I continue to buy new music on CD so I can have something tangible to keep forever.
The analog audio has a certain charm to it, but in my opinion, a CD will always be better for any other purpose
Shellac is superior
Cool video. I love records though
the only special vinyl pressings are the ones that have something called superior audio quality from ONLY Analogue source - Band to Tape to Vinyl Mastered.. I'm talking about over 40 years ago. Those are certainly the Vinyl(s) that can be discussed - anywhere , anytime - Let's use the 13th Floor Elevators for example - 1st pressing MONO which is a superior mix to the Stereo version and very few were pressed and it wasn't available nation wide.. something to talk about, something to be impressed by, something RARE... the other type of vinyl to be happy about is the 45RPM disc with gem after gem , mixes, takes , versions different than found on the album, with B sides not found anywhere else.. but I agree.. today .. just to go to the Walmart and buy a format called vinyl with DIGTALLY PROCESSED MATERIAL STAMPED ONTO THE PLASTIC PVC... Nothing to be happy about. Nothing to clamour about, nothng to get excited about on 'Record Store Day"... unless you're a Moron-bot and love to pay 10x markup for something that cost them $2 to manufacture.. I'm a seller of vintage vinyl for 30 years..and I HATE Record store day. Creating 'collector' market? Disgusting happened with the Comic Book world in 1989 - Ok ok.. so Jack White went out of his way to push some 'customy' vinyl into the world.. problem is the music sucks for the most part, and again, and did he use digital tools to master?..... The so called prestige used to set apart the CD collector for the 'fidelity' and dynamic range and of course the rarity as many LPs are still not available on CD.. .. there's NOTHING wrong with a well mastered CD - and who's taking Vinyls in their car to listen to.. The Ipod is essential for that - since most Car CD players no longer operate due to planned obsolesence.... I understand why Vinyl can suck.. and the people posturing around the whole idea.. it's gotten out of context.. people are looking for a soul !
yeah im kind of too dumb to understand any of that but thanks for commenting man
Vinyl are only good for the large album artwork that you can display. For actually playing the music, you want uncompressed digital audio (i.e. basically CDs or occasionally better on some digital stores)
album art do be important tho
@@MulledBerrys yeah but you can do it for CDs too. I have some great vinyl-sized CD box sets of the later Beatles albums. Instead, most tend to skimp on CD packaging more and more and we don't even get jewel cases any more.
facts
heres the secret to vinyls... you have to be autistic to actually enjoy themj
the spectrum fears no man
Vinyl sounds great but it all depends on the equipment that you play them on and if you take care of them.
Yeah, there was a reason you don't buy the same copy you try out in the store. They degrade on each listen.
The jerky was p delish fr
vinyl is too prone to warping and scrathing/skipping. Since all of my favorite artist are from before 1960, i prefer to buy their 78 shellac records

As someone who recently got back into record collecting since I was 15 (which was like 2 years ago which doesn't sound like a lot, but it does to me, I'm 17 now), while I do collect vinyl for its novelty and the charm of the crackly and poppy sound, I really do appreciate the likes of CDs and cassettes too, and I don't think vinyl has better sound quality. And I think the prices are extortionate, considering back in the 80s you could get a new release for, what, £7 GBP? Plus, even with this I... don't really like hipsters and don't like to be associated with hipsters.
theres no beating that washed out wavy sound to a tape thats been left on the dashboard for a week tho
They are more expensive because they are not as mass produced and are higher quality than they were when they used to be the main medium you bought music on. They're not really meant for people to buy every record on any more, but for special releases. I expect many people who buy them don't actually play the vinyl. It just looks nice, but it degrades with each play. We spent the 90s replacing a lot of what we had on vinyl and tape with CD versions. I don't have any desire to go back.

@@_PuppetMaster86 what
@@lettucekisses Oh sorry. The plural of “vinyl” is either “vinyl” or “records” as in “vinyl records”. Vinyl is the material records are made of, it's like saying multiple pencils are “leads”, which is what it is made out of, so it wouldn't make sense.

The majority of physical media usage for music like post 2010 or something is pure sentimentalism/consumerism. I'll never pay for music, regardless of however independent and starving the artist is. Outside of music distribution tape can be pretty cool due to how easy it is to record to and manipulate, is pretty inexpensive and available at every thrift store in america. Also a big fan of your recording from under the bridge technique.
@@uvknhn yeah man tape is the most fun to mix and match with
Do you stream or pirate? Streaming is arguably more consumerist than purchasing physical media, especially if you're paying for a subscription.
@@AudioVision_ Pirate
@@AudioVision_ yeah streaming subscriptions are like renting a house. You are constantly paying for access, but have nothing to actually show for it if you stop. The music industry love it. They spent the 80s, 90s and 2000s getting upset about piracy, especially when the Internet made it so easy. Now they are quite happy to rake in money without actually having to provide anything other than an audio file on a server somewhere. With physical singles, they actually have to be produced and, once bought, the consumer can do what they want with them. With streaming, the record industry can just make a song vanish overnight.
@@uvknhn The only problem with that is if you want more music like that, it's not gonna happen if people aren't being paid for their work - especially small artists. Being a musician can be a job, and taking from those on an independent label (or those who do everything themselves) is honestly unethical. Of course Weezer is this mega band now, but we should support artists in our local areas so they can have a chance to make a career out of what they love. Or else, all we'll be left with is corporate bs that's rarely even creative. Compare Weezer's Blue and Pinkerton to everything which came after, and you can see why we need to support these small, creative groups as opposed to corporate bands, like what Weezer has become. If no one bought Blue, there would be no Pinkerton.
