80 bucks a week? What a rip off!!! Personal training is a shit industry.
@@matthewthehawk1066 I mean - we are relatively cheap comparatively… are you upset at the price or the industry, or just having a bad day
I like this!
This was great. I’m in year 3 of training full time and dealing with a lot of this stuff now. Thank you!
I hope you are fine, your channel content is good but there are some problems, and I want to share your channel problems with you.
Hello, STClearn I hope you are well. I have a great idea about your RUclips channel.
Of what?
Stop using industry jargon when talking with clients. Successful trainers must adapt to clients. 20 to 50 lbs for under 40 is easily dealt with. Acute asthmatic, arthritis dufferer or a diabetic is not easy. Running 5 miles is extremely difficult when you're caughing up mucus and blood after running 1 lap. Dieting becomes difficult when your blood sugar level is all over the place. Giving birth to children affected 30 is very taxing on female bodies, especially when most women have nutrient deficiency diets or have been using artificial hormones for long periods of time. You need to adapt or be selective of clients. Health work out body or do you want to be a life changer. Hard work is hard.

haha wowsers got me good.
Pretty interesting discussion! It's so cool to be launched onto small productions. RUclips has done a great job in that regard. A few notes: 1. To level up your podcast game, get this guy you're talking about as a guest! Subject matter experts make the coolest podcast guests. 2. In the science community, IQ is widely regarded as a defunct ideology. It's primarily used by parents who want their children to be special and people who want their egos to be inflated. It's not a particularly useful term of measurement and is flawed in many ways. Moreover, I wouldn't call Elon Musk a 160 IQ genius, I would equate him more to Henry Ford. 3. I think this is not a fair representation of what intelligence is. You have to understand that all current tests of intelligence are solvable. That is, given time and access to Google, you could score perfectly on almost every test. This is what ChatGPT and others are doing. It's a compilation of all human knowledge applied to a text prediction algorithm. I do agree though. Humans will be defunct quickly. Subject matter experts won't exist when there is a coherent chatbot with access to everyone's publications. I'm studying AI and physics but I suspect that my career prospects may become limited by the time I finish my studies. I think your friend is accurate. In it's current form, AI is still a tool wielded by humans. There is no embedded self-determination. That means that it's still subject to the shortcomings of the humans that wield them. I'll close on a note: Moore's Law (not a natural law despite its name). It was an observation that the number of transistors on a pcb doubles every 2 years, ie, exponential growth. You might make the same prediction about AI intelligence, but note that Moore's Law no longer applies. We are now at subexpoential transistor growth. I suspect that AI intelligence as we currently perceive it, is limited as well.

You don't get the leads, the sales staff give leads to their favourites. You are missing some info here. You said they employ staff but not personal trainers? These gym pry on newbies who know very little about the industry. These gyms sham contract it is actually illegal just EBA are holding them to be able to do it. The 500 phone calls are the same leads the previous trainers got and the other trainers. You are basing that PT is based on just making money it is actually providing a service. A lot of pts market themselves out of scope of practice and it is based on image not knowledge. Not everyone who goes to gym wants a pts and in todays world there instatrsiners who many follow so they are not interested in a trainer in a club. Big box gyms actualky have KPIS to reach from income from trainers but you are implying they dont charge rent to keep the gym a float. Just because you sign an agreement doesnt mean the agreement is actually done legally or fairly. There are promises the club makes they will help you. No they don't they only help the ones they want. I have sat in meetings where the fitness director has said make sure this trainer gets the majority of the leads. Free labour is free labour when the gym is pocketing a fee for you to do the work. Just because you had success doesnt mean everyone will because these gyms are not about knowledge and skill but marketing, spin and popularity.
Thanks for the comments Bob, happy to address your points… Help me out though, you don’t get leads, the sales staff give them to their favorites… but it’s free labor... They give free labor to their favorites to punish them? Yes they employ staff, and not PT’s? These gyms offer contracts ONLY to qualified personal trainers… literally the qualification stating you know enough about the industry to be able to work within it… if you have an issue with trainers knowledge post cert, wouldn’t that be an RTO issue? I can’t speak to the legality of the contract, I’m not a legal expert, but I understand your statement to say, the contracts are illegal except for the thing that makes them legal? In my experience, the trainers who say they’ve all been called are the ones that don’t do the 500 calls… Let's not forget, the sales team is bringing in 150-200 new members per month… In 10 years doing this I'm yet to meet a trainer who made 40 dials per week and isn’t busy. This next part lost me sorry, in the video I addressed the points made in the tik tok video which didn’t mention service. PT is based on making money, we are having this very discussion because people didn’t make enough money and are blaming their big box gym. Now the only way to make money in a service industry is to provide a service? To make a lot of money you need to provide a very good service… I don’t understand the relevance of some trainers working out of scope… and are we really blaming Instagram as the reason these trainers are failing? I thought it was the gym’s fault? Of course gyms have KPI’s on PT rental income, you should have KPI’s in every area of your business - we have KPI’s for our clothing sales but it certainly doesn’t pay our bills. Just like the 10% of gross income gym’s make from their PT’s isn’t keeping them afloat. Not to mention the costs involved in uniform, management, infrastructure, education etc.. For fun, let's pretend the gym relies on that rent as income to stay open, would they not be incentivized to create successful PT’s to avoid the rent free period for new trainers? Rendering the scam & evil prying arguments redundant. Do you have any evidence suggesting the agreement is illegal or have you just heard someone else say it? It would seem after 15+ years of this model existing something would have been done if it were in fact illegal. Again with they only help their favorites.. But by only helping the ones they want, you actually mean forcing them into more horrible free labor than others? “This trainer get’s more leads” is a very open statement - was it the trainer who actually completed the kick starts, the one in their first couple weeks who needed the most help, the one showing up for weekly mentoring, the one committing and showing up? Or worst case scenario you had a dud FD, did you take the information to your regional manager? Or do anything about it other than complain under a false name on RUclips? Why would you, me or anyone expect everyone to be successful? The small business failure rate in Australia is 60%, so I wouldn’t expect our industry to be any different. Running a personal training ‘business’ requires knowledge and skill in 5 key arrears; Mindset, Business, Service, Client Acquisition and Technical Skills - feel free to check out our podcast episode where we unpack them all open.spotify.com/episode/7e26Cw3KTX9dXb5m2Dnltp?si=yIFaHUcwSFOX6qV5_1hLJA Hope I’ve helped solve some problems for you Bob, if you’re still struggling with your PT business, I’d be more than happy to jump on a call and help you out.
@@stclearn i dont struggle bevause I dont pay rent I have my own set up now. Charging for a service (pt) and the gym pockets the money is actually illegal. That is free labour. Again the trainers are not running their own business they are running a business under the gyms direction. You are not wearing your business uniform you are wearing theirs? You are actually representing the gym not yourself. Your clients have to be members to access you. Again another facet where the gym is limiting your ability to work. You are sharing the gym with other trainers and members so again you don't have priority access to the gym. So why are you paying rent????? If you don't have access. It is called sham contracting and it is illegal. Interestingly the weekly mentoring was sales pitches to con members into services not actually make you a better trainer. There is thing called ethics and morals some have them some don't. Success is noy purely based on how many clients you have or how much money you make which it seems that is what your only concern is. There is no way that 20 trainers in the same gym can have the same success by the same plan you have. I have seen trainers approach other trainers clients and spread lies about them to get them to swap over. I have fitness directors deliberately sway members to certain trainers. Even the membership consultants think it is bullshit unless they are pals with a trainer. Love how you say complain. People allowed to have an opinion on a topic just like you do. But everything you say is based around money??????????? You do realise life is not purely about money. Some trainers don't mislead clients along just to grab their cash and some do. Many many generic trainers in these gyms who are body builders and just use the training they are given by a coach and use it on their clients. Do what I say and look like me. Ethics and morals
@@bobdown5520 Hey Bob, Thanks for engaging again 💪 though I'm not sure I see any direct counters to the points in the video or the points we made in my previous reply? I will answer you one concern around the 20 trainers not all being successful. Price’s law suggests the square root of any group produces 50% of the output. This is true in all areas of life, economics and nature. The square root of 20 = 4.5... Suggesting the 4-5 top trainers would have 50% of the club's clientele... You’d like big box gyms to defy a proven law of economics and everyone should be equally successful? This law is a human nature predictor, most people won’t do what's required to fill their books, so there will be uneven distribution. And lastly “Everything you say is about money” hmm, i’d look up our brand a bit more there mate. So summing up you comments so far, the contracts are illegal, expect they aren't... The gym should give everyone equal outcomes (equal opportunity isn’t good enough) regardless of individual trainers efforts. Despite this entire conversation being about leads and trainers not making enough money, we shouldn't talk about money. Trainers do get mentoring on how to convert client's. And, if you're able to build a relationship and trust by identifying the problems a member has, solve them, then provide a great service - you lack morals and ethics - which is also big box gyms fault.. we live by a growth and ownership mindset - whereby every mistake/failure is a chance to learn, and whether things are your fault or not, they are always your responsibility. Blaming someone else for our failures isn't it for us 💪 All the best Bob
@@stclearn 100% correct on these points!!
Free leads, not free labour 👍🏼
Free leads? They are paying rent so not free. The leads are the same leads as every other trainer in the gym. They are charging members for sessions and taking the money. These gyms make promises they don't keep
