James Booker - Junco Partner
Просмотров 49 тыс.13 лет назад
James Booker performing his very non-traditional version of Junco Partner at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1978. Instead of singing the song about a friend Booker transfers the lyrics to talk about him. One of the best "boogy-woogy" songs ever recorded.
James Booker - Pappa Was A Rascal
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.13 лет назад
James Booker performing Pappa Was A Rascal at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1978. Listen to the lyrics, very bold as he is talking about fucking nothing but white women. James Booker was a rebel who died before his time. Also he mentions the CIA in many of his lyrics.

Hair-ron. Old school inner-city slang, particularly on the East Coast. Me and an old junco partner used to call it that for a goof.

Listening to it again I can say the cracking of his voice makes it more genuine. Obviously, something was going on with him. But it does take away from the pop quality of the song.

He's best solo, with his voice, his piano, and soul. This seems contrived

I:ve been a fan of your dad's since 1966. His voice did it for me. Such a silky baritone - I often tried to emulate it when I had my band. Never could do it. He was unique. He belongs to the ages now, but what a trip to have him when we did.
