How To Handle Feedback? Constructive vs Destructive Ft Amber Wallin
This is dope, love to see it
I don't know about the code switching thing. wp know black ppl code switch and they're ok with it because it means we are assimilating to them . I like how Tabitha Brown said she is not hiding her natural way of speaking to the world. You don't have to do it as even in corporate settings It is a survival strategy in the past not so much now. "black culture" is now mainstream in media and in the work spaces. WE don't have to present like he said, he came from a certain era too . If you really observe people speech and culture mixing is not a liability
I love how this dude right off the bat starts off by saying he doesn't want to exclude any black people, and in the same breath calls them African Americans. Excluding every black person on the planet except for Americans. Smh. And that less than two minutes after declaring himself an intellectual. Jesus Christ.
Dang you just described me.
Thank you
I loved this conversation. I appreciate the topic of humanizing therapists. I feel like that makes the idea of working with one more collaborative and approachable than seeking out someone with all the answers to "fix you".
We are not human beings, we are spiritual beings having a human experience 🕺🏿
Now when I say this, I don't mean eating hardly no saturated fat, I am just talking about no going overboard but can someone tell me why it seems that almost the whole black community thinks that being slim means a person has no reason to watch their saturated fat intake. It has been in the media at least since the 90s that too much saturated fat can put a person in a wheelchair from a stroke, that is if they survive, regardless of if they are not overweight. Now don't get me wrong, even if you don't eat unhealthy, if you feel like something is wrong it is still good to get it checked out because some people don't get things checked out because they figure oh they eat healthy and by the time they get it checked out, it has gone too far. Never think because you eat healthy that you can't get cancer. Again, no matter how healthy you eat, if you feel like something is wrong it is good to get it check out bc some people get cancers that don't even run in their family plus they eat healthy. So of course no matter how you eat you can get cancer and a stroke. However, how did info that has been out since the 90s miss tbe black community. If you as a person would tell someone slim tbat they don't need to worry about eating an overload of saturated fat, tbat is some really ignorant information.

Ok but what do you ecpect me to do about it? Im 21 unemployed and high all the time, why is it now my responsibility to care when i cant do anything?
I have suspected that I might have ADHD but after listening to this, I'm sure I do. I'm 51!
😢For young Black children, this is an extensive phenomenon in public schools. In the 40 years of my public and private schools, our Black children, especially boys, were and continue to be humiliated on a daily basis. 😢😢😢
Not so slick Colourists also use these same enquiring tactics in order to establish where you will fit in the so called black hierarchy/or datability lane. You have any Indian in you? Where your parents from? Who did you get your nose from?
Thank you 😊😥
What movie is this
if it makes you feel better Shahem doesn't come across as the type to constantly blame everything on astrology. i found it an interesting conversation. Would love to hear more and hear your birth chart. haha

*deep ancestral sigh* yep
Is this for real? Why do blacks hate white people so much? And don’t say “slavery, blah, blah, blah”! Thats just a terrible excuse considering more whites have been enslaved, murdered and persecuted throughout history.
I have to disagree with you. I’m white and loathed throughout the world, and I don’t have white privilege.

YES!!!!
Love hearing from you!
I'm regularly uncomfortable with confronting people due to a long history of abuse but I've been working on it. I've gotten a little better about it but ultimately all that meant was that I now have no friends or family. Which is probably for the best but it still sucks. Having to confront the fact that you can't safely communicate with someone isn't fun and doesn't feel like growth. It feels like being abandoned while asking for help or expressing hurt. I've been told it "took me too long" to figure out what was making me upset. I've been told I'm not worth working things out with. And so far that's unfortunately been the case.

Love hearing from you!
I love this perspective! We aren't inherently socialized to actively pursue community. It always saddens me when I hear people talking about not caring about their friendships. I'm emotionally fed by all of my relationships.

I've therapized enough men. While I'm sitting through the discomfort, is he also working on those stunted communication skills... The mutual effort HAS to be there. I'll look for this full episode.
Absolutely. What you’re saying is valid but I don’t think it negates what he is saying. If you want to be in relationship with that man, and he is willing to sit for and through a difficult conversation imo that is effort.
