I am the first to comment. Not very good story. I would have expected a much higher standard considering that it is a story by lovecraft. My favourite is "the color out of space"

Be a great subject for a large budget horror movie ? A Gothic like colonial horror past followed by the more modern late 1920's follow up ?
The question of why the big studios don't adapt Lovecraft's works is a never-ending discussion among Lovecraftians. In the end, we will probably be left with low-budget films, a few gems like Color Out of Space with N. Cage and films and series that have little or nothing to do with the original (e.g. Lovecraft Country). Unfortunately
My favorites H.P. Lovecraft tale the 2nd being the "The Thing on the Doorstep".
It´s indeed a fantastic short story but like many of Lovecraft´s works it is being shadowed by the famous novellas

Great story, I don't know why it isn't read online as much as his other stories. I absolutely loves the atmosphere and mood it imparts.
Probably because such small stories are not as prominent as the long texts like Mountains of Madness or Whisperer in the Darkness. I guess most people are not aware that Lovecraft wrote poetry as well.
