Saratoga County Homestead

The Saratoga County Homestead sits idly on a hill in the tranquil yet remote hamlet of Barkersville, New York, some fifteen miles outside of Saratoga Springs. The Homestead, once a valiant hospital of its time, now resembles something out of an Edgar Allan Poe work of horror. Motorists on County Highway 16 slow down to admire its four, regal-like columns on the road-facing facade. Decades of va...

TREMPER MOUNTAIN NY! FIRE TOWER 31! CATSKILLS!
I was there February of this year, as a former hardcore skeptic and atheist, I did not believe the things I heard and felt at this hospital. The dead are very much still with us.
I’m totally with you! When I was there I could just feel it! When I was editing this video if you listen close you can hear some voices. Made the hair stand up! Lol Definitely looking into doing some more! Also check out my video of Jane Widows Mine! You will not be disappointed! Thanks for watching!
nice video!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!
Buddy was such a nice dog! I am sorry that he died. A great hiking companion. Neen to OK Slip Falls twice. Beautiful in the spring.
There’s not a day that goes by when I’m hiking I don’t think about him, he was definitely the best hiking buddy and my best friend. He’s in a better place now and not suffering, we had a lot of memories. Ok slip falls is such a good hike! Especially in the fall! I definitely want to go back and do a hike in the morning before sunrise because I hear the sun reflecting off the waterfall can make some amazing pictures! Thanks for watching! 🥾
Where in Florida is this ?

@@fyre8691 that wind was crazy! The video doesn’t do it justice! They said guest were 50+mph that day! Lol but that being said it all worked out in the end. Thanks for watching!

I spent 40 plus years in the area skiing and hiking. I am in Colorado now but still miss this area for sure.
@@kenlewis4524 never been to Colorado, but everyone I’ve talked to that has been there says you will never want to come back to New York! That’s what I’m afraid of. Lol that being said no matter where my path in life ends up the Adirondacks and Catskills will always be home to me! Thanks for watching!
@@exploringwithdan7876 I spent 67 years in NY but wanted to be in Colorado while I still had enough fitness to enjoy. You can visit and still enjoy NY as they are very different. The weather here is amazing even in Winter. Don't miss it even for vacations. Enjoy.
@@kenlewis4524 I will definitely take that into consideration! Thank you! One day 🤞
What happened to the hotel
It was family owned for years then sold in the mid nineties, the new owner continue running for alittle bit after that then stopped not for sure the reason why but now for sale and owners are not taking care of the property, it’s so bad now that the city is involved now. If I find anymore about it I will definitely update everyone! Thanks for watching!

Beautiful piece of equipment. Sad to see them wasting away. They would probably still do well today.

Cool but I don't know how I would feel living in that house and having to see that train all the time. And no fat engineers on that loco. LOL
I totally agree! They had to watch there weight for sure! 😂 thanks for watching!
I had four ancestors in the battle. All survived. One wounded. Walrath is the name

if you’re still in the area there’s a trail at Owen D Young school with some small caves, big water falls, swimming holes, and a bit of history with the area such as there used to be a cheese factory right off the trail
I’m from the Utica ny area so I’m not to far from there! How cool! I’m going to definitely check that out! Love stuff like that especially the history! Hmmm maybe a future video. Lol thank you! I really do appreciate it.
haha no way! i’m in the same area

Finding a GG1 on the old Bel Del line is somewhat of a mystery, to say the least. That line was never electrified, so the locomotive had to have been towed there. The why and how must be an interesting story.
Yes indeed it is! And I’m trying my best to get the details for a update video! Stay tuned! Thanks for watching!
They look over engineered and complicated.
They definitely do! We I was looking around in there I keep thinking wow there is a lot of stuff here i wouldn’t even have a clue how to get this going! Lol thanks for watching!
Try that at night. Bwah hahaha...
It’s going to take a small fortune and a lot of back breaking work to restore this GG1.
Yeah definitely up against it with this GG1, but 🤞it can still be saved! Thanks for watching!
"Cooperstown junction" GG1s are full of bad bad transformer juice (pcb) super expensive to detox
That’s what I’m being told, too heavy to transport and to expensive to fix. I’m going to try to setup a donation with the leatherstocking railway, people want to donate and come see the Milford train station. 🤞we can do something to save her. Thank you for watching!
There are a few in museums around the country!
That’s what I’m being told! I have to take a trip to go see one of these GG1’s! Would love to of seen one of these in there heyday! Hmmm future video? 🤔 lol thanks for watching!
So cool! Check out my song "Ode to America's Old Automobiles" on music streaming services (by Randy and the Retreads)
The locomotive has the Penn Central logo and black paint still on it. Penn Central was the result of a merger of the Pennsylvania and New York Central Railroads in 1968 and lasted until 1976. The reasons: the timing of the merger, poor decision making from the top down, the 1970 bankruptcy filing, and excessive gov't regulations. In essence, PC was it's own funeral train, so sad.
I’m learning so much about this from you guys! It really makes me understand more and more about this engine and it’s history! it really is appreciated! Thank you.
These trains could be coverted as shelters for homeless people.
What a shelter that would be! Just epic! Thanks for watching!
I can't believe it! I never thought I'd see a classic engine, just abandoned like that.
So the story I got about this classic engine, was that it was supposed to go to a museum but when it came time to load her up to transport she was just to heavy. So they put her back on the tracks and that’s were she has been ever since! Also the funds have not been there to restore her. I’m working on trying to start a donation to try and restore her! 🤞 thanks for watching!
Railfans, we need to get her out of there and cosmetically restored.
I’m actually working on trying to setup a donation for this GG1 and the Milford Train station! I’m actually going to donate the money I get off this video to restoring this GG1. I’m trying to work something out with the Milford train station and other video soon! 🤞 thanks for watching!
@@exploringwithdan7876 nice. Thank you for helping this PC GG1!!
@@F40M07 you are welcome but I can’t do with out you guys! So thank you!
Did you get permission from the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad's President to go climbing through the GG1's🤔? And; FYI, I'm the one who got the ties.
I actually met him 2 weeks before this video! He did a video with me on the Milford Train station, really good guy! I’m guessing you didn’t watch the whole video I explain a lot about this situation, it’s ok it’s along video lol ok so when I was talking to him I asked him about a train that was on the tracks further down, I think he meant like alittle ways not being this far away he said he didn’t and it was left at that. So two weeks later I went and seen this GG1, so if you see where I park I parked in front of the train alittle ways up and walked down the tracks to the train and went right, there is no trespassing signs on the right side, so I only found out after going inside the GG1 and me at the time not knowing who owned it since I did ask the president if he knew of this train and said he didn’t I started going around to the locals, and trying to find out who owned it to tell him that I did go into the trains. That’s when I found out that charlotte valley railroad does indeed owns this train. I been trying to call the Milford train station, all I get is a voice recording and I left a message haven’t heard anything back, also tried calling the leather stocking railway and it just rings. So since I don’t live in the area I’m going to be planing a day trip down there again to talk to him, I’m also going to talk about setting up a donation for this GG1, I’m also donating what I made off these 2 videos to the Milford train station. Between these two videos I have over 30 thousand views, people want to come visit the Milford train station and want to donate. I want to keep this history alive for my future grandchildren. Thanks you for being concern.
I believe Amtrak ran those engines for a short period of time on the NEC.
You are correct! Thanks for watching!
More creepier i saw abandoned places tho(on Shorts)... At least, farm, looks not that scary i guess. 😅
What is it in the US that companies just dump their shit wherever and walk away.
I do agree with you! But with this train I do know the owners, years ago it was sold to a museum but when time came to move her she was to heavy, so they put her back on the tracks and that’s where she been ever since. They don’t have the money to restore her but I’m trying to get enough people’s attention that maybe we can set up something where people can donate! 🤞 thanks for watching!
the box that said "TORPEDOS" ,they were called track torpedoes, were in use before modern communication. it was an explosive that was put on the track. when a train ran over it, it would explode letting the train crew to know there was danger ahead abd to stop.
That’s crazy! I did not know that! All this information really does help out, I really do appreciate it. Thank you!
