If you ever come to Perth again, take a train and then maybe an Uber down to Mandurah. It's about 50 minutes south of the city, and there's a zoo there called Ranger Redz Zoo. My daughter-in-law is from Austria and we took her there when she was last here because you can pat and feed the kangaroos and see a lot of other Australian animals, too. It's well worth the trip, and the zoo is small, so it doesn't take very long, and then you can check out the beautiful beaches of Mandurah and the shopping centre, too.

Years ago when backpacking in South America, I met two English lads. On saying I was from Perth, one remarked that I did not sound like I was from Scotland. The other said, No you fool, not that Perth, the other Perth, you know that CLEAN PLACE. I had never thought of my home town that way before, but when he said it I swelled with pride. Yes, that clean sunny place, my home Perth. Thank you for reminding us Perth-ites of the wonders of our city.

Ugly city. 90% of the city is just suburbs which all looks the same. City is boring. Only Freemantls is beautiful. Public transport is also garbage. City is not well connected. Do not listen to her.

I lived there for 9 years back in the 90's. Best years of my life. It offers an unequalled lifestyle for sure...

I hate Perth. Horrible scorching hot, super expensive and housing/rent is appalling. Oh, and everything is over governed to the max. They have rules for their rules in Perth. Its probably ok if you're a well off middle class boring twat. And please be careful of the knife crime there...

I am Perth born and raised, and very pleased that you seem so genuinely happy to have visited. It is a shame, though, to have come so far and not really been able to get up close and personal with some of our more endearing fauna. As others have noted, quokkas are by nature most active at dawn and dusk, though the recent trend of people wanting to capture a selfie with a quokka seems to be causing them to alter their activity patterns to be somewhat more active through the day. As an adolescent, camping on Rottnest (during the mid 1980s), they would be very thick on the ground, fossicking between the tents for any food scraps that one might have dropped (not to mention any backpacks they could break into!) But the best place to see kangaroos, right up close, is at the Perth Zoo. This is in South Perth, pretty much directly across the river from the Central Business District (head to the Barrack St Jetty, from which you can catch a ferry to the other side, then it is about a kilometre walk to the zoo). Unfortunately, entry to the zoo is _not_ free, but they have a number of kangaroos in an enclosure through which you are free to wander, and they are sufficiently accustomed to people that there is a pretty good chance that they will come and check you out. It is worth spending as much of a day there as you can spare, so you can be around when they are being fed-they really are quite extraordinary creatures-and it will also give you the opportunity to check out my favourite bird, the Tawny Frogmouth!

We arrived in Perth 25 years ago and never left! Glad you loved your visit to our home. One of the most beautiful cities in the world without a doubt.

It's always good to see a positive reaction to my hometown. Perth has many treasures and you need patience to experience all of them. Whiteman Park has all the animals you want to play with kangaroos galore and kaolas.

i would also visit cottesloe beach if weather permits and walk along south perth foreshore, go hiking in some of the national parks which isnt too far from the city.

I live in Perth and I love it too. Seeing it through another person who is visiting made me realise I take this city for granted. We now have more "staycations" so we enjoy where we live more. Plus no cost to travel!! Just drive to where we need to be. Western Australia in general is absolutely amazing😊

I presume by now you have been informed kangaroos are marsupials they sleep all day and are awake all night. Next time you come take a 10 minute ride out on the freeway north come off at Warwick rd left next turn is Pinnaroo valley crematorium. Drive through to the lakes at rear around 4.30 onwards, you will see at least a dozen or more kangaroos feeding on the grass very active. Thank you for your kind words for our city.

Sadly Perth is seen as “boring” and most people go to the eastern states of Australia to see Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane…I do agree Perth restaurants etc close early as compared to eastern states so looking for places late at night is hard. I guess being born in Perth I’m kinda like, Blahhh… but I have to say it is beautiful, less crazy like larger cities and has enough for me. Our beaches are some of the most gorgeous in the world and Kings Park is apparently the largest natural park;and in a CBD in the world {hope I got that right lol}…..glad you had a brill time here hun….😊

Come in the Summer, get roasted in the heat, see deadly snakes and big spiders 😬

Watch out for kangaroo ticks.. where there are Roos, there can be ticks in the grass etc. They suck onto you and grow big over a week

Only the Cat Bus is free.. normal buses cost!!

I've lived 50 years in Perth and travelled far and wide to many other parts of the planet. Perth is the ultimate city to come home to and feel.....at home. It's a breath of fresh air.

I’ve travelled all over the world and I’m always relieved to get home to Perth. I think it’s the low population density here and the almost always blue skies. With visitors, I always take them to the cemetery at Whitfords, guaranteed to see lots of roos there 😂

Shame we didn’t know you were coming there are friendly kangaroos everywhere, just go a couple of kms out of town. We are so used to them being around the suburbs that we don’t notice them anymore

It's like any holiday . That's why it's called a holiday . It's a getaway from your own confinements of everyday life . Until you actually live in a place for a long period of time you can't really have an opinion of what it's really like . I've been to many cities and countries and loved them but living there is a totally different perspective. This could also be a propaganda post that was paid for . You-Tube has many of these types of posts promoting places .

My husband and I emigrated to Perth from the Uk in the early 80s. It was a sleepy little city then with one airport. Domestic flights landed during the day and international flights at night. So we arrived in the dark and book into a hotel. In the morning we walked down through the Supreme Court gardens to the swan river. It was a quintessential summers day with endless blue skies and palm trees lining the Swan river. We were both speechless, we couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. 40 years later, we have 4 grown children and a tribe of grandkids and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Pity I didn’t know you were coming, we live in the hills and have kangaroos everywhere 🦘🦘🦘🦘😂

I first step foot to Perth in Jan 1990, as a scholarship student from Malaysia. I know nothing about Australia other than Kangaroos, Kalgoorlie... Fell in love with its sight, smell n sound from that time... In 2013, and my husb n I had since brought our adult daughters here for them to study and now we hv permanently moved back to Perth... I love Perth everyday. It's vast, not crowded and peaceful place on earth... 2024 still as lovely at it was in 1990..

I love Perth CBD, South Perth, and Dalkeith. But everywhere else is isolated with lots of nothing in between. You need a nice car and a good social life, otherwise it gets boring quickly.
