Enjoyable video. Growing herbs is so much fun. Love thyme. Goes in so many dishes and you can make a butter using thyme and a drop of lemon juice. Wonderful to sauté vegetables or on chicken. I'll make it in the summer, roll it up and freeze for use in winter. Sanctuary was impressive. Hello from a snowy Oregon, US.
Hi Melissa, thank you so much for your lovely message! Growing herbs is such a joy, and I love how you use thyme it sounds absolutely delicious! I’ll have to try making that butter, it sounds perfect for adding a little extra flavour to dishes. I love rolling it up and freezing it for winter such a great tip! ❄ The sanctuary truly is a special place, and I’m so glad you enjoyed seeing it. Sending you warm wishes all the way from Portugal to snowy Oregon, stay cosy! ☕❤
I was at the Sanctuário do Senhor Jesus da Pedra almost exactly one year ago. I was closed so I only saw the outside.
How wonderful! You didn’t get to go inside? It has different opening times for visits. That’s a shame it’s such a beautiful place! I hope you enjoyed the video, though I know it’s never quite the same as experiencing it in person.
Not quite the same but still very good. Thank you.
You're most welcome. I hope you have a lovely week.
Adorei o video.
Thank you for taking us with you! I thoroughly enjoyed all the places. I absolutely love herbs and grow them on my kitchen window. I am really obsessed with basil and grow several varieties 🙂.You are so lucky to have a garden❤. Antiquing is my true passion. So, antique and thrift stores are the places where I get my inspiration (apart from the nature, of course). The church is amazing! ❤
You’re most welcome, Alisa! I’m so glad you enjoyed this week’s video-it truly means a lot. 😊 I love herbs too, but basil and echinacea are still a work in progress for me! We feel so blessed to have this space and slowly grow more of what we love. Antique shops are such a joy! The UK has so many great ones, and I loved the adventure of finding hidden gems. It took me a while to discover where to go, but now I have a few favourites. I can’t wait to take you along on treasure hunts for our home. You’ll definitely see plenty of nature because it’s my happy place-right alongside the garden. 🌿 This year, I’m challenging myself to explore more on my own and share the journey with you. I do get a little anxious going somewhere new alone, but once I’m there, I always wonder why I worried in the first place! 😄
@SilverCoastDiaries I can't wait to follow you in your new travels and discoveries! And also to see the progress of your lovely garden. Your vlog is so inspiring, giving me both the feeling of excitement and tranquility by the way you intertwine the themes. BTW, I also enjoyed the Lidl haul. I even chuckled seeing that you've bought exactly the same that is usually on my shopping list😁
@ Thank you so much for your kind words, it truly means a lot to me! You made me laugh with the Lidl shopping comment. 😄 I’m excited too, but I’m taking things slowly and sensibly I have a lot to learn in Portugal. One thing I love about Portugal is how relaxed the people are-things take time, and I’m learning to embrace that. I always get nervous when planning travel and end up worrying, so I’m pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I’m really looking forward to more adventures in Portugal! 😊
@SilverCoastDiaries surely, take your time and enjoy the experiences Portugal has to offer you🌹
Approaching life at a slower pace allows us to truly appreciate the little everyday joys, and I feel blessed to share a glimpse of this beautiful country and its rich culture with you all. ❤
Great video. I enjoyed that little antique shop. I also live on the silver coast but unfortunately don’t have any antique shops in my area.
Hi Christina, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It took me a while to find antique shops in Portugal since everything is so old-school, and not everything is online, which I love. It’s been quite the adventure! I’ve linked this antique shop, and I hope you get to go on a little treasure hunt yourself. 😊
@ thanks so much. I’ll have a look.
@ You’re most welcome! It took me a while to find antique shops in Portugal, but I’ve discovered a few gems and will definitely bring you along. 😊
HELLO. I LOVE SAILING, I WALKED ON THE DOURO RIVER ON TOURISM BOATS ( FROM SAILOR TO THE TOP) THEN I ALSO WENT FISHING, I LOVED IT! I KNOWN THE WHOLE COAST FROM THE SOUTH OF SPAIN, PASSING PORTUGAL TO THE NORTH OF SPAIN, VERY CLOSE TO FRANCE. THE LAND VIEWED FROM THE SEA IS BEAUTIFUL. EVERY DAY IS DIFFERENT. HUGS
Good morning Antonio, I completely agree, the sea is so relaxing and has such a calming effect. Your experiences sound absolutely amazing, especially seeing the coast from so many different places. It must have been such a special journey. 😍
HELLO. TODAY I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT GAGO COUTINHO AND SACADURA CABRAL. 2 PORTUGUESE PILOTS WHO MADE THE FIRST AIR CROSSING TO THE SOUTH ATLANTIC (LISBOA RIO DE JANEIRO) IN 1922! IMAGINE THE AIRPLANE! THERE IS 1 REPLICA OF THE AIRPLANE IN LISBON. HUGS
Hi Antonio, hope you are well. "Thank you so much for sharing this! Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral’s journey is truly inspiring, what an achievement for its time! I can only imagine how incredible the replica must look in Lisbon. Have you had the chance to see it in person?
@@SilverCoastDiariesHELLO. I KNOW THERE IS A REPLICA, BUT I ONLY SAW IT ON VIDEO. 1 TV IS PRODUCING HISTORY!
When I saw the knight souvenirs I thought you were in Tomar, guess I was wrong:). I was born in Monte Estoril, but only went back on holidays as a child. It is lovely to see town in Portugal that are not covered in graffiti like Monte and Lisbon.
Hi Laura, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! I’m not much of a fan of big cities either, so I don’t visit them often. I’ve always wondered about all the graffiti too,Youth here are so polite and friendly Hi Laura, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! I’m not much of a fan of big cities either, so I don’t visit them often. I’ve always wondered about all the graffiti. Youth in Portugal are very friendly and polite. If I’m not mistaken,I think it seems to be a form of expression for the youth? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Are you still living in Portugal?
@@SilverCoastDiaries No, moved to Canada as an infant (well my parents moved me:). Have lived in Canada since then. My daughter though, being born/raised in Canada, moved to Lisbon about 4 yrs ago and is permanently residing there, has her citizenship etc. She loves it. I love the 4 seasons we have here, so would not move back (although never say never). I don't think it is right for anyone to graffiti anywhere/anything. It is destruction of property not yours and most of those spraying are in their 20's & 30's--so not "youths".
@ Thank you for sharing! It must be wonderful for your daughter to live in Lisbon and embrace her roots while building her life there, it’s such a beautiful city. Canada sounds lovely, too, especially with the charm of four distinct seasons. Canada is very pretty I visited Vancouver I was so impressed with how clean it was, and I loved it. Thank you for sharing that with me! I see a lot of graffiti and have always wondered about it. People just said it was a form of self-expression whenever I asked. I wasn’t aware of the age group involved, so I’m glad you mentioned that, and I completely agree with you.
i love seeing your clean page.greetings from malaysia. 9:36
Hi welcome 🥰 thank you so much for your kind words. It makes me happy that you enjoyed it . What's the weather like in Malaysia? I have always wanted to visit but haven't made it yet🙏🏼
The beginning of January I do very little. Then I will start sorting recipes. I clip and write down recipes all year and sort them in January. I update my calendar with birthdays so I remember to send cards. Just copy from last year's calendar. So nice you got some flowers, pretty! No gardening here, 23 degrees F (-5 C) this morning. Hi from Oregon US.
Hi Melissa, that sounds lovely! January is the perfect time to embrace calm rather than tackle long to-do lists. My plan is also to try some new recipes and organise the kitchen, it’s always so rewarding. I hope Portugal brought you a little warmth. We had some rain yesterday, which is much needed and always welcome!. I put the Christmas decorations away today and I felt so much lighter 😅. Have you tackled yours?
@@SilverCoastDiaries I've put the decorations in the back room. I'll sort and put in boxes soon. I'm overly neat about storage. Certain things have to go in certain boxes. I do different styles each year. This was white/snowflakes. All in one box. Tree decos all in with similar. Linens in one box. Nativity. Crazy I know but makes for ease come Christmas.
I love that, Melissa! There’s truly nothing like an organised space, it makes life so much easier. As long as it works for you, that’s what counts. ❤️
HELLO. 1 OF THE DISHES OF PORTUGUESE CUISINE, (TRIPAS A MODA DO PORTO) ORIGINED IN THE FRENCH INVASIONS (1807 - 1811) DUE TO THE CREATED FAMINE, WHERE NAPOLEAON'S TROOPS LOOTED AND TOOK THE NOBLE MEAT! LEAVING ALONE THE GUTS, HUNGER MADE AND INVENTION! AFTER WASHING AND COOKING TOGETHER WITH BEANS, IT MADE THIS DELICIA! HUGS
Hi Antonio, what an incredible piece of history behind Tripas à Moda do Porto! It’s fascinating how such challenging times led to the creation of such a beloved dish. I love how food often tells a story of resilience and creativity. Thank you so much for sharing this it makes me appreciate Portuguese cuisine even more! Hugs to you as well! 😊
@@SilverCoastDiaries I HAVE MUCH MORE TO SHARE, BUT I DON'T WANT TO MONOPOLIZE. HUGS
Bom fim de semana a chover em todo o portugal
Obrigado, espero que esteja a ter um bom fim de semana. Sim, precisamos da chuva :) óptima para a natureza. O tempo hoje faz-me lembrar o final do outono no Reino Unido.
Y the rocks at the bottom?
The rocks help prevent the roots from spreading too much and ensure water is slowly absorbed by the plant. I have learned from the past 😅
@SilverCoastDiaries oh nice il keep it in mind
@@alittleheavenonearth I will replant them in the garden, fingers crossed for next year :)
Another tip: if you’re planting in pots with drainage holes, adding stones at the bottom helps prevent soil from clogging the holes and keeps your plant from sitting in water. 😊
@@SilverCoastDiaries um sure it will do well! What part of Portugal u at?
Love all the flowers 💐
Hi Anne, hope you are well. Thank you so much for your kind comment 🥰

@@alittleheavenonearth Happy New year I hope you are well 🥰

Nice!
I went exploring and discovered this wonderful walking area and I took a little trek and loved it! 😊
Beautiful town scenery!
I’m so glad you enjoyed our adventure! The Óbidos area is wonderful.
Encontrei por acaso o canal e adorei. Bom trabalho. Fico feliz por gostarem do meu país.
Muito obrigado pelo seu comentário. Fico contente por gostar do canal. Adoro Portugal e as pessoas portuguesas são maravilhosas.
Beautiful ❤ I’d like to visit soon
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Portugal is such a beautiful place with the kindest people, I hope you get to visit soon!🥰
THERE IS 1 CURIOSITY IN PORTO, THAT NOT ALL PORTUENSE PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT! THE DOM LUIS I BRIDGE DOESN'T HAVE A DOM (KING) BECAUSE HE DIDN'T COME AT THE INAUGURATION! ON THE BOTTOM BOARD IT IS WRITTEN (LUIS I) THERE ARE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE PORTUGUESE! IN PORTO THEY SAY MORE IMPROPER WORDS! JOKINGLY SAY THAT THEY ARE DOTS AND COMMAS!🤠
Oh, I see! That’s so interesting-thank you, Antonio!😁
CORKSHOP
Last night, I discovered you can take cork farm tours in Alentejo, Portugal! It’s definitely something I’ll be exploring, and of course, I’ll bring you along. I find it absolutely fascinating! 😃
You took us to some very beautiful places.
Happy New Year! Thank you so much, I 'm glad you enjoyed the video. I’d love to know which parts you enjoyed the most!
EXCELLENT, SHOWN IN THE VIDEO, VARIOUS CORK ITEMS, BAGS, WALLETS, ETC THERE ALSO CORK UMBRELLAS! THERE IS 1 LARGE CORK INDUSTRY! NASA USES IT FOR INSULATION OF NAVIGATIONS.HUGS
Hi Antonio, I hope you’re well! Wow, a cork umbrella-that sounds so fascinating! 😍 And NASA? That’s really interesting-I’ve learned something new today, thank you! I’d love to visit a place like a cork factory or shop to see how it’s all made. I’ll have to look into it and, of course, bring you along! 🤗
@@SilverCoastDiaries YES TO NASA OR BY THERMAL OR SOUND, ENTRY AND RE-ENTRY INTO THE ATMOSPHERE-CORKSHOP
Lots of transplanting today. Good luck with your lemon tree. Can't grow them here, too cold in the winter. Love the smell of lemons. Hi from Oregon US.
Hi Melissa, I absolutely love lemons, they’re a staple in my morning and evening drinks. My baby lemon trees are growing, and I’m hopeful they’ll thrive. Every trip to the garden centre ends with a new fruit tree coming home with me-it’s hard to resist! You can never have too many fruit trees, and I see it as a bit of a survival challenge, not knowing which ones will adapt and flourish. Watching them grow is such a joy! 🍋🌳🌿
Your garden looks like fall garden here. We get a lot of rain in the winter so can't do much outside. Love a good shopping trip, nice to see what is in your market. Hello from chilly Oregon, USA.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t western Oregon a similar climate to Portugal? I love farmers’ markets and am always searching for local produce-Portugal has some amazing offerings. I can’t wait for spring and summer to enjoy all the colourful local produce! 😊 This morning is a bit misty and cold, but yesterday, we had a warm, mild day-perfect for getting some gardening jobs done.
@@SilverCoastDiaries I think Portugal is a bit warmer and perhaps drier. Oregon is more North. I am in the valley so about an hour away from coast. West of the Cascade Range of small mountains. It is always warmer here than the coast and, in the summer, much drier.
@@melissalambert7615 Sounds beautiful by the mountains! I understand now, it’s definitely drier and more humid during the summer in the silvercoast, even in the winter. Mornings are pretty cold here, but once the sun comes out, it can warm up nicely. ❄🌞
We plant bulbs here in the fall. I'm in Oregon, USA and it rains a lot in the winter. You can't plant in the mud.
Morning Melissa, the last few years I’ve tried growing them here in Portugal, and I think last year was a lot wetter compared to this year, which has been much drier with less rain during the rainy season. Fingers crossed! 😁 Every year, they come up but stay really short. I’ve even tried putting them in the fridge before planting. It doesn’t usually get cold here until late December, which is when I plant them. I’ll keep trying and hoping for the best! 😃😂
@@SilverCoastDiaries I prefer daffodils over tulips. Tulips fade in a few years. I like the small bulbs like grape hyacinth and Scalia. One tip: after the blossoms have faded, leave the leaves. And feed the plant. That will strengthen the bulb for next year. Mulch with leaves during your hot summers.
I love daffodils, but for some reason, I couldn’t get any here in Portugal this year. Tulips can be a bit temperamental for me, but Narcissus has done really well. Scilla is absolutely beautiful, too! 😊 . I just leave hyacinths in the pot and feed them-thank you! I’ll definitely give this a try. 🌼
Oh the passion fruit!!! 😋
Happy New Year, Susan! 🎉 I absolutely love passion fruit, too-it’s so versatile for creating delicious recipes. Have you tried passion fruit cheesecake? It’s one of my favourites! 😊
@ no I have not! But must soon! 😋
You must try it! It’s absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to build a like-minded community where we can share ideas and inspiration. Hopefully, I’ll be eligible for that feature on RUclips soon! I have to keep working on content, but I’m excited to keep building and growing this space! 🤗

Where do I find the recipe?
Hi Marah, this is usually a mix I buy from Lidl for a quick family meal. I add my own twist. I have written a recipe for you and included the instructions. Thank you for your comment. Quick and Nutritious Spinach & Pumpkin Soup Ingredients: 1 packet of spinach 1/4 pumpkin (or substitute with 1/2 butternut squash) 1 leek, sliced 2 carrots, chopped (adjust to your preference) 3 medium-sized potatoes, diced 1 red pepper, diced 1 red onion, finely chopped 1 piece of ginger (about 1-inch), grated 1 tsp turmeric A pinch of black pepper Salt, to taste Homemade broth (chicken or vegetable) Optional: Use chicken bones for added flavour, or substitute with vegetable stock for a vegan option. Instructions: 1. Prep the Vegetables: Peel and chop all vegetables into manageable pieces. 2. Combine Ingredients: Add all ingredients, including the broth, to a large pan. 3. Boil: Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. 4. Simmer: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer gently for about 1 hour. 5. Serve: Enjoy the soup hot with a slice of sourdough bread or any bread of your choice. Tip: This soup keeps well for a few days in the fridge, making it perfect for quick, healthy meals! 🌱
