I'm also offering consolation for your spirit that may be stinging from the ignorant comments from the "True Believers" who still think that climate change is a hoax. They need to get out of their. political bubbles and read some more scientific information. I'm terrified that they will "wake up" when it is too late. I won't use the phrase "kill the planet" because that's not the case. I saw Buckminster Fuller many years ago (50+ years) and. he responded to a question about humans destroying the planet back then. He said that humans would not destroy the planet and that the planet is homeostatic. He said instead that humans would destroy the "habitable for humans" aspect of the planet. When humans are gone the planet will be just fine.

i'm in eastern KY, and i know we would get wind storms and like, the remnants of hurricanes in the past. but i don't ever recall a hurricane coming clear up to the KY / TN border like this. it knocked power out here for almost a week, but we had a generator so it wasn't too bad. less severe flooding and some downed trees. but what i really fear is landslides. its definitely climate change though. unfortunately, i think a lot of people think its signs from god that the end times are near. it's really concerning though. these are places that did not traditionally have to worry about hurricanes, it wasn't uncommon for people on the coast in NC to fall back to the mountains to evacuate, so, i think it is definitely a sign of the times. places that were once safe from these types of things, are no longer safe. i'm already starting to prepare more, as best i can. and have a plan to evacuate if it starts raining too much, just in case the mountain starts falling apart or the road gets blocked or washed out. i knew these things would happen on occasion here. but not this often. it's definitely a good idea to be aware and try to prepare though, as best we can. we were lucky to have pretty much everything we needed to survive without power for a week or longer, now i'm thinking about ham radios and having a plan for escaping if things get too sketchy. god bless y'all, i hope things get better and you can hang on

As a local. Flooding has always known to be a problem (floods of 1916, 1977, 2004). My family goes back 5 generations here in the Swannanoa River Valley. It floods from time to time. Even biblical. People act shocked, but the region is a temperate rain forest. Its a lack of city development, planning and naive thinking the region will never flood. The city needs to develop for the long term. Fixing everything to the way it was will only be a bandaid

Yes honey. We get hurricanes in the mountains. It’s rare but they are documented going back over 100 years. We get mudslides, tornadoes, all the weather except for tsunamis and sandstorms.
