Leah, I have become a huge Phoenix hockey fan over the past few months. I think you are the greatest ambassador of hockey in the desert. Your podcasts are passionate and informed. Better than most. The bigger broadcasts (HNIC, ESPN) go over the top trying to be glitzy and relevant but sadly leave us established fans bored. Your down to earth and fun podcasts are the best. Chase center in San Francisco and Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle were both entirely privately funded. It can be done and it’s disingenuous to say it can’t be done in America. You know what else was privately funded? The intuit dome and sofi stadium in LA, and even with some tax breaks for sofi, it pales in comparison to the level of investment for a hockey team that was asked for in Tempe which is arguably a much smaller enterprise than a shared stadium for the rams and chargers.
