    How do you get it thick? I use this same process to make tomato soup, but instead of using an emersion blender I put it in a Vitamix blender. Does cooking it down after roasting it make it thicker?

    • @foodprood
      @foodprood 2 дня назад

      Hi! Good question, I do think cooking it for a bit longer helps reduce the water. Plus the type of tomatoes would also make a difference to. The paste tomatoes like roma, san marzano etc would also help. I have never used a vitamix so I can't compare but I sure love my immersion blender.

    I’ve started a garden every year for the last seven years. I water, I fertilize, I prune, I put up bird netting…. Seven years and I haven’t gotten one single thing from my garden😡 No okra no berries no greens no cucumbers no peppers no peas no beans no squash… I’ve tried inground I’ve tried raised beds I’ve tried pots I’ve tried fabric containers… it’s a good thing I just like to be outside.

    • @foodprood

      Stop! No way, say it isn't so???? If your growing okra must be down south? Gosh I'm sorry to hear that. But yeah, it is a good thing you like being outside. I love using the garden as an excuse to be in the sun

      Where are you getting your seeds from? Second make sure you have nutrients for blooming if it grows from a flower or root builder if it’s potatoes/root veggies like sweet potatoes, carrots etc. Sounds like you may also have slugs. Also work chicken and or horse manure into your soil in the fall over winter it to mulch it and add things like peat moss into your soil to make sure it holds water as well as drains better. Farming takes thought but everything in life takes thought and if you really want your garden to be fantastic- pray over it. Only God can make a seed a grow and He is the key to bountiful harvests. He always is the key to complete fulfillment and joy/peace and faith we shall overcome all things in this life and beyond our imagination of hope for every good thing eternally simply for loving our Father who loved us first and completes us.

    Middle Tennessee here. We've had a garden for years, and this feels like the worst garden we've had to date. I say that, but we have had some successes. It's not a total failure. But things that normally grow like weeds here - they're not growing this year. We've had weather issues. Too much rain. No rain at all. Intense heat to the point where I finally had to break down and invest in shade cloth, first time ever here. And we can't shade the entire garden, so you do what you can do. We're already reevaluating what we're doing for next year, but you can never predict the next season. Anyway, just wanted to say - it's not just you. I've heard from other gardeners who are also saying that this spring/summer has been an intensely difficult gardening season.

    Yay finally getting some goodies from the back garden (aka shade garden) so join me as I show you how and what to harvest. So when is the perfect time? When the buds are tight and right before they start to open up. After you let one go to seed/flower you'll know I mean. Check on them daily, they pop quick. Make sure to leave the broccoli plant after you harvest the main head, you'll get plenty of dippers!

    I can't really grow bulb type onions. Not warm not sunny enough. However, I do preserve onions by dehydrating them and storing them in 1/2 gallon mason jars that I suck the air out of with the vacuum sealer. I also vacuum seal them in bags as well. Did this the last time I had excess. They lasted the whole pandemic and I just used the last of them recently. Dehydrate at 135º max. I like doing it at 118º so the onions don't turn golden brown at all. When I rehydrate the ones done at higher temps they color the water golden brown. After about 3 soaks with fresh water they are much lighter in color so look better in my cooking. Either way they taste great and store outside the freezer.

    • @foodprood
      @foodprood 2 месяца назад

      Oh lovely!! So diced them up, then dehydrated? I'll dehydrate and powder it up and that works great too. What zone are you in that's hard to grow onions? I'm in 4b or this year they tell me 5a 😆

    We primarily raised bed garden but added an approximate 25' x 30' in ground last year. I invested in a Hoss Wheel Hoe, and it's great for light cultivation between the rows to keep weed pressure down. If not familiar with, your garden appears to be a great candidate for a wheel hoe. But I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir. Enjoyed your video. Panama City, Florida zone 9a
