    I did 4 years in the Navy in 1976-1980. I used the GI bill to help pay for my college. The GI Bill would pay you up to a certain amount based on the number of credits you took. I went to a private college so the amount they gave me did not cover 100% tuition. Sometimes you need to make sacrifices yearly in life to help get started on the right foot. I had about $6K in student loans and worked a second job after college to pay off the loan faster. $6k may not seem like a lot but income was much lower than today. Many students were getting about $15k-$19k a year for their first job out of college.

    Hi friend, thank you for your transparency. I've been a teacher for 25 years. I felt every bit of what you were saying in this video. All you need to do is wake up every morning and put one foot in front of the other while you work your plan. Trust me you can do it. I was debt free in 2020 then life did the most and kept doing ever since. Also, you have a partner. Hold each other accountable and get 8n a better place with your debt. Even if that means it's not all paid off. You got this 🎉❤

    As a fellow teacher, I totally understand the guilt behind spending so much time with other people’s kids that your own children don’t get the best of you as you say. BUT I honestly think it would be much more fruitful to reduce your stress so they can have more of you instead of spending on vacations when you don’t necessarily have the money to do so. If I were in your shoes, I would drop to part-time work or maybe take a teaching role that is less strenuous. Sounds counterintuitive since you need to pay off debt! But it might actually help because I think a lot of people’s spending issues have more to do with emotional needs rather than a lack of financial knowledge.

    Mrs Mom do what is best for you and your family. you see the debt, knock down the lowest first and remember you could get the loans deferred to allow you to catch up on the small bills. Now make sure pay yourself take 20-50 a check and put away for emergency savings. When you shop, make your budget to stick with (envelopes with how much you would spend in categories like laundry, gas/light/ car note, insurance, mortgage, food, student loan, credit cards etc. Write down what you want to pay each category.

    Students can go to community colleges. Cars can be sold. Vacations are optional. Change your brand of toilet paper. However, it's your journey and you will work it out.

      The toilet paper 👍. We Dutch use our bicycles very much, we do not let lights burn where we are not in the house, we close the watertap while brushing teeth, shower short. Do not buy nonsense items, repair as much as you can yourselfs, try to get a lower car insurance when you do not make many miles. Keep your car tyres at the right pressure. Cook at home 99,9% of the year.

    My anxiety is on overdrive now after watching this. I have zero debt and a paid for house. My minimum monthly payments for internet, cable, utilities is less than $400. I save 70% of my income and live off the other 30% and I worry about spending too much.

    • @Randompotatoes-qs7bm
      @Randompotatoes-qs7bm 2 месяца назад

      Don’t you have to pay anything monthly for the house? (I rent so it sounds like a paid off house…only has school and property tax?). If so…I can’t imagine being stressed out when you’re only living on 30% of income. That’s a very comfortable place to be! Be happy and try not to be so stressed 🎉.

    freeze as much food as you can to eliminate waste. if i made sloppy joes, i make a big batch and freeze enough for 2 sandwiches per serving. easy to warm up and all you need is a bun and chips. meal plan like ground beef pasta casserole, spaghetti, chili, coneys, lasagna. i budget $800 a month for groceries PERIODT! we have a free pop up produce monthly. look for local resources also. ALDI can be your best grocery friend. i even freeze shredded cheese.

    My wife and I are on our debt free journey too so thanks for sharing. The interest on your student loans compared to the minimum payments are very scary. Have you checked into that? The interest looks like it would be higher than the payment. I know some loans interest will capitalize so youll start paying interest on the interest. But, im not 100% sure.

    I would check the payoff on the student loan. For the first one between now and 2034 is ~120 months and making 400 dollar payments only totals 48k so not exactly sure how that can pay off 157k current balance.

    You should, twice a week, pull out the meats you need thawed. Or when you are cleaning up tonights dinner, think about what you are having tomorrow and prep for that. There are solutions to this problem, dont give into the temptation of fast and easy when you can just be prepared.
