While our American cousins to our south frequently endure tornados and hurricanes, such strong storms are a rare occurrence in Canada. This storm on May 21, 2022 toppled four major transmission towers and affected more than a half million people on two hydro grids in one way or another. While my power was out for 3 days, many, even as this was videoed, still have not regained power. Thankfully,...

Things started slowly but grew considerably as we were leaving around 11:30 am. Many of the thousands of trucks were squeezed out of the downtown core by other convoy truckers who brought traffic to a standstill.

Greetings from America! Thank you for sharing this video of Morin Heights and where Le Studio once stood. Such a great musical history there in that idyllic place. Such a shame it went through such abuse over the years after the last musical projects had been there. Why would such a place become a derelict? One would think it would have been preserved. A wealth of music creation went through those doors. Thanks again. Cheers

I would have that it would have been preserved as well given its iconic history and symbolism. I'm not sure why it wasn't but it doesn't reflect well on its gatekeepers. Thanks for your feedback Paul. Very much appreciated.

First it the senseless vandalism to the building and then some useless person or persons committed arson to the building and destroyed it! Then, later on they took the bulldozer to the to the site to clean it up. The RUSH album memorials were placed there as reminders that recorded some of the best albums at Le Studio. It look like those are not even sacred as some theft has happened since they were placed there.

I paid a return visit to Le Studio last summer. There was nothing left of the original place except a few vandalized memorials to their albums. It's a shame really when you think of the history that was made there. As a metal detectorist, I'm a huge fan of protecting history and this place should have, at the very least, been memorialized as a shrine to both the artist and the Studio itself which, in its day was state of the art. It's quite sad, if not maddening that no one had to good sense to recognize the historical significance of this place.

Absolutely! I revisited this site a few months back. The property is now owned by private interests and it appears to have fallen into disuse. Some of the Rush memorabilia that had been cast into the concrete steps by fans has been removed by the owners as it were constantly being vandalized or stolen. An ignominious end to a legendary and musically historical property!

Richard Baxter had the original model that Andrie Perry had made for him before the actual studio was built and I had heard the same thing that they wanted to build a new one modeled after the second studio but the costs of trying to build it again in today's world would cost an enormous amount of money and I would bet that the city owns the property now after they demolished it because the roof trusses broke from the weight of the snow and who knows if Richard Baxter was able to pay any property taxes on it when he was trying to fix the place so I'm sure the city has taken the property over and will either try to sell it or it will just remain as a property not being used .

it was rather inevitable le studio would go 'out of style', so-called, when the music business got exploited so much in the early 80s because there was an artistic void then, so that's why Bush gov. instilled Madonna, who we know now was one 'far relation' of them, and it was all designed to begin the nefarious Hollywood scene. employing drum machines and the latest technological games then was also what changed everything so much, which is partly why Bil Gates was used by them for. most people right now who are normal, have no idea how lucky that thigs are at least back to how they were.

Interesting to see the site again. Though this guy knows nothing about Rush. Neil never played the drums on the lake. There was a famous photo of him with his kit taken on the lake for a Tama and campaign. Many have silk banners of it. Le Studio was the temple of sound. So sad that this historic place, and Neil, are both gone. But they both live on in our memories, and you can still hear LeStudio in the recordings. Such a distinctive sound. My optimism wears devastatingly thin for the sincerity of Richard Baxter, I truly hoped his plan to rebuild Le Studio was actually what it seemed, but considering he seems focussed on selling chunks of the old building and the fact that even the monuments to the studios old achievements now lie vandalised and essentially forgotten I just can't believe anything will happen to the site other than condos. A deteriorating treasure for sure!

    • @peteloomis8456

@@skyrocketautomotiveThe city bull dozed it because the roof trusses broke from all the snow they get each winter . They average 8ft of snow each winter and being it sat for years with no heat on or anyone shoveling the roofs off it collapsed and the city condemned it and deemed it unsafe . There were videos of Richard Baxter shoveling off the roofs some years back and he truly was making some progress on fixing the place back up but not enough people were helping to contribute not only working on it but not enough money was coming in to buy the needed materials to fix it and without big investors being involved it failed because of lack of funds . There is a picture of Rush in the recording side of the studio with Neals drum kit facing the windows with the lake behind it but if you look close its winter time and someone had slid the sliding door open a little to let fresh air in probably because at the time all of the band members were smokers but if you look closely at the top of that sliding door the snow is almost at the top of that door so at a minimum of 6ft high the snow was . There used to be cabins on the other side of the lake that artists and band member would stay in and they would take a row boat back across the lake to get to the studio . The guy who made this video mentions the floating dock that Neil peart had his drum kit on that someone took pictures of and those pictures were used as a promotional picture of him on that floating dock playing the drums and those were made into big banners that only the Tama drum dealers could get and had them hanging in their drum shops . These are going for big money now especially ones that are in good shape and you can find them at times on eBay for sale looking under Rush Memorabilia. Before the studio got bull dozed Richard Baxter had found what very well could have been the same floating dock and had towed it back to the studio by water and it looked like the same dock so it's either out there on the lake or someone hauled it off the lake . The song by Rush test for echo the sounds of the lapping water were recorded using a cassette tape recorder to retrieve those sounds that ultimately got recorded on the album . The lake is named lake Perry after Andrie Perry who built the first LEstudio that burned down the built the second one after . He made his money from recording and engineering music and songs for John Lennon of the Beatles some years before he was murdered . After years the studio was loosing money and they started selling stuff from it to try and keep it open but eventually it went up for sale and Andrie moved on and the studio sat for years with nobody interested in buying it for the couple million that it was going for and the price kept dropping but nobody would buy it and that's when people started breaking into it and vandalizing it. It was a state of the art recording studio that could also do video commercials and rock videos and it had its own fully stocked kitchen and a game room with a pool table and pinball machines and of course the volleyball court in the back that Rush mentioned that they after a day of recording during the warm months they would go outside and play volleyball late at night with the lights on. Andrie Perry gave Richard Baxter the rights to the studio being he knew Richard for many years so Richard could try to get it fixed up and to open it back up to not only use it as a museum but also to teach music theory and recording techniques and engineering but unfortunately when the roof collapsed that was the demise of the studio ending it's chances of ever being fixed and opened up again. If I remember correctly I think the price of the studio dropped to 350,000 years ago back before it was broke into and in really good shape yet and it's hard to imagine that someone with money didn't buy the place to turn it into their home because it was really beautiful the way it was laid out with the lake behind it .

Its a real shame how dismissively people will vandalize, loot, burn down places with such a rich history. Ive read about that place off and on over the years. I became interested many years aho when I noticed the Rush "Tom Sawyer" video and the April Wine "I like to Rock" video are quite obviously filmed in the same room. Drum kits in the same location. Same beautiful view out the large glass windows. That peaked my interest in that it became clear they were in an actual studio as apposed to a set made to look like a studio. I wont rattle off a lot of the history of who all recorded there as im sure you know more about the place since you 1st discovered it. But needless to say, that place should have been a protected landmark, if not a museum or remained an active studio or all 3. To me such places are amazing because billions of people have heard the same music that came from studios such as this. The list of studios that have a similar history is pretty small. We all know about Abbey Road where the Beatles created some of the biggest albums of all time. But the Beatles only made people like you and me aware of its existance. Musicians the world over have recorded at Abbey Road and again, the list of credentials is staggering. Then there was Sound City in Los Angeles. Again, some of the biggest albums of all time were produced there. If someone were to make a list of famous groups, huge albums or even individual songs that went big from Le Studio, Abbey Road and Sound City in multiple genres, you cant help but wonder how diff the music world may have sounded had they never existed. Again, these are sounds, beats, melodies, lyrics known around the world. Shared by people of all dif races, religions, ethnicities. Fair to say these studios are a unifying force in that they help keep us all connected to eachother. Sad to see such a place fall into disrepair and then wiped away as though it were never there.

Wonderful comments Gary. I only became aware of it through word of mouth while metal detecting in the area. When I got home and researched it more I was stunned by how historical this place was and indeed it should have been preserved as a cultural and musical heritage site.

AIR Studios Monserrat is another iconic place in shambles. Hurricane Hugo did a ton of damage and it’s been basically rotting for 30+ years. Impressive list of musicians recorded there as well. Rush did just a little there and The Police and later Sting some incredible albums.

good video, but you could've learned a bit about RUSH before filming

Thanks Rick. This was a spur of the moment video. I was metal detecting nearby some 100 km away from home and decided to go there to do some metal detecting after a local suggested it. I knew nothing about the place and did not go there with the intent of making a video about Le Studio. It was only after getting home and editing the video that I learned about its history. I appreciate the comment but understand that it was not made with Le Studio in mind. If I had actually found something relevant there metal detecting that is what I would have filmed. Appreciate your comments anyway. All the best.

@@jdmensing Thanks for the feedback jdm. I've had more than one comment, some which were more attack than commentary, which I removed about how I should have learned more about RUSH "before" making the video. Everything I learned about RUSH was after the fact and used in my description under the video after having made the vid. I went to that site with the intention of metal detecting and not to make a RUSH vid but felt some might find it interesting from an historical view of the site. Perhaps I was being overly sensitive and for that I apologize.

I'm not 100% sure but I have heard rumblings about a group trying to raise funds to rebuild it.
