Healing Roots
Добавлен 1 мар 2021
A documentary exploring Black Bajan women’s use of roots and herbs to not just heal but to maintain African culture 🌺 | Premiering October 10th, 2021
Healing Roots The Official Documentary
Healing Roots tells the tale of how Bajan (Barbadian) women use native plants and herbs, bush medicine as it is termed in Barbados, to help heal the body and the nation. It speaks to how these women continue African culture through their use of plants and asks us to think about what is lost on the island as we progress towards the status of a developed country.
We want to present these women, and the rich history they hold, in an authentic manner that captures the vibrancy of Barbados and how these women, through time and space are able to resist and hold onto some aspects of identity.

Amazingly done looking forward to another one.
😄🌺🙌🏾the earth heals us. Nature is always speaking to me, through its beauty and freedom. The flowers on the turban, i have collected them all. Nature has given them to me as a gift🌸🌺i cherish them and they teach me to cherish myself
“We have always HAD to be healers” 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Beautiful documentary! Its important to talk with the elders, they carry so much knowledge. Keep up the great work😊 thanks for sharing ❤
What a profound piece of work...this documentary resonates on so many levels. My bush medicine practice was birthed out of necessity, in fact out of desperation. My daughter was so unwell - conventional meds only served to compound her condition. But through root work, persistence as well as perseverance, she's now a thriving 16 year old...using bush medicine is a way of life for both of us. While watching this, I've felt a yearning I haven't felt in a long time...much appreciation for such a beautiful film ❤😊
Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful. That herbal knowledge, that passed down wisdom is the inheritance of the people. Please document as much as you can, make a series of videos and interview the Wisdom Keepers to preserve the knowledge, and thank you. This was wonderful.❤😊❤

This video was something I did not know I needed. After watching this for the 23rd time I feel as though aomething has awakened in me. Initially I was studying medical sciences but now I believe it is high time I drop out and dabble in the field of bush medicine. I plan to buy land up in the mountainside and plant by own garden of medicinal herbs providing my own health care to all those who need it. As a black woman, this video helped me realise my identity and embrace my roots. I will use this to empower myself and others to get closer to our ancestors and achieve a new state of spiritual being. I feel as though my own spiritual state has been elevated to several levels higher and it has enabled me to transcend through time and space to resist and hold onto my identiity. I would really just like to say thank you to the makers and producers and really just everyone involved in this video for really just opening my eyes and allowing me to see the greatness which is Healing Roots and I would like to give you all full credit for laying the foundation for my future career as a root worker in the mountainside. Doing Caribbean Civilisation really has been the greatest choice of my life

Knew I would find other uwi students on here☠
Honestly, i wish they would teach how to grow and use these hurbs. This would be so beneficial in so much ways: Economically saving, knowledge obtaining and in the long run it can even become a cultural thing. Modern medicine is good and all but this kinda knowledge is way better.
It is time that our local scientist step it up and further capture and develop this passed down knowledge.
So what topics did you all see in this documentary?
Whats the name of the narrator
@@reiannapinto5063 you find out?
@@otialawrence5550 yeah man umm Dr. Julia Jordon- Zachery
This is wonderful ❤🇳🇱🇧🇧
Never tried cerasee for colds, usually stomach aches. In the rural areas of Jamaica people usually use medicinal bush for some ailments. I learnt during covid that papaya leaf and leaf of life are good for bad colds, and i'm still learning more.
A tree cannot survive without it's roots. We have lost so much knowledge that we just summed up to folklore. The spirits of the ancestors truly are not spirits of the dead but is the knowledge that each generation has accrued and passed onto the ones who live.
This is a beautiful documentry, makes me proud to be apart of the Caribbean
Lovely ❤
At 2:03 when Dr. Jeanette Allsopp said " These layers....." what exactly is she referring to?
Ooooooh 🙆♀️🤦♂️ based on what she said afterwards its the slaves
She said “These slaves” but her accent makes it sound different
@@dwayna. yeah their accents are very strong especially the rasta man.
@@othneilmccalla704 yes lovee hearing it
Weys as I submit one assignment is another due sigh. Great documentary btw!
😢
I love this. I appreciate this. I wish it had more young persons in it learning from the elders. We do need to get back to the "root work" and understand that even though technology increases, we should continue to research, record and retain the "root work" so that the younger generation could have a choice and not be "forced into modern influencers". I believe that if we teach them the knowledge, they will make better choices. This has indeed awakened an awareness in me that I will not let go back to sleep.
H s v is a very bad disease, the day I was diagnosed with Hsv1 and 2 was the beginning of my sadness knowing I had the viruses but with God favor and mercy I came across Dr Oseghale Sunday Herbal Home ever since that day I’ve lived with happiness and every time I remember about the suffering I got from Hsv1 and 2 I smile because I’m now Negative;God bless you Doc❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for documenting this wonderful reminder for us, that are trying to find our way towards healing ourselves and eventually healing others.
Beautiful stories. So proud!
