Reviews and rebinds from one Bible lover to another
Bible Rebinding: How I Measure and Cut Leather
This is just a quick look at the system I've settled on (for now) for measuring, marking, and cutting leather for rebinding Bibles. I initially found this to be a tricky part of rebinding, but have had good and efficient success with these methods. Let me know if this is helpful to you, or if you have improvements to suggest!

A quick video going over two recent KJV rebinds, one from a brand new text block, another from a very old one (about 20 years of daily use). I think these are my 28th and 29th rebinds, but I may have missed some :) Interested in a rebind of your own? email me at drewtake2@gmail.com or message me on Instagram @biblesbydrew Thanks for watching!

A RARE Greek New Testament (UBS4 Reader's Edition in Top Grain Leather)
Просмотров 832Год назад
Quick overview of an excellent but long out of print Greek New Testament. This guy originally retailed for $150, but is now almost impossible to find. Nice and smooth leather with a nice grain, but the real highlight of this edition is the awesome text block with gold page edges, large print, and super thick paper. Happy to have found this guy!

Watch Me Read the Passion Translation for the First Time
Просмотров 5412 года назад
Join me for a ride through the first four chapters of John in the Passion Translation (TPT) Here are my top three takeaways: - TPT is much more than a translation. Its extensive footnotes include everything from text critical notices to word studies to allegorical interpretations. Thus, this translation does encourage in-depth study of the Bible and attention to the details of the text. - TPT h...

It is currently still available in blue goatskin for about the same price that I purchased this one: www.christianbook.com/esv-column-heirloom-legacy-goatskin-leather/9781433568664/pd/568664?event=CBCER1 However, black goatskin prices have jumped up since the China printed editions are sold out. ESV Large Print Compact Bible in Buffalo Leather - Review

Thanks for watching! These are just my thoughts on this nice edition from Crossway that I've been using the past few weeks. Hope you enjoy! If you're interested in purchasing this Bible, check it out on Crossway: www.crossway.org/bibles/esv-large-print-compact-bible-bfltr/
I like your Bible. I also like the tooling lines❤❤
Dude!!! Seriously, from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for this tutorial!! I've been attempting to rebind my Bible for the last couple months, following various tutorials here on RUclips and I have failed 3 times. Wasted so much time and leather. I was feeling defeated and felt like giving up entirely. I was about to decide to just save up some money and send my Bible off somewhere for a professional to rebind for me because I just could not get it right!!! Then I found your video and decided to try again, following these measurements you taught. It worked!!!!!! My Bible, though not perfect, FINALLY has a gorgeous leather cover and liner on it that is the proper size all the way around!!!! Every other time I tried, the yapp length was only correct on the top and bottom edges but it was flush with the pages on the long side and looked awful. But this last time I tried, it's finally correct on all sides!!! I am ridiculously happy! The only thing I wish I did different, was I wish I found the proper material to do the "oxford hollow" spine part, as I used some leather that I pared/skived down as thin as I could get, therefore the spine part is kind of thick but it works. I'm waiting for the glue to dry now so I can glue the end pages and it will be finished! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!!!❤
Crossway makes good Bibles. I've one in leather and it's top notch. Not even a premium one and it's very good.
Drew, I can’t seem to keep the area the liner glues to on the text block from being rigid and not pliable. How should I fix this? TIA
The value for me in a premium Bible is not a one or two year stress test. The benefits of a premium Bible come into play after a decade or more of continual, daily use. Most cheap Bibles I have owned have fallen apart by then.

Beautiful rebind!
Nice progress
Hey Drew, What size irons and thread did ya use? I just can seem to get that down or the cornering. Oh my cornering is terrible. Consider doing a step by step, it will help us newbies. Thanks!
Extremely helpful. Thank You!
what is best to do for the spine of large bible to reenforce it? How many layers of mull? Linen? Cardboard?
It saddens me to see anyone reading from TPT. This is not a translation at all, as Brian Simmons, the one and only 'translator' has no formal training. Instead, he claims to receive 'downloads' from God. The fact that it has been accepted and used by the hyper-heretical organization known as Bethel Church tells us quite a lot.
1) I see no reason to profit Red China with my Bible purchases. It saddens me to see that over my long lifetime Bible manufacturers have counted on increasing their profits even on expensive Bibles by adopting this practice. When I was a child in the fifties and sixties virtually all our American Bibles were made and printed and bound here. 2) I still have a Thompson Chain Reference Bible from the seventies that I used as a main Bible in college and still use at times. Amortizing that cost over the past 45 years, how much did it actually cost me annually to have what was then an expensive Bible? Unless you tear your Bibles up yearly or mark in them like toddlers, the annual cost of even the best Schuyler and Cambridge Bibles is quite low. 3) When David and Solomon were planning and building the temple, did they go to Home Depot or Wal Mart for their materials? No. They, and God, wanted the best for His worship. Why should our Bibles be any different? I hear those who say it's just hedonistic self indulgence to buy a $200+ Bible. Well, I want the best for the reading and study of His word. 4) I'm a guy who, other than a watch and a cross, doesn't wear jewelry. I like the sensual feel of premium French Bible paper, the odor of the finest leathers available, the durable stitching, and the 'feel' in my hands when I visit the Lord through his holy word. I make no apologies for that. 5) Best wishes to you in your ministry from the Houston area!
I love that you are using three colored ribbons
Would it be possible for you to add lined paper to my Schuyler Quintel but keep the original leather? And how much would it cost?
Thank you for your honest review. As to your point about not wanting to be flashy, the premium bible could witness to others that your treasures is the Word of God.
How large is the large print please?
Thanks, you answered it in the video - 8 point font.
At about the 2:42 mark, when you are talking about the yapp and foldover, you really ought to mention the foldover *cannot* be greater than the yapp. (Don't ask me how I learned this.)
I'm new to rebinding. I am also confused. Doesn't the fold over create the yapp? I must be doing something wrong
@@2woofs784the yapp is the amount of cover that sticks out past the text block. The fold over is the part of the cover that folds down over the yapp.
That looks great Drew!
GREAT video. So helpful. What thickness of badalassi Carlo do you use?
By any chance, do you know if the Greek-English version includes de dictionary from the only Greek version? I am getting very excited with my studies of faith and bible, and since I have been realizing translations are very diverse and multiple, I thought on getting the greek text too. But my greek is super beginner level. So I was considering this text. The other question I have is if this book includes the index of quotations from old testament and new testament. I am interested on learning what Jesus quotes, for example. My other question is, Do you know if there is any New Testament like this, but instead of Greek-English, in Greek-Spanish? Would you say English is closer to Greek or Spanish? Do you have any other recommendation you like more for Greek-English NT? Thank you for your video. God bless.
I think a premium Bible would be worth it for me. I keep buying cheap Bibles and they fall apart in a few years. Sometimes they fall apart after I read through the whole Bible just once.
I’m willing to pay extra for a bible with pages that are heavy enough that print does not bleed from the other side of the page. Paper is graded by weight so a nice heavy weight will prevent bleed and make it easier to separate the pages to the page I want. Also has to be lay flat and large print.
Please post some more videos. Are you still doing rebinds?
These came out beautiful.
People are so deceived! Humbling?! How about getting your act together?! ruclips.net/video/45Bo9LJtacE/видео.html
@@setholesen6784 So, you call English archaic or dead....Greek and Hebrew as languages spoken back then, are dead, indeed. English, however, is not dead, and the English language of the KJV is richer and more descriptive for God's purpose than either Hebrew OR Greek and therefore it is a growth of perfection for God to choose English for the destination language of the bible he determined to publish in 1611. (that is a significant year in that it is shown many times in the King James Bible, whether you read the various printings of 1611, or the editions that followed, by the way). As for the translations, when the King James Bible is translated into other languages besides English it is not going to be exact, but close enough for people of other tongues to get to know God. Because he chose English, those of us who have been blessed to have English as our first language will have a higher responsibility to his word than those who do not have English as a first language. There is so much testimony and evidence to show us that God himself indeed, by his choice of words, even letters in the words (English), the book, chapter, and verse placements and numbers, that it is literally impossible to think that God took his hand off his word for an instant to allow mere men to decide which words, letters, numbers are to be used. No, All of Scripture from the end to the beginning is God's inspiration, using those he chose to have it accomplished. God also uses numbers extensively to 'stamp' his inspirational authorship. Remember, numbers per se were not found in Hebrew or Greek. The letters had numerical value. Again showing that English, is indeed a superior language to the Hebrew or Greek. Bear in mind that English in it's presentation bears likeness to both Hebrew and Greek (and Latin....ie Roman numerals), which again shows God's handiwork as all of creation has similarities when examined closely. To paraphrase Isaiah 46: 9,10, God says that he is God and there is no other, then he goes on to say that he knows the end from the beginning and he watches over history (beginning to end) to make sure that what he purposes to take place will indeed take place in his time as he pleases for his own pleasure. The bible is for God's pleasure and our learning, to get to know him and how he does things. The testimony found in the KJV is unique to itself. The testimony falls apart in ALL modern so-called translations because the choice of words, just for starters is not God's choice but rather men who think themselves smarter than God, apparently by choosing different words. The weaving of the Old Testament to the New Testament cannot be found in the modern translations for this reason as well, and people never know or understand how absolutely everything God says, where he says what he says, and the words he chooses to say what he says is to show us without doubt that he alone has done this. He didn't leave it up to some scholars who are all puffed up with their own estimation of their intellect and wisdom. No, God alone has done this. If you could go back in history and ask Moses, or any of the prophets of the OT, or Paul, Peter, or any of the other writers of the NT if they thought/knew they were writing holy scripture, do you think they'd have answered yes? Not likely.....they were merely writing what they were inspired of God to write, in obedience to him. Did they understand all that they wrote and how it would eventually all fit together in a published BOOK? Of course not! Only God knows that. Isaiah 34: 16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them. (The book of the LORD!......What is he talking about?) Which verse is that? Yeah, chapter 16, and count the words to 11. What word is that? READ! Ya think God isn't speaking to us?! That is just one example. There are literally thousands like that. The number of times particular words are used is also significant, and that breaks down when words are changed, or outright eliminated as happens in ALL modern translations. Some have removed entire verses! God is not happy about this. Everything has a time and a season with God, and our time is now....the winding down of the last days before the time of Jacob's trouble (when God pours his wrath out on the disobedient nation of Israel and the rest of the world who reject Jesus and his word). We are blessed with the perfect word of God in the King James Bible and it's our job to stand on it and rebuke those who would push dumb idols on the ignorant and uninformed. That's what those modern bibles are because they are not of God and are not living. God's word is LIVING and sharper than a 2 edged sword. Yes, that work 'quick' in Hebrews means living, but people reading modern translations wouldn't understand that. When Jesus said he'd come quickly, he did not mean fast, either.....He IS living....risen from the dead! So bottom line is, do we use our own intellect and try to reason our way to truth, or do we fall before God and admit our nothingness and brokenness acknowledging that without him we can do and know nothing and boldly ask for forgiveness and allow the Holy Ghost to teach us? I guarantee, the Holy Ghost will guide nobody to modern translations! Judging from what you've said, I would come to the conclusion that you didn't even watch the video I offered, so it might be useless to suggest another look. However, as for your comments about the history of the bible, that is dealt with extensively on that same channel, and you might get a better insight if you truly are seeking truth. What if we KJV only people are right? Are you willing to stand before Jesus at the Judgement Seat with your NIV or whatever else? You won't get a crown for that, guaranteed! It'll get burned up like wood, hay and stubble......that is if you are indeed saved. Many people who think they are saved and stuck on those false bibles will find themselves at the great white throne judgement after hearing the words from Jesus that he NEVER knew them! Scariest words in the bible!!!
I'm happy not every bible these days is being printed in China. Somehow it feels wrong to have the Word be printed in such a godless country.
I like the idea that it can be passed down longer
Personally I like verse by verse double collemb Red letter. I did get an R.L Allen readers bible NASB and that was a pretty penny. But it is my current work horse bible. Highlights, writing and some white out to try and make it a bit more accurate.
Something is confusing me. If the liner is what makes the long measurement need the extra 3/16", why is it added to the liner total and not to the cover total only?
Because when you cut the center line of the liner and place the block in, it doesn't wrap around the block like the cover does. I actually add a little more than that to the cover length because I add an oxford hollow to the spine.
@@firstfwbchurchmorrisoncity677 If I am using an Oxford hollow on the spine , is 3/16” still a good number to use for adding to the length of the cover besides the extra for the yapp/fold over?
Relax man! It's a very nice Bible and you don't need to feel guilty for having a nice Bible. The only problem would be if it's quality distracted you from reading it's Word or if you tried to belittle people for having a cheaper Bible 😂 which would just be ridiculous and I don't think that you would do that! If that isn't an issue just enjoy this gift that God has given you the ability to have! You should feel no guilt at all about this, that would be misplaced. Nice video and I hope that you and your family are doing well!
Watching alot of bible videos. What im noticing, people are more into "playing" with the book, then studing Gods word. They pat it, constantly need to slap it, rub it, flip it open and closed.... None of that glorifies God..folks. Personally, I like bonded leather. Floppy, but not limp like goatskins, calfskins.
It might stand out to you, but I don’t think anyone else cares
Is it moral to buy a Bible that was produced in the land of slavery and concentration camps? You have innocent people's blood on your hands.
Great video Drew ,would you do a complete tutorial on a rebind ?
What determines when you use an Oxford hollow or not, or do you use on every re-bind? Thanks!
I think this is the first video I ever saw where I saw someone talk about the cons about owning a Premium Bible. I agree the goatskin leather cover and the art gilding can be a distraction from what is important, which is the text, which is why I'd rather not have a Premium Bible. That plus I can't afford to spend $100 or $200 on one. I can probably buy five hardcover Bibles in different translations for the price of one Premium Bible.
*God promised to send us a famine of hearing His word in the last days. Read Amos **8:11**. I knew farmers who had buried bibles and guns for when someone came to take the bibles away from us. That prophecy has already been perfectly fulfilled but it was done **_supernaturally!_** This is the separation of the WHEAT from the tares too, tares just argue and maybe quote verses about how God's word will never pass away which is true because His true Children hid them in their hearts and some are making videos to preserve what His words really are. WHEAT always immediately investigate this and begin helping to spread the news after they learn it's true. WHEAT can type in (proof of bible change residue junkie) and learn all about this and see all of the previously misinterpreted prophecies being fulfilled supernaturally and have their faith strengthened unimaginably! Tares can just keep arguing and hear Jesus explaining it at the Gate.* ❤✝️💪ruclips.net/p/PLOTw4zBND_NPf66nKUONLoe2MNFLb5LQr *P.S. After people have taken all of the required 💉's, they will apply a quantum dot invisible tattoo to their head or hand, but anyone who has had just one has a bluetooth mac # that can be read by any smart phone and when you walk through the deal at an airport they know if you have it. The no buying or selling is happening incrementally and will be complete when cash is abolished and worship can be defined as "to fear, obey and trust in someone or something" which is what they are doing with the Beast System and the Image of the Beast, (NWO and TV!). They also now have triple helix DNA, are no longer human and if they have children they won't be human either! Yes, this absolutely is it, and👉 if you write me at the address on my about 👈page I'll send you 15 **_shocking_** films that will PROVE it to anyone who has the courage to watch them.*
Praise YHWH!
That smaller Scofield Bible your Great Grandfather preached out of is a real gem of a Bible. I have the same one I read out of everyday and mine is in the same condition with the Scotch tape on the torn pages as that India paper becomes easier to tear over time. Enjoy it and the notes your Great Grandfather wrote. That notes he wrote alone makes that Bible a priceless treasure.
NOT a KJV...
I got a KJV study bible which was really nice, but half the price. I couldn't justify spending money on a premium bible, but then I'm on a British pension.
My thoughts are to get a Bible that you're going to use daily and will help you study and understand what you're reading. Of course durability is a good factor as well. I don't think having a premium Bible is a "sin" by any stretch unless the person buying one is doing it for show. I do plan on getting a different study Bible eventually someday but haven't quite decided which one
That's very true. And that's why I'd rather not have a Premium Bible. The two Bibles I got last year- one for my birthday and the other for Christmas- are both Leathersoft and to me, they are excellent Bibles. One is the KJV Center Column Reference Bible and the other is the NKJV MacArthur Study Bible.
Do you feel like this would pair well with waxy turquoise as a 2 piece?
premium Bibles are just a fancy way of saying we want more money......... a Bible should not cost over 100.00 period. Im sorry (kinda) but its just ridiculous how many people are trying to capitalize on Bibles and God's word. it's sickening
Super wierd that roughly ( I'm guessing, here) 80% of the Bibles in the U.S. of A. were printed in a totalitarian, communist country that persecutes Chrisitians and is bent on destroying the U.S.
Fun fact: this Bible is $60 right now on the site
HI Drew, thanks for that video! How do you skive your leather cover? What tools or technique do you use? Thanks a lot for the inspiration! I also started rebinding at the beginning of 2023 but I am making much slower progress (I'm currently on rebinds no. 7 & 8).
Nice job.
Drew, the biggest con is the erroneous translations. You have been conned.
god revealed to me that the kjv isnt perfect so i would rethink what you are believing
