I am a black 54 year old gay man and when I was a kid and teen in the 70s and 80s it was taboo to come out, It's still a challenge nowadays but it is easier. I can relate to several aspects of your story, crying yourself to sleep, feeling like you're going to hell, it's hard. I was a sailor-MS3 (Mess Specialist), now CS on the USS Bainbridge CGN 25 (now long gone). However, I was lucky on my ship the cooks didn't have to participate in the ships work rotation. I was not as lucky as you in port visits but did get to do a Med Cruise prior to departing active duty. Another thing you are lucky about is being Gay in today's military. I went at 83 after high school and it was still hostile in that "Don't Ask Don't Tell" existed and being found out meant discharge. I hope as time moves on you will cherish all you got to see and do in your youth!
