The Board Game Guy's Guide to Cutting Costs While Still Growing Your Collection
I can't thank you enough for this tutorial! I recently bought a second hand copy of the game, after searching for it for months- but only realised afterwards that my copy, and its instructions were in Spanish! After some panicking, and unproductive google translate attempts- this video has really helped! I now can't wait to play! Thanks so much again 😊
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy playing the game!
@@TheBoardGameGuy You are very welcome! And you really were a tremendous help :) I'll be sure to watch again!
Good video! I received my ALL-IN box a few weeks ago and it looks great. I can't wait to start playing with my boardgame group.
Just got the game
I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching.
Thank you very much for this video; it's the only one i've come across that discusses the "edge cases", which I have found occur all the time and aren't clarified in the rulebook! I love GF9 games, but this one definitely has the most holes in the rules. I would really appreciate if they could correct any wording errors or gaps in the rules in the PDF version of the rulebook they provide on their website - I'd be happy to print it off myself to add to the box. Otherwise, this game is great for a fun evening with other Aliens nerds and is dripping with the source material theme (like all of the other GF9 games). I'd love a part 3 video that discusses the expansions and the other tid bits not discussed in this video. Cheers!
Thanks for watching. Glad it helped. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the expansions, so I can't do a tutorial for them.
Thank you so much, that was a great explanation.
Thanks for watching
For the ultimate theme night start with a game of Kill Dr Lucky, then a game of Clue and finish with a game of Mysterium. :)
These are great vids!
Thanks for watching!
What's going on with your sound track?
The fire was louder than I expected it to be. I really should get a lav mic to record sound separate from video.
Crackling fire was a nice touch
Great to see more of your knowledge being shared, Steve.
Glad you enjoyed it
I dunno. How can you leave Dead of Winter off this list?
Considering I gave my copy away, I didn't think it made my personal top 10. I like it, don't get me wrong, just not more than the ones I included.
TO give Dead of Winter its due, there are a lot of the Walking Dead board games out there, and DoW is better at being the Walking Dead than any of them!
I'm gonna check out Tokyo Highway, never heard of it
Check out my earlier video for it ruclips.net/video/s8cCUCjSraw/видео.html
I'm upset I hadn't gotten into boardgaming yet when this Crowdfunded. So jealous!!
Well, the bad news is you missed the campaign for this game, but the good news is you have a whole world of awesome games to discover before you!
I'm more of a standee person -- if only because they fold flatter for storage and because minifigs tend to disappear when our kids find them... 🙂 Although those minifigs are sweet.
Gaming with children has added challenges!
Careful calling them meeples! You want to get sued!? :D
No such thing as bad publicity!
This game has one of the worst - THE WORST - manuals in any board game I've played. Ask yourselves how many Motion Tracker cards to draw each round in a 4-player game (hint: it's *not* 4, despite the rules very clearly stating "Starting with the highest ranking player, each player in turn draws and resolves a Motion Tracker card."). Also, have a think about what happens if a blip comes into line-of-sight during the player characters' turn (hint: The rules suggest the blip flips, resolves into one alien or a swarm, then immediately moves and attacks as though in the alien activation step - we believe this is simply poorly written and in fact the blip should flip, resolve and remain static until the Activate Aliens step). Or here's a simple one: How many characters are in play in each game (hint: this is never mentioned - I think we're supposed to just assume that all of them are in play?). Also - "highest ranking player" is only useful if there is a highest ranking player, but several times in our game we had two Lts. Unless all characters are ranked (they are not) it's not always possible to determine rank. Don't get me wrong - great fun to play and well aligned thematically to the movies. But, if you wish to play this game, be prepared to interpret and agree on house rules a LOT, because you simply cannot rely on the manual to tell you how to play this game.
Thank you for the explanation!
I hope it was helpful!
Hello.I have a small question.When shooting a flamethrower and a pistol.Yes.On the card it says.Flamethrower.Hit on slide and less and pistol.On 3 and less.Should I move.Every time I fire a flamethrower or a pistol.wheel aim? they don't write anything in the rules
Great video. Are you going to do one for Carnival of Chaos?
I backed the kickstarter, so I might.
Yes, well done
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
3:36 Don’t forget you can also trade “Get Out of Jail Free” cards as well.
Just picked this up for £11, which I hope was a bargain. I'll certainly head to BGG to check on the rules , especially at solo mode. Do you think its worth playing with one character then progressing to 3 as the designer suggests ? Pleased to find your channel
This was super helpful! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Took me till tonight over 2 years after getting game to play it as building aliens is a nightmare , enjoyed game but felt i was getting something wrong
I just found a video about putting magnets in the butt of the aliens. I think I’m gonna do that. That tail is so delicate.
what happens if a player slams another player's inoperable car? Is it slam rules as normal?
It is treated as a normal slam. If the inoperable car is slammed into an impassable obstacle or off the road as a result, it is destroyed.
Thank
Thanks for this tutorial!
Thanks for watching!
Now, how about an updated version based on the revised rules:?
I don't have a copy of the revised game, so I can't do an updated video.
@@TheBoardGameGuy ohhhh, I can’t let you off that easy! A quick google search search for the game’s title and “revised rulebook” takes you to a GaleForce9 link as well as boardgamegeek discussion with link to said document, posted Feb, ‘23.
Hello. I want to ask. In the manual it says. About cards in hand. But I know that only hicks have the ability to take cards on. And when I watched a few videos. So someone played as Ripley. And. And she. Si she put the cards in her hand, even if it is not written in the ability. Can each character have a heroic card in her hand. Or the dining room. Some. That is stated in the rules, right? Or in the overview. kkrok . That I can send out a soldier. Does it mean that every character. Can. Cards in the hand. Do I need a crow? or I'll take a card and look at it whether I want it or not
Thanks for putting together this very useful list. I'd recommend 'Panic Mansion' ('Shaky Manor') as one more good dexterity game to consider.
I'll check it out! Thanks for watching.
Not sure if you'd be up forit, but they redid the core and get away from her you B**** addon's rules and have shipped em out. I recently bought them myself :D Don't think things like Ultimate Basses needs to be updated according to the store I got them for ((they've been asked a few times already)), so that's atleast a bonus.
Great and informative walkthrough! Thanks for the work here, it's apprecciated
Glad you liked it. I'm looking forward to actually adding this one to my collection.
@@TheBoardGameGuy I picked up a copy while traveling to Japan this year and to my dismay it was one of the only Oink Games not to be bilingual at all
Noice
Thanks
Rhino super hero is a fantastic game for drunk adults or little kids hopefully not playing at the same time.
Completely factual. Thanks for watching!
Love campy horror games would love to see a solo option for this game
Are more 101's coming? Cause these are videos i can send to the people whoa rrive new at my local board game club.
There are more in the queue, and some more waiting to be edited, and even more waiting to be filmed.
thanks for putting this together
Thanks for watching!
Watching this before I play my first game - very clear, thanks. Do you play the variant rule which allows TIE fighters to destroy rebel fleet markers from an adjacent sector with a roll of a 5 or 6 (or only that the Death Star can destroy the fleet markers)?
I have not used that variant. Thanks for watching. I'm glad you found it helpful.
Well... Yeah, it's helpfull! I sure can send it to people who are entering and ask why we talk in weird terms.
In one turn I can Repair an inoperable car. Move a different car in my stack and potentially shoot with that car all in one turn? Also, you can shoot twice in one turn? Bring out a chopper and shoot with it. Move your car and shoot again? Right or wrong?
Yes to both your questions.

Hello if I have actually 6 people playing would all 6 of us be playing as heroes? No one would really want to play as a grunt. then on each turn we'd pass the play token correct?
With 6 players you each play as the hero version of your chosen character, that is correct. At least in 1st edition. They recently printed a 2nd edition of the game, and I don't know what changes may have been made to the rules.
" Klask " is olso very good🎉🎉
Is it a board game, or is it a micro sport? Either way, it IS good.
Super helpful. It definitely cleared up some of the rules I was struggling with. Thanks!
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Tremendously helpful for using the expansions. Many thanks!
Happy to share the love! Thanks for the kind words.
Damage tokens are shuffled back into the pile of available damage tokens, but Im pretty sure I remember hazard tiles go into a discard pile that is only reshuffled if necessary. Incidently, thru 12 plays we've never had to. I would also note that ONLY negative I can find in this great game is that the constant reshuffling of damage tokens gets tedious. I suppose it would be easier to use an old crown royal bag to draw tokens. However, the thing I don't like about cardboard in draw bags is that the pieces wear much quicker.
You can make costom cards, i played the game today and love it. So I'll make in photoshop costam damage token
Also you could make a chart of the damage tokens and rol a d 20
Another great breakdown. Looking forward to playing all of the new stuff soon. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Great video, played a few games so far but wanted to make sure I wasn't getting anything wrong. I got a few things wrong. ;) Quick question though. At 24:55 You said that you can use a command dice to repair a car before you give a car an activation dice and then activate the repaired car. I can't find in the rules where it says this. Just looking for clarification thanks.
That’s actually been reversed by the publishers. They said that was the case on a rules forum thread on www.boardgamegeek.com but then changed their minds. You can repair a card with a command die, and then issue a move die to it on a subsequent turn during the same round, but you can’t repair then move on the same turn. I was going off out of date information that I didn’t realize was out of date.
@@TheBoardGameGuy I suspected as much. Just wanted to make sure. I have a new group of players I'm teaching and trying to get all the rules down. Thank you for the clarification. :D
For oil slick hazards you move in a random direction determined by the direction die.
You’re absolutely right! Not sure how I missed that. Thanks for pointing it out.
No problem, loved the video!
Thanks for watching!
Great overview for the expansions! Thanks
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it.
