Welcome to my channel, in this short #sketchbooktour video I'm chatting about one of my completed sketchbooks. I always have several sketchbooks on the go, a small one that fits in my handbag, larger ones for experimental fun in the studio and others for taking out and about. This sketchbook is one I made for myself using my favourite #saunderswaterford paper. Please follow my channel to see mo...

I can't hear the dark outside...😂
Beautiful!
@debbyshehane9955 thank you!
Hello, would acrylic matte gel medium work in place of the acrylic binder? Thank you! I have been looking for a way to do this!
I've always used the acrylic binder but I think matte medium would probably work too. Have fun!
Beautiful double page berries painting!! ❤ In place of bonded (never heard/used it), can we use mod podge? As for watercolor ground, never heard of that either lol. Would clear gesso work here? I’m trying to avoid buying too many new products just to try 😊tfs!! PS: I’ve got lots of dictionary, botanical etc books I plan to use in junk journal projects. I like drawing/painting (been a while!) and combining that into JJ would be fun. Thank you again, your paintings are fabulous!!!
Thank you! I've always used Bindex to stick my pages but I'm sure other adhesives suitable for paper would work. Sorry I've never used mod podge and not sure what it is! Because watercolour ground is designed for watercolours I tend to use that. Gesso also works but I personally find the surface a bit too slippery with Gesso compared to the ground. I'm all for trying things with materials you' already have, so I'd defiantly give it a go with what you've got. Have fun!

Ah, teasels, loose ones too ! Our favourites. have a great weekend in the Dales.
Thanks Andrew. As you know teasels & cow parsley are both favourites of mine! I hope your Teasel painting is still giving you pleasure 🎨
Look at it everyday Ingrid, never tire of it
this is so cute, Love the painting ☺☺
Thank you!
Beautiful painting, such gorgeous colours and a really soft feel to the picture. I absolutely love it! Thankyou for sharing.
@Paintspotsandpaper thank you that's so kind of you 😊
Inspirational
@nypc_junkiemessnan2190 thank you!
The berries are gorgeous
Thank you! 😊
Can you graduate any watercolour of Daniel smith by using the ink and the granulating medium?
I use it with both my Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton watercolours
Love this technique! ❤
I do too, it's very effective 😊
Can I stamp over that?
Those sketches look gorgeous !❤
All of these ideas look amazing! I’m sure whatever you decide to do will be majestic
Thank you!
The texture you get with the acrylic ink and medium is the same as one may get when doing lithographs on zinc plates with watered down lithographic tusche. They call it peau de crapaud.
Oh wow that's interesting, thanks. I don't really know anything about lithographs but it sounds like I'd like them!
Ingrid, I really enjoyed your presentation. I've been experimenting formulating my own granulates, and have had some success. I'm now playing with super granulation. That's a bit trickier. Your presentation was helpful.
Thank you, I'm pleased you've found it useful. Have fun with super granulation!
You piqued my interest! Been looking for more of a dark teal..came close mixing just a touch of PG 7 & PG15…but mixing it, I just couldn’t get it dark enough..but still having that Phthalo glow. Going to try a small tube, thank you!
H..h..h..how j…just HOW!,!,
❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Ingrid thank you for your latest email I loved looking through your sketchbook you have given me inspiration to start one of my own so I'm looking forward to planning that. It's great to hear that your work is being exhibited I'm looking forward to my brother and sister in laws visit from Scotland in the summer when I plan to take them to Staunton Harold to see your exhibits. King Regards Viv x
Hi Viv, I'm so pleased you're inspired to start a sketchbook I think you'll love using one! Especially for your beautiful drawings! It's lovey you're going to visit Staunton Harold with your relatives in the summer, its such a beautiful setting.
Thank you for the helpful video!
I'm pleased you've enjoyed it 🖌
Very inspiring - thank you for sharing
Thank you! I'm so pleased you enjoyed it 😊
Gorgeous tour, your skies are stunning 😊😊
Thank you! 😊
I enjoyed this very much - I love the mix of painting and sketching and can see how the two together provide a beautiful and informative reference.
Thank you! I do enjoy using my sketchbooks for planning, sketching & painting together. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Love the landscapes and the sketchbook Ingrid, very nice, have a lovely Christmas and New Year, see you in January. Andrew. 😊
Hello! Thanks Andrew as you know I love keeping sketchbooks! Look forward to hopefully seeing you in 2024! Have a lovely Christmas 🎄
Looks lovely!
Thank you! 🎨😊
Loved watching this painting unfold, thank you
Thank you! I'm really pleased you've found it interesting 🎨
I’m watching in storm Domingo after Ciarán, in the Pyrenees. Great tutorial, I have a couple of these but more Schmincke granulating colours. I have Moon Glow and the Primatek set is in my basket! Great techniques, I don’t think I swatched mine big enough. Thanks. Jo in France 🇫🇷
Granulating colours are great fun aren't they! Hope the storm doesn't cause any damage
I would like to a get the palette. What brand is it.
Hi I've had it for years, I'm really sorry I can't remember what brand it is 😊
@@IngridHillArt is ok. There are many to look at. Meeden ones are similar. It just looks like yours might come with a lid for cover and mixing.
Very interesting but could be better nearer the paper focus on the granulating painting
Is the acrylic binder the same as glue?
Yes, I think any waterproof paper glue would probably work. 🎨
@@IngridHillArt Thanks.
Very interesting, impressive. May I ask why you needed to do the translucent layer before the white covering layer. Could you not have started with the white. Thanks very much
Thanks Chris, yes the white could have been done first. I often like to use a transparent layer first to make sure everything has had a thin layer but without hiding the book page. I then can add as much or little of the white to cover areas as I'd like to, without leaving any sections unprepared. 🎨😊
@@IngridHillArt thanks very much, and for such a speedy response. I am definitely going to experiment.
@chrishayes8287 you're welcome, hope you have fun! 🎨
Thank you for this fantastic tutorial. Congratulations you paint with grace❤
Thank you! I'm so pleased you enjoyed it 🎨😊
Absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you! 🎨😊
Makes me think about taking a large piece of canson xl and adding several different pages to it, treating it with the watercolor ground (a pot came with my DS split primary set and I’ve never used it) and cutting the page down after I’ve done the whole thing.
That sounds like a great idea, have fun!
Thank you so much for sharing this idea. Could you explain the difference between using the watercolour ground and a clear gesso? Would clear gesso work the same way?
Hi, Although Gesso does work, I tend to prefer using the watercolour ground for this sort of painting. The ground has a slightly rough surface, which I find helps washes key to. Whereas I find Gesso smoother, so the paint slips more on the surface. I use Gesso or watercolour moulding paste with a palette knife when I want to create a textured surface.🎨
@@IngridHillArt Thank you so much for explaining. I really appreciate it.
Can you just tell us you've been using these colours a lot lately a few more times?😂😂😂
🤣😂
Was wondering why you used acrylic paint under the watercolor ground?
Hi I used an acrylic binder to stick the book page down any paper glue would work as long as it becomes permanent when dry.
@@IngridHillArt Thank you!
@@IngridHillArt Do you have a RUclips video of how you painted those berries? I simply cannot get them out of my head! So beautiful!
@sherryroberts7716 hi Sherry, thank you! I'm so pleased you like it so much! I'm sorry, I didn't video painting the berries, I may do a similar one and film when I get a chance 🎨
@@IngridHillArt WAITING WITH BAITED BREATH!! Soon, I hope!!!
That painting spread of the berries is to die for!! SO BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you ! That's so nice of you 😊
I also had no clue about watercolor ground. Thank you for being thorough. Also love hour work.
Thank you so much!
Brilliant! I'm so glad RUclips showed your channel, for I simply love your art style. RUclips needs more artists and far less swatching.
Thank you
Thank you for sharing!
You're welcome I'm pleased you enjoyed it
Ohhhh, me love!!!!!!!
Thank you!
So original! Love it!
Thank you so much
So lovely!❤
LOVE your enthusiasm page!!
Thank you! I'm hoping to use this as the reference for a painting, I'm so pleased you like it 🎨

This is a fantastic tutorial, super helpful!
Thanks I'm so pleased you've enjoyed it and found it interesting. I hope you have fun trying the technique, let me know how you get on!
Is the ground glue?
Hi Marilyn it's not really a glue but a special medium to allow watercolour to be used on a variety of surfaces.
