don't people always say h264 is a delivery format and not an editing format? need that lossless baby
A lot of proxy files are rendered into H.264 for editing. H.265 is a little bit better for editing but it's not a huge difference
thank you so much for this video. Storage had=s been a BIG problem for me
Which version of Media Encoder you have? I have the 23.2.1 one and it doesn't seem to support braw files
I’m up-to-date. Media Encoder 2023
@@aptummedia yeah same. Anyway the solution for me was to reinstall blackmagic raw again after installing media encoder and the files can now be imported as you showed
@@jbousd2 I’m glad you figured it out! I’ve never experienced an importing issue with it personally.
@@jbousd2 Thanks for your comment, had the same issue. Reinstalling raw fixed it for me too!
I love this but don't you think some information is lost by doing this aside the Braw capabilities cause I rarely use it. i edit with premiere and export 444XQ to grade in resolve but sometimes I feel like I'm loosing some details in the roundtrip and now this. I really love this method but I fear it will loose some resolution and dynamics range.
You will definitely lose a lot of data, you are correct. The purpose of this is for footage that you will only reuse for marketing/social media. For me, I shoot a lot of corporate, and when a project is done I don’t want to delete the footage, but it’s rare I ever use it
Once you shrink a file, it ain’t the same. Even if you can’t see the difference it’s still not the same when it comes to color correcting or pushing the crap out of it. So if it’s important enough, buy more hard drives and don’t do any shrinking.
You are correct about compression, but in my case I rarely reuse footage. I shoot a lot of corporate so I mainly use old clips for marketing and social media. These files are more than plenty for that.
Nice but I think you got the variable vs constant bitrate mixed up. Q3,Q5 is varilable bitrate. 3:1, 5:1 is constant bitrate.
Ahh you’re right! Thanks for the correction.
so if we shor in Q5 should we put it like VBR then?
@@alea9226 It's not a strict rule, but in my opinion if you have variable bit rate footage, you should compress with a variable bit rate. Realistically, it won't make a huge difference.
This is actually a lifesaver! I have a ton of external storages so I can do this and save storage and money
