Adventures with Jay-Dee
Канада
Добавлен 10 мар 2011
I am passionately in love with living my life to the fullest, and I always want to be able to experience new adventures and learn new things. I enjoy change; I like to push myself out of my comfort zones. My passions are photography, hiking, cycling, downhill skiing, reading, listening to music, watching great cinema, and spending time with friends.
The phrase I would use to describe myself is "an autodidactic individual who is a gregarious recluse".
I currently live in Ottawa, Ontario, where I spend my time doing just about anything I want to do.

Study in Black Light
Просмотров 292 месяца назад
Tuesday, August 6, 2024 1:46 Minutes Uranium glass was an inexpensive, machine-made glassware that was popular during the Great Depression. One of its properties was the lime-green colour, which was created by the addition of uranium oxide during the manufacture process. Because of the uranium oxide, the glass fluoresces under ultraviolet lighting. I used this property to create a series of pho...

Aylmer Hydro Ruins Spring (2024)
Просмотров 295 месяцев назад
Wednesday, May 16, 2024 4:02 Minutes There have been discussions between the province of Québec and the city of Aylmer to remove the old Aylmer hydro ruins. The province feels that it is a safety risk for boaters and the city feels it should stay as a piece of heritage. This dam was built around 1895 to supply electricity to the area and stopped operation in the late 1940s. The dam is slowly cr...
Solar Eclipse - The View From My Window

Monday, April 8, 2024 1:54 Minutes This was an experiment - I wanted to see the effect of the solar eclipse rather than the actual eclipse, and I also wanted to experiment with time lapse photography. Thursday, September 7, 2023 4:11 Minutes My best friend, and partner, loves boats and sailing, and in December 2019 she purchased a used dinghy sailboat, and then spent about a year rebuilding her. Because it was a dinghy, my friend decided to call it Ringy ... as in Ringy Dinghy. My friend, her wife and I had some fun adventures on Ringy. But all good things come to an end, and she sold Ringy ...

Monday, August 14, 2023 3:55 Minutes The "High Bench" was a higher than normal bench next to the bicycle path near where I live. I liked this bench because it had a nice view, it was in the shade, and it was high enough that when I sat on it, I could swing my feet like a little kid. It was a nice place to stop during a walk or bicycle ride. I decided to take at least one photo a month for one y...

Very cool
Thank you for sharing. These little creatures are so misunderstood and abused in comparison to pretty much any other type of animal on Earth. They are just as (if not more) important to the survival of our planet than any other creature.
Where was this?

What a lovely clip. Thank you so much for posting it.
@@mrmcku Thank you Martin. That’s really nice to know. With appreciation … Jay-Dee
It is beautiful

@@deniseelles4545 Thank you Denise … very much appreciated.
Why does it have three guard rails?
Hi Andrew ... to be quite honest, I don't know. I'm not a big train buff -- I'm interested in old or abandoned things. Sorry I can't answer your question. You may want to try asking someone at the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario -- the tracks that the museum are located were the same tracks that crossed the bridge. They web site is rmeo.org . Hope this helps your curiosity.
@@AdventuresWithJayDee thanks! Actually wondered if they used it for a small gauge at some point or something.
How are butterflies not from phylum Arthropoda?
OOPS! Sorry & thanks. I enjoy insects but I'm obviously not an entomologist. Thanks for pointing this out ... text has been corrected. With appreciation ... Jay-Dee
Relaxing but you got a typo in the thumbnail
OOPS! Thanks for catching that and letting me know. Now corrected.
Nicely done video Jay-Dee. Good combination of video and stills. Phil
Thanks Phil.
Awesome Jay-Dee!
Thanks Linda ... appreciate the feedback.
it is at 4:50 in video
Noted.
This is the lake that Michael Perry's cottage is on. The little brown cottage with the big rock is Serenity.
Was this Michael Perry’s cottage serenity on the lake?
I’m sorry … I don’t know. I stayed there for a week’s vacation but had no idea about who lived there. I picked the location because it was a small, quiet lake. Great question, though.
Sorry for all the questions, I may book it but there are no comments, just checking up trying to get more info, thanks.
No apologies necessary. If you go there, I hope you enjoy the time.
COOL
Thanks for subscribing & the feedback.
Choo Choo I'm on a train
All aboard!
Anyone know how the "guard locks" works? It appears just to be one set of doors. What does it "guard" against and how is it used during the locking process?
There is a good explanation of a guard lock on Wikipedia at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control_lock
I like that last shot of you on the blue bike!
Thanks. That wasn’t me. That was a close friend who likes to clown around. There was a metal bike cutout and she pretended to ride it while I took the photo.
They need to make this a commuter rail too
That would be a neat idea … I’d certainly love to ride those rails, even at the slow speed it uses.
What a peaceful video, thanks for sharing it.
Thank you.
thanks from 62 FWD
You are very welcome ... hope you enjoyed the video. It was the first ice race I ever attended and you drivers were awesome.
I also took a lot of still images … enjoy … flic.kr/p/2naUbuD

Beautiful work :)
That was a fun day :)
I caught that train at the same path. the crossing worked though
Hi Matt & thanks for commenting on this. By coincidence, the day I was there, there was also a CN work crew who were working on the crossing. The crossing signal was turned off for both the hiking path and the crossing at the road.
Thats very cool. I caught that train at nepean junction. it did some wierd stuff. check it out: ruclips.net/video/zfEptCbEjpk/видео.html
Hey people, go there, no matter the season.....just stop and take your time and shut off your cell phone, trust me you WILL feel in your happy place.
What time of day did it go by at? I'm pretty sure that's the same train that passes through McCarthy woods every Wednesday.
Hi. This train typically goes across Woodruffe Avenue in the 10:00 am time range, but it can be later or earlier as it doesn’t compete with other rail traffic on the line. I’d hazard a guess that it would pass through McCarthy Woods around 9:30 am on Wednesdays. It doesn’t move fast … the top speed is limited to 25mph, and once it crosses Corkstown Road in the west end, it can only travel a maximum speed of 5mph. (I suspect that they do not want whatever is in the tank cars to spill!) And thanks for the question … you’ve help me trace the train back further east from Woodruffe Avenue. Take care.
@@AdventuresWithJayDee Wow.. A lot of info. thanks a lot for the help!

Ditto on the congrats.
Nice!
Great job on the video....It look like a good time was had by all
o one more thing....Have you seen my 2 atv vids?
+Jesse Cook Yes & no ... I looked at bits and pieces of them. They are quite long and I don't really have a lot of time to view long RUclips videos. My experience has been that people seem to like these types of videos when they are in the 5 to 6 minutes time range. Not to mention that I have a short attention span.
+Jay-Dee Purdie I did not really want to make them that long I just have a hard time cutting stuff out or knowing what to put in and what not to put in....My last atv vid I was able to make it an hour long instead of an hour and a half
+Jesse Cook Well, it is always a tough call on the decision of what to keep and what to chuck when it comes to photos and videos. I've been doing still photography for what seems like eons, and I tend to be extremely critical of my shots. I can easily go out and take several hundred shots and then come home and keep 3 or 4, and delete the rest. I've just applied the same philosophy to video. I posted a video recently titled "WindSisters 2016 International Female Ride Day" for my motorcycle group, and I had close to 300 photos and about 3 hours of video. The final result is about 5 minutes long. I find if these things are too long, people just move on.
+Jay-Dee Purdie Well about 20 years ago my parents bought a Motophoto which is a photo store where we developed and processed pictures from anyone that brought in a roll of film....I worked there for the hole 10 years that my parents owned it....So over that 10 years.....I got in to photography....So I guess you can say I'm an amateur photographer....The last 10 years I have not really taken that many photos & now i'm getting into taking vids of my atv rides....So I was all so extremely picky on my photographs....It was all way's hard to know which ones to keep....I am the type of guy that always pushes himself to make things better....I'm still learning about editing videos as I don't know much about it....But I think it's time to upgrade from GoPro Studio editing software to a different video editing software....So I can so more
great job on the time lapse video
+Jesse Cook Thanks Jess. Always appreciate the feedback. This was my first time-lapse and my second video. WOW! What a learning curve.
+Jay-Dee Purdie that's a type of video I haven't tried yet
+Jesse Cook Well, in all honesty, it isn't a time-lapse video, but a series of still images turned into a time-lapse via the iMovie software. I set my camera & tripod up on the roof of my condo and had it take a photo of the moon every minute, and then I just added them as a bunch of stills and saved them as a video.
+Jay-Dee Purdie Ok I understand
Grate job on the vid
+Jesse Cook Thanks ... appreciate the feedback. I just started learning about video - taking them is a snap after a lifetime of photography, but editing the videos ... WOW ... that's a challenge!
+Jay-Dee Purdie Yes the editing a video takes a little getting used to the....But as you know taking a good video & if you can do a really good editing job it will turn your good video into an excellent video....So what video editing software are you using? When you add words, titles & the credits at the end of the video do you use a separate program to make those and then add them with your video editing software? or do you use the video editing software?
+Jesse Cook Hi Jesse ... well first of all I should explain that I did not spend a lot of time on this video ... it was a joke that I shared with the motorcycle group I belong to. We were chatting about the challenges of slow speed riding and it occurred to me that every time I ride in or our of my condo garage, I ride a slow-speed obstacle course. Anyway ... as for software, it is a mix-n-match affair depending on what I want and what the source of the video is. For a GoPro video, I use GoPro Studio as a starting point to "carve out" the clips of the full video that I want to use. Then I open these clips in PhotoShop CC and do a fine edit of them there, sometimes including the audio. To put a final video together I may use either iMovie or FotoMagico. If it is pretty much all video, I use iMovie, and if there is a large mix of video and stills, or just stills, I use FotoMagico. As for titles, I sometimes use images I create in PhotoShop, or I use the title options in FotoMagico or iMovie ... depends on what result I'm looking for.
+Jay-Dee Purdie Cool...Thanks....Right now I just use the GoPro Studio....I find it's not so good for the title....I heard Adobe has a pretty good video editing program....I can't remember what it's called at the moment....I heard it can handled a raw GoPro video
+Jesse Cook The Adobe video editing program is called Premium Pro and you can pay the monthly subscription fee of $19.99US/month or a one-time charge of hundreds of dollars. I've used it in a lab and it is really neat and powerful, but it is a lot of software and a high learning curve, unless you plan to really get into video editing. Are you on Windows or Mac? I used to be on Windows and flipped to Mac about a year ago. All the Adobe software works on either platform, but a lot of other photo/video editing is platform specific. I pay the monthly subscription fee for Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. I'm waiting to see how into video I plan to get before I invest in Premium Pro. Do you have an iPad? Adobe has a lot of free software for video editing on the iPad. There is a video called "Life on a Beach - January 2016" that I published a few months ago. The whole thing was created and edited with the various pieces of the Adobe iPad free software.
wow that is a beautiful ride every way you look at it <3
What a nice looking bike and a fine day out :)
Wow what a peaceful scene :)
