I love how you analyze the openings!! Listening to your perspective is very intriguing, symbolism is in fact VERY important, in my opinion, there's more and more symbolist each season. I have a bad habit of not being able to control myself when talking about Haikyu!! so I want to make it simple this time around. Haikyu!! is really special. It's super down to earth, relatable and even the Volleyball is very realistic (outside of a few minor things), but the biggest strength it has is the character cast. It's super rich and amazingly well written, and almost all characters are really really likeable. I can DEFINITELY recommend giving it a shot, I always recommend watching the first 9 episodes to get a good grasp what this show is about. Seasons 1-4 are amazing and can be watched without second thought, after that I suggest switching to the manga because the anime is getting rushed a lot and is cutting important content to speed things up. But IMHO it's totally worth because the manga is genuinely outstanding.

35:51 yeah this guy is one of the biggest obstacles in the whole series, Haikyuu manga is over and I can confidently say that his status stayed that way till the end for me at least, he's awesome.

The libero (player with inverse colored jersey) is kind of like a goalie in the sense that a goalie's job is to keep the other team from scoring, but since in volleyball you score by the ball touching the floor in any part of the opponent's court the libero is there to prevent that. Other players of course can still receive and save the ball but the libero is the defense specialist, they can't spike the ball and can't jump past the half line. The reason that they wear a different color is that bc of how positions rotate in volleyball the libero is constantly entering and leaving the court without actually counting as a player switch, and they need to be easily identified by the refs.

It's been a while, but I had no time to watch this before. I'll hopefully be able to catch up fully soon xD; Todoroki is definitely the strongest of the class at this point. Even Bakugo admitted that before. This episode is carried by the music. 100% agree. The choice of music throughout it is spot-on and is one of the reasons this is one of the most memorable episodes of season 1 for me. It's the smallest of first victories for Deku and co against actual villains, but You Say Run makes it feel like the greatest victory ever, which plays nicely into Deku's future statement of the three of them getting over-confident and becoming liabilities for Aizawa in just a few minutes. Love the setup of the traitor arc too. While there were things I wish Horikoshi had done differently with it, I'm glad it took so long to come back into play. It left such a question hanging over the fandom for years and years and many discussions were had XD

Should you watch it ? Absolutely. Its a masterpiece.

Haikyuu manga is finished yes, the anime not so much. season 4 part 2 with op 7 was aired during Covid. after, they decided to continue through film format and released the first one earlier this year. Still hoping for a miracle to go back to season format though coz there is so much great content left that they would need to sacrifice in order to make it into movies 😞

Phoenix without spoiling is about revival yes but not particularly about matches.

Haikyuu is a great series, def worth a watch. The main character is Hinata, the orange hair guy, and the black haired guy standing next to him in a lot of the openings, Kageyama. Hinata starts off knowing very little and not being great at volleyball, but he is very physically gifted with speed and jump height. Kageyama, his rival basically, is extremely talented, and is overall one of the best players in every category. All of their other teammates are good as well, but need to train and develop new skills to achieve their goal of making it to nationals. This requires Hinata to learn to play volleyball on his own talents, rather than relying on his teammates supporting him, and Kageyama needs to learn to be a true team player by overcoming his ego, despite his insane talent. Every single member of the team, including other side players, coaches, managers, etc, get good development and episodes to their growth. If you want to watch a sports series, this is a great and heartwarming series to start. There are no enemies in this show, only friends and rival teams to help each other improve. 4:10 not rolling, but diving drills. Practicing how to safely dive to receive a spike without hurting yourself, as well as getting it up correctly 5:25 the players with inverse colored jerseys are called liberos. They are the main defensive players of the team, specializing in receiving the ball, while also not being allowed to spike it. Due to how substitutions work in volleyball, with liberos coming on and off the court a lot (plus them not being able to make offensive plays), the jersey is different so they stand out. So kinda like a goalie, or at least as close to the volleyball equivalent that you can get. 6:30 there is a lot of symbolism in the show, especially with the birds as you noted. Our main cast is part of a team called Karasuno, with "karasu" I believe in Japanese meaning crow, which is why you'll see dark feathers or crows a lot, both in the openings and the show. But otherwise, the show is just straight up volleyball. No superpowers, only a tiny bit of exaggeration for some moves, and almost every animation and move is spot on to how it is done in real life. The manga author was actually a volleyball player in highschool, so all the volleyball stuff is very accurate, all the way down to the types of shoes they wear in the show lol. 8:15 a lot of people were immediately interested by this show, to the point that it actually revitalized high school volleyball in Japan to a good degree. 11:00 some part of Hinata's name, I believe maybe "Hi-", means sun in Japanese. Really represents both his personality, as well as his role within the team. Contrasts with the tall "nerd" guy with glasses, who is named Tsukishima. Tsuki means moon in Japanese, and he is the polar opposite kind of person, as well as play style to Hinata. As you noticed, they do play a lot with symbolism in the show. 24:40 different characters 47:20 the "Battle at the Garbage Dump" is what takes place in the Haikyuu movie, so not this one Sorry for the long explanation, I just like going over the show again. Hopefully you didn't consider anything I said to be spoilers. I don't think they are, but up to differing opinions. I would also recommend the endings for Haikyuu if you are interested. They aren't really extremely unique or banger endings like some series (Overlord for example), but are still really chill and nice endings. As for other sports anime openings, assuming you haven't done it yet, Kuroko no Basket openings are fire. Very hype, and the show itself tends to lean a bit more towards the exaggerated side of sports, though not quite super powered. There is also a currently airing anime, Blue Box, which is a romance/sports anime about a guy and girl in different sports bonding and falling in love over their drive to get better and get to nationals in their respective sports (basketball for the girl, badminton for the guy). Opening is done by Hige Dandism, who did the openings for Tokyo Revengers and the first Spy Family opening, and the ending is done by Eve, who did the first JJK opening as well as one of the MHA openings.

During the fifth opening when you were talking about the lack of light, except from on the court. The song “Hikari Are” roughly means “Let there be light”, so the meaning in that is so much more special. Also, yeah the movie came out earlier this year and literally just came out on Crunchyroll couple of days ago, it was peak.

5:24 Idk if this was answered yet, but the reason why that one guy is wearing inverse colours is because he's the libero of the team. The libero is a purely defensive player who is often leaving and reentering the court to be substituted by normal players, so their jersey is a different colour so that they're easily identified by the referee.
