Owen do you have a copy of the complete sound rushes for the Kenneth Williams interview (unedited) ? If you do could you put them on line. Many thanks.
“Put on a face to meet the faces that you meet - T S Eliot
thank you
A wonderful, thoughtful interview, with the clips completely at odds with it!
Summons up the acting profession: classy actor before, does Carry On's...and done. Profession all about imagination has none.
This interview ranks on a par with that of Mavis Nicholson's in getting KW to talk 'normally' rather than simple reeling off polished anecdotes. Obviously he felt comfortable with and respected both interviewers.
Fascinating Man. RIP Kenneth.
There is an intellectual here struggling to get out. His frustration at being denied a formal academic education is clear. The comedy for which he is principally remembered was never quite enough. He was always thirsting for more.
very interesting, thank you for posting.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams............................................
Love Tessessee Williams! Thanks for sharing.
I'm simply amazed by Kenneth's in-depth understanding of Christianity. I came here for a bit of fun, suddenly I found myself listening to a very good honest and inspiring sermon.
Despite his public persona and private proclivities he was a devout Christian.
I love listening to Kenneth Williams. He is so interesting.
Very good interview. Kenneth sounds like he was in a good place that day.
Astonishingly intelligent and perceptive man as well as tremendously funny.
''Find a face to meet the face that you must meet''. A very insightful interview. I don't think I've ever heard him more genuinely conversational and less 'performery', than in this interview. Thank you so much.
Indeed. Rare. He would often recite the same script, this however, seems quite genuine and relaxed. Unthreatened.
A great interview. The nearest I think you might get to the real Kenneth Williams. As complex a character as Barry Humphries.Geniuses really.
Williams suffered deeply by his shame. Humphries does not. Sadly, I never saw Williams on stage. I've always felt that we would have been friends in a different time. I have friends who are quite like him, and I have similar traits. This interview isn't nearly as 'cut and paste' as so many of Williams' interviews seemed to have been. It was as though, he had just one narrative that he re-spewed over and over. Mr Spencer-Thomas managed to get a more original version of it. Lovely to hear.
I think you will get nearer via his published diaries, but even then, the editing and omissions forced by law, ensure that we do not get the full Kenneth.
Excellent.
Gosh this sounds just like him. Can we have more please?
Its is Kenneth
A great interview, conducted with honesty and respect. Thank you very much for sharing this.
