A masterpiece, no my friend. I get why people love Train of Thought-it’s heavy and technical. Personally, though, it’s not my favorite. I feel like the focus on heaviness overshadows some of the variety and emotion that make their other albums stand out.

In the name of genuine dialogue, I’m curious: how would you personally rank Train of Thought?

@amitamo7936 Nah, I've definitely heard worse when it comes to DT fans' takes. ^_^' For me, it's not that it's a bad album, I just prefer many of the other albums over it. Some of the songs (This Dying Soul, and Honor Thy Father) just had too many edgy/rap-like and cringey distorted spoken word moments. I do like Endless Sacrifice, that was one that I failed to mention. But ToT is a bit monotone and 1-trick pony of an album, but it's great for the absolute metal, head-banging vibe. Just not my cup of tea.

Hard disagree. I had never heard that quote going into the book. I was definitely disappointed in so many ways. I don’t hate it like so many people, but man, definitely disappointed.

@BrentLooyenga I appreciate your candor and civility! That’s always refreshing to see during a debate of opinions. It’s very fair to say that people can come to their own conclusions about the book, positive or negative, without requiring outside influence. I’d be curious to hear what disappointed you about the book, if you’re willing to share.

@@SimplyNerdy Yes. *spoilers* Several examples. Kaladin (historically my favorite character) has such a cool receptive arc coming out of RoW, he gets his armor. He's ready to help. And for all 1300 pages he talks, and never really is Stormblessed in the way I had hoped* to see him. Each of the other 4 books, Kaladin had a moment, "honor is dead, but I'll see what I can do" is a good example. He didn't have that. It made me sad. But all four previous books had a moment where you were like "woah! This is nuts!" Such as Kaldin holding the bridge in TWoK, or in the coolest dualing scene of all time in WoR, or the battle in Theylin (sp) City at the end of Oathbringer. But this one, even by day 10, I kept expecting this crazy build up moment - and it never really came. The closest to that would have been Adolin holding the throne room (easily my favorite arc of the book) but MAN. It just felt so... anticlimactic. At the end of RoW we have all the people of Eurutheru (sp) chanting "Storm-blessed, storm-blessed" as he fights the pursuer, It's an iconic moment. Even though that book was slower, that moment was insane. WaT missed that I think. Further, I really didn't like the inclusion of some terms. I LOVE the fact that Sanderson finds his own "cuss" words, that is, they say "storms!" or whatever. In Mistborn it's "Lord Ruler" or "ashes". But to have Lift drop the S word out of nowhere was... jarring. Further, having Mya call Adolin a "slut" is another good example that I don't think he really did before. I also felt the Rinarin (sp) and Relain (sp) (note, I listened to the book, and thus have no idea how to spell the names) relationship was so forced, and felt like he was trying to shoe-horn in ideas that haven't really been in place anywhere else in the book. It took me out. Anyway, there are still great moments, but man, I just came out of it disappointed. It may be my least favorite of all the Stormlight books. Not by a lot, but least favorite for sure. I could talk longer on it too, but those are a couple examples. :)

Yep! You can burn a metal to use your/your allies innate abilities! Example; you dont have any steel action cards but you want to pop off your character ability so you burn it by placing the metal token in your "played cards" area.

@@SimplyNerdy I have been listening to them for a long time. Train of Thought was the first album I was introduced to. Since then, I have loved listening to them share some of the best rock music ever made by some of the best musicians ever! Systematic Chaos is probably my favorite album. I am also very happy that Mike Portnoy is back. I have been following his work very closely since he left and he did a lot of great stuff with the Winery Dogs and some other individual projects that were some of my favorites.

That's amazing! Yeah, each musician is just mind-blowingly proficient at that they do. I was introduced to Scenes From A Memory back in high school, and have followed them since. Also, I've followed Mike Portnoy for many years as well, including his work with Neal Morse, Transatlantic, etc. You'll have to stay tuned for our upcoming full discography review in the near future!
