A Mathematical Approach to Coupled Cluster Methods
In this talk, I will give an introduction to some methods used for solving many-body problems. I will introduce some relevant concepts and notation that are essential in understanding such systems. In particular, I will focus on Coupled Cluster methods, and their mathematical description. These methods have wide applications ranging from nuclear physics to quantum chemistry. Recently, there have been great advances on the mathematical description of Coupled Cluster methods. I have been working with Nadia Larsen, Simen Kvaal, Sergiy Neshveyev and Snorre Bergan on some new results on Coupled Cluster methods, and I will present these.

Quantum Error Correction from a Classical-Friendly World-View
Просмотров 74Год назад
Speaker: Hsuan-Yin Lin, Simula Abstract: Quantum error correction is the foundation for protecting quantum systems and scaling up the number of quantum devices to perform highly complex tasks. In this talk, we will give a gentle introduction to one of the well-known families of quantum error-correcting codes, the quantum stabilizer codes, which have been developed since 1990 by Shor, Laflamme, ...
Post-Quantum Signature Schemes and the Oil-and-Vinegar Problem
Просмотров 376Год назад
Speaker: Morten Øygarden, Simula UiB Abstract: Recent years have seen a huge effort in the study of post-quantum cryptography, i.e., cryptographic algorithms that cannot be broken by quantum computers. While the cryptographic research community has made great strides towards standardizing such algorithms, there is still a lot of work to be done. This is particularly the case for digital signatu...
Emergent computations for emerging technologies

Speaker: Dragana Laketic, NTNU Abstract: One of the most vibrant research communities of today is the one around materials and devices which exhibit quantum properties and effects. Such materials are investigated for their quantum information processing capabilities and, in particular, regarding quantum computing. This high risk - high gain research area opens the opportunity to make a contribu...
Quantum-Resistant Cryptography From Lattices
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Год назад
Seaker:Hans Heum, NTNU Abstract: In this talk I will answer a question left unanswered at the recent meeting in Trondheim, by showing how to build encryption schemes from lattice-based hard problems. Time permitting, I will then give a brief overview of the best known classical and quantum attacks, giving us some confidence that the problem is hard also for quantum computers. This talk builds o...
Coupled-Cluster Theory for ground- and excited eigenstates
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Год назад
Speaker: Andre Laestadius, OsloMet Abstract: In the single-reference coupled-cluster theory, by means of the exponential ansatz, the Schrödinger equation is reformulated into a polynomial system (system of nonlinear equations). The unknowns are the cluster amplitudes that may correspond to ground- or excited eigenstates of the Schrödinger operator. In addition, the coupled-cluster approach has ...
Cryptography in a (post-)quantum world
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.2 года назад
Carlos Cid, Simula UiB and Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology In this talk will discuss how developments in quantum information sciences are influencing cryptographic research and real-world deployment. A particular focus will be on the designs and security of post-quantum cryptographic algorithms - these are constructions which are expected to remain secure with the (eventual) advent ...
What’s going on at the OsloMet Quantum Hub
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.2 года назад
Speaker: Sølve Selstø and Kristian Wold, OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University Abstract: At the OsloMet Quantum Hub we want to promote “quantum awareness”. We want people outside the academic wold to know a little bit about what quantum technology and quantum physics is - and why we all should care. The so-called second quantum revolution with the emerging quantum computing technology emphasis...
Limitations of noisy quantum algorithms
Просмотров 12 тыс.2 года назад
Daniel Stilck França, ENS Lyon The impressive progress in quantum hardware of the last years has raised the interest of the quantum computing community in harvesting the computational power of such devices. However, in the absence of error correction, these devices can only reliably implement very shallow circuits or comparatively deeper circuits at the expense of a nontrivial density of errors...
Machine Learning for Variational Quantum Algorithms
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.2 года назад
Speaker: Viroshaan Uthayamoorthy Abstract: The training of the parameters of variational quantum algorithms (VQAs) is in general very challenging. We will discuss different parameter initialization heuristics and a machine learning technique to learn the patterns in optimal QAOA parameters. Using this approach, one can reduce the number of intermediary optimization runs needed to find good loca...
Quantum groups and quantum information theory
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.2 года назад
Sergiy Neshveyev, University of Oslo Abstract: Quantum groups were invented around 40 years ago, although in some form they existed since the 1930s. I’ll give a brief history of the subject and of its origins in mathematical physics, and then discuss some of its recent applications to quantum information theory.
Quantum Variational Algorithms: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.2 года назад
Jakub Mareček, Czech Technical University in Prague Abstract: There is an increasing interest in quantum algorithms for problems of integer programming and combinatorial optimization. Classical solvers for such problems employ relaxations, which replace binary variables with continuous ones, for instance in the form of higher-dimensional matrix-valued problems (semidefinite programming). Under ...
Synchronization in two-level quantum systems
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.2 года назад
Speaker: Joakim Bergli, University of Oslo Abstract: Recently, it was shown that dissipative quantum systems with three or more levels are able to synchronize to an external signal. Some researchers have stated that this is not possible for two-level systems, as those systems lack a stable limit cycle in unperturbed dynamics. We show how a quantum two-level system can be understood as containin...
Learning to measure - A new adaptive approach to extract information in algorithms for NISQ devices

Matteo A. C. Rossi, postdoctoral researcher in the PICO group at Aalto University and CTO and co-founder of Algorithmiq Many prominent quantum computing algorithms with applications in fields such as chemistry and materials science require a large number of measurements, which represents an important roadblock for future real-world use cases. In this talk I present a novel approach to tackle th...
Multireference quantum chemistry on NISQ devices
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.3 года назад
Simen Kvaal, Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo Abstract: One of the foremost contenders for useful applications of NISQ devices is quantum chemistry calculations, i.e., solutions of the molecular Schrödinger equation (SE) for a many-electron system. I will outline what quantum chemistry is, and the traditional approach to the numerical solution of the SE on the quantum computer: the u...
