Merely Players is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit theatre company that has been celebrating imagination and the creative spirt and providing quality entertainment to the community of Durango and the surrounding area for the past 28 years.

The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 requires some special lighting to heighten the mystery. We pushed our little blackbox theatre's lighting system to the max in order to make this mysterious old mansion come to life.

The script calls for a variety of specific props and special effects. All of the guns and knives were 3D printed to keep them lightweight and completely safe. Props created specifically for the show added to the intrigue and surprise.

JoAnn Nevils shows off some of her work on the show. Several items are vintage. JoAnn had to adapt and tailor pieces to fit the actors and the show's needs.

We were not able to actually perform our production of the show. But here's a look backstage of all of the ins and outs of the complex set.

When Merely Players decided to create this virtual Christmas card for 2021, we asked those involved with our company if they wanted to be a part of it. The artists who volunteered were each given some lines from a traditional carol and told that they could interpret it however they wished without singing.
