Knot Vanilla

Добавлен 22 авг 2018
A couple that is escaping the rat race to find a more meaningful life around the world. We had 3 children, dogs, a house, corporate jobs, and now that we are empty nesters we have decided we are done! We are going to travel the world to pursue our passion for learning new things, teaching, meeting new people, and exploring the world in a "knot vanilla" way. We are edgy, funny, crazy, and adventurous! We hope you enjoy our story.
Motorsailing up the Florida coast - Log Entry - 113 - Knot Vanilla
How many bridges can you count in a day before you start to lose your mind? We counted 7 for this day. We did learn some really cool tricks from other cruisers also making their way out of the "box" for Hurricane Season. Learned quite a few things, like some cheap marina stops, hidden anchorages, and most importantly, timing bridges. Almost half way up the coast and ready to keep going.

Sailing out of Dinner Key / Coconut Grove - Log Entry - 112 - Knot Vanilla

Tucked away inside of Dinner Key Marina to grab a ball to await the front rolling through. Its was a rough couple days weather wise. Either there was rough seas and no wind, or 20 kt winds. So, we decided to take a break and wait it out since we still have plenty of time before our June 1st deadline to be out of the "box". Much Love Patrick and Mady

Dinghy Drifting In Boot Key - Log Entry - 110 - Knot Vanilla

We have loved our stay at Boot Key. We could have stay for many more months for the fun and great people we have met. However, due to insurance changes, we had to cancel our season in the Bahamas and head north. We are Chesapeake Bay bound next. Not before a great dinghy drift with all our new friends from Boot Key. Next stop will be one of our go to places, Rodriguez Key, on the way north. We ...
Marathon City Marina (aka Boot Key Harbor) review - Log Entry - 109 - Knot Vanilla

Glad to be back. Welcome to Boot Key Harbor. Marathon City Marina is known to have what is called a "sticky bottom", and this video shows why. There is not much that you will need to go anywhere else for any of your mechanical, supply, provisioning, or social needs. This is by far one of our most favorite places that we have had the pleasure of stopping and spending time. The moorings are very ...
Why we love being in and snorkeling in Boot Key - Log Entry - 108 - Knot Vanilla

This week, we spend some time getting out and adventuring around Boot Key Harbor. There are so many great little spots to go and explore and discover. Sombrero Beach is the one of the best spots we have found. On a calm day, it presents a great place to hang out and catch up with fellow cruisers. P\Not to mention the little areas around to go snorkeling and just having a great time exploring aw...

Boot Key Harbor (AKA - Marathon City Marina) has 2 very accurate nicknames that describe it. One is that it has a sticky bottom, and is hard to leave. And the 2nd is that its known as the Marathon Vortex, as it seems you can't leave once you get comfy. It is very true, we are meeting some of the coolest people yet to date. There is such a large community here of fellow cruisers that all have th...
Finally Sailing to Boot Key Harbor - Log Entry - 105 - Knot Vanilla

We faced our fears, and slept a good solid night's sleep knowing we set our hook in a good sandy bottom. We are pumped and prepped to finally get to Boot Key and grab us a ball. This place was on our must visit list last year when the pandemic was in full swing, and we were not able to come intothe harbor from restrictions. This was definitely on our punch list to visit. So far..... we LOVE IT!...
Making a stop in Dinner Key Marina - Log Entry - 103 - Knot Vanilla

Before heading to our next stop in Rodriguez Key, we wanted to take a day and wait out the weather on a mooring ball. Dinner Key is about an hour across the bay. The weather models show we should be pretty well protected and get us a good night's restful sleep. Mix that with some small provisioning, some nice long hot showers, laundry facilities, and we are in heaven for the next 2 days. It was...

I have a Hunter Legend 35.5 that also has no windlass, I was already thinking of doing something like this. How has this held up over the years? Anything you would do different?
You've got a *fun* one there bud! Your after-shudder from her 👅 in 👂was indicative of endurings you experience! Nice job folks. 🌅⛵
One of those Honda electric suitcase scootes, or a Byrd Segway, only thing is charging it, and battery fires and boats do not mix well.
The first tool you used
What tool is that?
Still following you and counting down the days till retirement. 03/31/2025. Where will you be this Thanksgiving? Love to meet up with you.
Hey guys!
Been a few. How have things been going up there? I'm sure this fire season is keeping you guys busy. We are doing some east coast traveling this summer before heading back out to the boat. Although, we do miss the upper west coast and it's beauty.

Love the pineapple 🍍 🤟🤟
If you know, you know....... Lol
ICW in Florida. We all have to do it once...
It was an experience. If for nothing more than to encourage us to take the offshore route next time. Lol
Why do you repeat your conversation???
After a certain amount of rum, you not only see double, but sometimes you speak double too. Lol
😂
glad there was no damage!!🏖🏖🌅🌅
Same. I will take a few scratches any day. She is coming new for a new bottom job in the next year. So, we can resolve those scratches.
Steven and James we send our love glad to see you guys are still enjoying your sailboat
Yes we are. So much to catch up on. Alot of changes, travel, and assisting family happening recently.
great job on the cushions!!
Thank you. Let's see if this new method holds true over time with all the extra zippers.
Awesome seeing y'all back uploading. Hope all is well. Are y'all coming back to Tampa?
We are not sure. Our next sail plan has us offshore from Chesapeake straight to the Bahamas in the next season depending on the family assistance needed, and the purchase of a new autopilot.
How well does she sail with only the staysail? I ask because of difficulty out on the bowsprit.
Hey,,, just found your channel. are you guys sailing and Endeavour? she looks a helluva lot like my e38ac, especially the interior :D.
Yes. She is an '86 Endeavour 35.5. Just the perfect size. Although, we still have that 5.5ft draft to take into consideration.
Brother Patrick! Hope you and Madeline are doing well. Look forward to retiring in less than two years, buying a sailboat and get off of the highway and wake up in some bay…
Keep that goal in sight! It comes before you realize and then you are retired for 5 years in a blink.
Heat gun on the rail to help the varnish come of easy
You talk too much. I want to see the boat. I see people everyday
I noticed you were using the webbing mast steps to go aloft. How do you like it? Would you recommend it? If so, what brand is it? I use the ATN mastclimber but it takes a huge toll on upper body/arms.
We have the Mast Mate climber. We would recommend it for sure. We use our Spinnaker line as our safety line with a boatsun chair. The person handling the safety line will help keep tension on the line and assist with climbing. Nit that you "need" it. But it does save some upper body tiredness. Allows you more time to work without wearing yourself out. Also keeps the straps from hurting your feet and helps any foot fatigue if you are at one place for a while.
bread is my weakness, yours looks amazing!!
It tastes even better than it looks.
Just started following you and watching from the beginning. A whisker pole would have been beneficial..Sure you know that. I will keep at the videos until I catch up.
Check out Tom Cunliffe youtube video about how to use simple hand signals from person dropping anchor to person on the helm.
Thanks. We have been divers for a long time. So, we modified them for us to understand easily. Unless it's pitch black and you're dragging anchor. Then yelling works great. Lol
Thanks for a fun video and for showing us the solar bread maker. Does it cook other things too? If you have a chance, can you post a link for the solar bread maker? Have you been to the turtle hospital yet? If you are still in Marathon, it is worth going to. Fair winds!
Rubber chicken guy from thousand trails say hi! Keep up the videos.
You know..... We have some changes coming up, and I keep that little rubber chicken in my pocket and say to myself "don't be a chicken" all the time now. Thanks.
@@knotvanilla7808 that’s awesome 👏 Thanks for sharing! Keep inspiring others!
wow!...kmart?
I know right? We can't even remember the last time we saw one.
Hey Patrick, helping you with your Spanish! “Donde esta las chi chi’s?” 😂😂😂 I hope you and Madeleine are doing well and continue to live your dreams. Miss you guys.
I will have to tell you how it goes after I wake up from my coma. Miss you guys too.
Looking forward to the Boot Key Harbor information videos.
We took advantage of the workspace to work on some projects. So, you will get to see it.
Is this for an Endeavour?
Yes. Ours is an '86 Endeavour 35.5.
Glad to see your channel up and running. Your doing a great job!
Thanks. It's always great returning from our annual break.
The Keys are awesome. I can't wait to get back down there. I'm on the Okeechobee water way, heading down in a few months. Thanks for the video and for keeping me motivated!
If you liked that one, wait til you get to see how blue and clear the water on tomorrow's video. Lol
@@knotvanilla7808 I'm looking forward to it!
You guys look pretty fit recently. I'm still sitting around on my duff!! At least you are getting back out there in terms of videos!!!
I know right? Being on the boat works your core muscles without even doing anything but keeping your balance.
Welcome back! Missed ya'll.....
Thanks. It's always fun coming back after a break and catching up.
Good luck with your journey. I just brought a ketch down from Maryland and empathize with your having to repair things! When I bought my first boat I thought I would be doing nothing but sailing, entertaining friends, having adult beverages, etc. Now however I have exciting things to do such as wiring, epoxy repairs, gel coat touch ups, and many other such fun things. Thanks for another fun episode. Fair winds!
Thank you. And yes, the project list never ends.....even when you finish it. But the good news is that you never get bored.
Where’s the metal rub guard for the loop at the end? Does it come with one?
Fort pierce inlet?
It was the Ft Lauderdale inlet.
You are so brave to tackle such a project! Smart to use the old Bimini as a pattern! What type & weight thread did you use & where did you get it?
Mady always says, go big or go home. Also, we tend to learn more when it's either a sink or swim situation. So, we have learned you can do almost anything you set your mind to. Plus......RUclips is one of our closest friends for projects like this.
video starts at 11.11
Any more videos coming?
Yes. We take a break every year away from everything, do some repairs, spend time with friends and family, and create our next year's plans. Next video will go live this afternoon.
I have the exact color on my Flicka I bought in the south San Francisco bay named good news.
Such a cool little boat. She is a gem for sure.
This is the way
The only way.
What happened to you two.
We are posting again as of today. Next video will go live this afternoon. We usually take a nice long break each year to evaluate our plans for the next year, do repairs, and spend time with friends and family. We have alot to share this year.
I hope you two are doing ok these days? Miss the vids!
We are back from our annual break we take every year to review our year, trips, plans, repairs, and spend time with family and friends. We just started posting again, and will go live today.
@@knotvanilla7808 Yaaaaaaahhhh.
What type boat is it
She is a 1986 Endeavour 35.5.
How has it performed and held up thank you
It has been a lifesaver. And since we actually wired it in to work as intended, we wonder how we ever survived without it.
@@knotvanilla7808 good to know. Mine will be a project as well. Thank you
4 months? Where you at?
We usually take a nice long break every year. We spend some time with the family, evaluate our recent trips, do some repairs, and make our next year's plans. We just started posting again after our last break.
Just found your adventure, starting with this video… excited to see how it goes!!
Thank you for joining in. We hope some of our videos are just as entertaining for you to watch as they were for us to make.
Still like the Zar? What horsepower are you running and can you plan with 2 people. Thanks for posting.
Getting up on a plane with 2 people can be a challenge. But as long as the water is calm, it can still happen. With a single person, it will happen in seconds. We use a 6HP Tahatsu which we love. With 2-4 people we go about 7 kts tops, and with one person The Child will slide along the water at about 15kts.
Great job. I also hate taking things out of the holes...in the boat 😉. Electrical projects are my favorite. So many people get intimidated by them.
The more you do them, the easier they get. Sometimes a 2nd set of hands is invaluable. And especially goes quickly when your 2nd set of hands have done the job before.
