Another spearfishing session at the end of summer. Bass, cuttlefish and a mullet. Was playing around with a second action camera which I was installing at the bottom in different places.

Nice little cove at NT - Old Serpentine Works. Very promising with a couple of good rocks in the distance. Happened to be not fishy at all apart from juvenile bass and pollock. Found big spider crabs mating. Let them continue their business. Another brown crab, but too small to take. So seems to be a good place for crustaceans. Nice views and calm waters though...

Skittish bass, lobster, fighter crab, eel and a sea cucumber.
Nice video, nice view and clear water even if I think it's quite cold. A premise, I'm 63 years old and I've been spearfishing since I was 15 and I've always fished all year round. And I've caught lots and lots of sea bass... three suggestions: 1 if you can, don't fish with the buoy line on, the fish can see you from a mile away; 2 don't move too much, in fact it's better to stay still; 3 reach the bottom as quickly as possible, if you're in shallow water, and hide, the fish have certainly heard you and know where you are and will come to look, if they don't see you clearly they will get closer. Then you have to hope that they pass in front of the point, and it's not certain.
@@stefanograndi961 many thanks for your suggestions, I'll surely try them. I was thinking trying without the buoy line at some point. So when at the bottom I shouldn't turn my head at all? I guess turning the head won't make much difference as even if the fish is there I cannot move my gun without spooking it... may be it will work on pollock but not on bass. I'll try being more motionless, cheers! Where do you hunt for bass, Mediterranean?
Where is this?
Nice videos bro. Have just bought all the gear for spearfishing and waiting on wetsuit arriving next week. Have fished Arbroath for last 10 years and sick of getting blanks lol so taking the plunge
@@clancranstonlc cheers mate, how's the east coast of Scotland in terms of fish?
@@cloudyhorizon1780 the winter fishing at start of this year was actually pretty good after few years of pretty poor. Summer is always epic here for usual suspects and I usually get a lobster on the bait rod once every few trips so my spearfishing dreams are big 😅
@@clancranstonlc it will get you hooked :) much more involving compared to rod fishing
Great vid mate!
beautiful shots, been wanting to try out spearfishing, how did you start out yourself?
cheers. I started by reading books and blogs about it, watching videos from various spearos. Unfortunately I do not live very close to the sea so it took me 2-3 years to build up some confidence on occasional trips. Having a buddy in the beginning and doing a course would also help significantly. I guess it is all about practising it as often as possible and gain experience. It is also fine not to catch anything but just being in the water. Good luck! :)
@@cloudyhorizon1780paha yes the confidence is something i’d definitely need to work on, thanks for your reply i’ll definitely take your advice :)
Great vid! Loving the subtitles versus audio overlay, makes it far more immersive! My 7YO lad and I snorkel that mark too. What a lovely spot!
cheers! Indeed, sometimes too much talking makes it look like a dubbed movie :)
That was really nice! Thank you so much for a ‘slice of life’ in your spear fishing adventures. Keep it up & enjoy. (And thanks for cleaning up as you go along too)
@@normannisbet1213 cheers! Yeah it is a hard work with pleasure :)
Looks like an undersize bass you got there - how do you tell that they are above taking size before you shoot them
@@tonymorrissey9637 the fish measured 42cm when frozen, so I'd assume it was at least 43-44cm before that. After a bit of practice you know when it could be on the shorter side so you don't risk then. I shot an undersized bass only once and it was an accident as it got aligned with the other fish.
@@cloudyhorizon1780even if the bass is undersized, the reason why fish stocks have depleted 90 percent since the 1800s is due to industrialisation of fishing, trawling etc. The spear fishing and other angling communities have insignificant impact on the stock levels. It’s greedy fishing industries for the last 100 pillaging our waters.
@@bengreatrex1364 also with the amount of bycatch thrown overboard and destroying the seabed for years to recover... we also do not leave anything behind, nets, hooks, fishing line, led, lures etc.
@@cloudyhorizon1780 spot on mate, keep up the good work.
awesome footage...if I continue to keep not catching bass then it looks like I'll be getting a spear gun next year! haha
@@petewl2532 cheers. haha, I find rod fishing too stressful now :) too many lures to loose without knowing if the fish is even there!
Great video - loved all the drone shots at the start - beautiful scenery and amazing visibility in the water, I’m jealous!!
@@BR0SE1DON cheers mate. Yes, sometimes the vis at the south coast is quite impressive. The fish is more skittish though!
That looks super fun , some great underwater shots of the gulleys and bass
Good video 👌

Hola amigo! gracias por mirar
How big was that bass?
@@samsunggalaxy3442 the one I caught? Probably 50-52cm.
@@cloudyhorizon1780 nice1 that's a good fish... well done 👍🏻
That was cool - great spearing, lovely conditions, well filmed, very much enjoyed!
Close call on that bass in the start of the vid. Big bass! I never see those cuttlefish here in Norway. Looks jummy🙂 Great vid👍
@@Spearfishing_joh it was a monster! I felt the motion through the water when it swam away. Yes, the cuttlefish were something new on my menu. There were tasty bbqed.
Interesting stuff 👍
Looks like a great little trip, well done! Amazing spot to camp out. Glad to hear I’m not the only spearo who gets seasick!!
@@BR0SE1DON cheers! Oh yeah, it gets pretty quick to me after all these windy roads before getting into water. :) it sort of getting better, but if there is a swell and no visibility, I'm done.
@@cloudyhorizon1780 mate, I am in EXACTLY the same boat. I get it so badly - any chop on the water and I'm cooked. I had it worse than I've ever had it this weekend, I was out on Saturday, the forecast was meant to be amazing but as soon as I left the harbour, the wind and the swell were something else. 4 foot swell, the visibility was as bad as I've ever seen it. I managed to find a sheltered spot behind an island but honestly, I couldn't see much past the end of my gun. I threw up, often while I was on the bottom, at least 7 or 8 times... I tried to power through it... I found myself retching on the surface so hard I was struggling to breathe, actually got me a bit panicked - had it call it a day. You're right about the drive, I have to go across the Welsh mountains, takes me 2.5 hours, super winding roads most of the way, sets my up for failure! I've tried everything, ginger, wrist bands, medication... no joy. After that drive, an hour messing with the boat, 40 mins steam to the reefs all to get sick after half an hour in the water, heart breaking!!
@@BR0SE1DON It is a pain! And things do get worse when you realise that you cannot do anything about it and you spent so much time to get to the place. So it can be extremely disappointing indeed. Also it affects my equalisation, so basically all I can do is to get to the shore and give myself a longer break. I think what really makes a difference for me, as I also tried all stuff that you mentioned to no avail is a good sleep before the dive. Preferably no commute at all before, meaning that I need to camp somewhere close. Wild camping works pretty good but I need to carry lots of stuff so it is an extra effort. But if I go diving without driving things normally are smoother for me. Hydration as well, drink as much as you can... nothing can go wrong with it and do breaks between dives. Like a short 30-45 minutes dive and the same time for a break and so on. Do you do spearfishing in Pembrokeshire? I love the area, very fishy and wild. The vis, though, is a gamble. We could catch up for a dive there? I'm thinking that I need to do PBShire until the end of the season. Cheers.
@@cloudyhorizon1780 That's really good information about not driving beforehand, I can always stay down at the coast so maybe I'll try heading down the night before next time. I always try to keep well hydrated and not eat a lot while I'm diving. As soon as the sea sickness creeps in, my stomach just wants to be empty, so at least I'm only throwing up water! The bit that always gets me is when I've been on the bottom and am heading to the surface, the change in pressure just turns my stomach, so I'm normally sick just as I'm surfacing - lovely! I've found reducing the pressure around my middle helps a bit, so a nice stretchy weights belt sitting as low as possible and as many weights in my vest as possible. I actually dive in North Wales, so if you ever venture up here, you're more than welcome to come out on the boat! Check out my videos!
@@BR0SE1DON will check the videos, subscribed already. Anglesey was amazing when we had a holiday there last year. Would like to try Llyn, but may be next season now. Cheers, will ping you when decide to come!
