-107 is 740 pounds (336 kg). What made your plane much heavier - 940 lb (427 kg)?
That was the prototype weight, Today aft 2 years the airplane is flying I would do many things differently such as install aluminum ailerons, fabricating the aluminum skin from 0.024 instead 0.035, lithium battery, lighter fuel tanks etc... It can save about 30-40 kg I also have a smoke system which the prototype doesn't have
So, you spent 3 years building this plane. Do you think you would do it faster if you did it again?
Yes absolutely, a lot of time spent on making tools, planning, waiting for parts and mistakes. Now we have the tools and knowledge so we can be very efficient
Very nice! I can only dream. What motor do you have in it? O-360 ?
Thank you! Yes it's IO360
Pretty dam cool 👍
Thank you!
I really enjoy your videos. I am thinking of building an aerobatic airplane in the future and these videos help me to have an idea of the efforts it take to build one.
Thank you! This is exactly the reason why I made these videos 💪 I'm very happy that it helps 😀
Come and fly my one 😜😜
If I'm coming, I want to fly on all of your collection 😁
Yep they really are that good roy. I used to compete in an Rv6. Put all the bagfage in fly 3 hours to a comp. Get there throw out the bage and do 3 practice flights. Refuel the next day. It won sportsman nationsls in australia a few times. Only thing it wasnt good for was flicks.
100% agreed, this is a great airplane!
Tell me more! I just got an RV6A. Would love to pick your brain and have your thoughts on it. I’ve got a IO320 fixed pitch with a whirlwind prop.
Whats it for.. might be nice on a rc plane !!! ?
Trim tab allows the pilot to reduce the stick pressure during long climb or descent - in this case the trim tab isn't moving against the elevator. Trim servo tab, in addition to the benefit of the above, the movement against the elevator is basically aerodynamic power steering which makes the stick to be lighter on the pitch RC planes doesn't need this - the servo actuator doesn't get tired and it more simpler to put strong servo than trim tab system
@@RoyBenAnat cool. Thanks roy.

Great as always 👌
Thank you very much 🙂
Dude this is awesome
Thanks bro!
For getting roll trim figured out, first remove the spade plates completely so you know whether there's actually a rigging problem. Once it flies level without spades, then add them back in and then you can shim to take out any asymmetry in the angles. I agree the tail landing wires appear loose to me. in my experience, lack of fairings on the root of the landing gear can create a band of turbulence that travels down the left side of the fuselage and hits precisely where the horizontal stab leading edge is. Suggest you tuft it with a friend flying formation once you have the basic rigging solved.
Great stuff!
These comments are totally spot on. We removed our spades and did multiple flights, sticking “d seal” to the ailerons to jig the roll out. Then added back on the spades, then used washers to shim the roll out again. Then we tipped the front of the spades down in thin washer increments to increase the centering. It took about 20 short flights to get it sorted.
@@tasesq we did the first flights without the spades, than tuned a bit the aileron that really wasn't leveled than we fine tune with thin shim at the spades. I haven't said that on the video for 2 reasons 1. It will make it extremely longer 2. I'm not an English speaker and didn't know how to explain it properly 😅
@@RoyBenAnat I was amazed how heavy she is without the spades.
@@tasesq absolutely
Great!!!!!!!you have made an incredible work...respect to you!!!!!! and now....enjoy!!!!!!!
Thanks bro! :)
Nice. Won't the shaking of the vertical stabilizer, as seen around 3:42, pose an issue?
Thanks for the note, I saw that at the early stages of the test flight, aft few checks we found that the shakes coming from a small freedom on the gopro's 2 legs
@@RoyBenAnat Are you sure it's only the camera shaking? If the camera was moving, shouldn't the entire image in the video be moving, and not just the vertical stabilizer? But the rest of the plane remains stable, just the vertical stab shaking, even more around 3:49. To me that looks like flutter...
@@rc-fannl7364 Yeah bro, we've checked this with deferent camera the tail is solid although it might has a bit of flexibility (there is interesting video about Super cub tail),.
@@RoyBenAnat Ok, if you''ve checked it all through and through, I suppose it's fine. Just not looking forward to seeing this plane and its pilot pop up in a "probable cause" video or so, seen too many of these lately.
@@rc-fannl7364 me neither bro! I appreciate your concern 👍
Good job!
Thank you!
What a build!
Thank you 🙂
Nice and Epic Bro.
Thanks mate!
The simplicity of it is very cool. I had a minimal race bike. Everything else felt/ looked silly.
Yeah, simple is reliable, also lighter ;)
omfg this has to be the STUPIDEST video title in the world… unboxing? a flipping airplane engine? 😂😂😂
Is there a build manual? Or only plans?
only plans, but there is very supportive community on facebook

Congrats, big milestone!
Thank you!

INCREDIBLE,, Congratulations…
Thank you! 🙂
Well done
Thanks mate!
Love your videos Roy. I just got my Double Ratchet Hooker as well for the biplane I'm building. Keep up the great work!
Thank you my friend! Enjoy your harness! Hooker are awesome 😎
How long did the build process take?
About 1000 man hours, since I wasn't alone, it took about 8 months
Did you use the fast West Systems epoxy? About to start with the wing ribs
Great progress
Thank you! 🙂
I look forward to hearing about how this works with the 1D
That prop looks beautiful with the clear coat carbon!
Thanks! 🙂
Is that a P-51D Replica ???
No, it's a DR-107 one design
If you don't mind, I would like to add a few pointers I've learned over time: Work on the canopy in a warm environment at least 75 Fahrenheit (25 C). A cold canopy will crack very easily, I had one crack just from handling it. In a bind, you can use a regular drill bit run in reverse (burns a hole instead of cutting a hole). I agree, the cut-off wheel is the best as it's more of a burning than cutting. Finally, sand all the edges round starting with 80, 120, 220 and final sanding with 320 and 400.
Sure! thank you for the important tips!
Did you leave a gap between canopy and turle deck for better ventilation? Don't think i've seen that on other planes. Also is using screws have a higher risk to get cracks compared to using glue?
I was planned to close this gap, but a friend who build 1D (the one in the comment below 🙂) actually told me that leaving it open is making better ventilation in the cockpit and since I'm living in hot country I took is tip, I'm making some aluminum panel for better look but it will stay open. The glue is naturally flexible so even if you're not familiar with the expension differences nothing will happen, but if you're using screws you just need to know that the hole in the canopy should be bigger than the screw size you're using and not tight them.
Doing a great job!
Thanks a lot my friend!
Good work man.
Thank you! 🙂
Congrats, looking good
Thank you! 🙂
Champ! Champ! As everything you do in this project, it is far away complicated than building an RV… good luck.
Thanks a lot my friend! 🙂
