Taking care of your reef tank while on vacation!
Do canister filters work on salt water tanks. I have a 55 gallon
Expensive hobby. A little mistake can ruin all fish and corals. But beautiful to watch.
Old video but 10% of 90 gallons isn’t 9 ml.
🤦♂️ you are correct!
Thinking of renting one. Did you have to take par readings at different times of the day when the lights ramp up and down? My lights somehow went off shedule about a year ago and I couldnt remember the settings at the time so I just choose the preset LPS which seems much brighter. I just ordered a batch of corals and want to get back to old settings but now I am afraid to try to go back in fear of my other corals being used to the setting! BIg mistake I know I should have waited but got tempted on a big labor day sale LOL. Any advice! I also hate the new setting because it dosnt ramp down to all blues when it shuts off!
I spot treated with hydrogen peroxide and a syringe and 24 hours later I’m dealing with a cycle crash. I had made sure to turn off all my filters because I heard that you don’t want this stuff hurting your beneficial bacteria. I randomly decided test my parameters tonight and everything is skyrocketing. I don’t know how my fish are still alive.
Newbie here. Do you keep your heater in the sump or main tank? Thank you.
Redundancy is key! I have one in my overflow and a smaller one in the sump.
Only thing you didn't hit was the rock you used.
I used live rock from my local fish shop!
Would u do a canister filter, protein skimmer, or both ?
I prefer protein skimmer and love to keep things simplified in the tank!
I’ve watched 30 videos & didn’t understand any of them, you’ve made this so quick and simple thanks a million!
All that and you didn't show us how to mount it???
not to pick this apart but that's not 10%. 10% would be 9gallons and that's wouldn't go well. this is one 1ml per 10g. how did your inverts go? I'm currently considering doing this on my tank and just hoping to see people's results. also how much did your nutrients increase during treatment ?
Hope the algae problem is better by now. Just a little something I noticed with my aquarium the first year it was up and running is that when I eliminated the green and red channel on my LED lights the green hair algae disappeared.
I used the waterfall style for years . About a year ago I switched to the up flow style . Both are very effective but in my experience the up flow produced more algae .Plus it's pretty much silent as compared to the splashing of the waterfall style .Good video for those looking to build one though .
Super interesting! I’m going to need to take a look at that.
Are you still building these ? I need one badly
Most of these youtube things can’t be validated. Where is the final product after a year later? Link me.
Here is the one month review ruclips.net/video/dUyZIZhm-_E/видео.html the algae scrubber still runs and produces after a year. I don’t run it every day any more as I got my nutrients under better control.
i contacted kedsun to see if they recommend this pump for saltwater. they don't did you see copper leech?
Interesting! I have seen zero effect from this. I do have a 90 gallon tank so it might not feel the effects of this. Have you heard of other tanks having this issue?
@@Tankbruh1 no i haven't im just curious. i do have an order placed same company higher rated one. i'll stop by for sure if it rusts to let you know. i do have a 120g system. i have a similar type that i've been using for water change for over an year. tonite i'm gonna open it up and see if it rusted. :D its a vivosun or something like that
Does it have any ill effect on your fish?
It did not! As long as it is done is small doses it doesn't seem to have an effect on the other animals.
This shit expensive ash😂
You are not lying. It is expensive but super rewarding.
I'm your 1000th sub ur welcome
This is the ONLY video I’ve even remotely understood so far. I’m jumping into the hobby with a 150 gal, this video was much needed as the sump is the most intimidating part of my research so far. Beautiful delivery, thank you.
I like these videos and quality please make more videos
Nice clear and explanatory video. Good job!
Great video bro
How often would you do the vinegar soak once a month?
I have mine scheduled for every six months! Based on your bio load you may need it more often or less.
This was literally the best video I have seen out the so helpful thank you so much
Don’t want excess algae few things prevent it. Don’t reuse rock from another tank. Once the nutrients get out of hand the rock soaks it in and will leech it out for even longer. Really the best method is get your parameters in check and remove by hand and he then approach cuc. All this snake oil theories are great til they aren’t. Stick to the basics for success in feeding
he is kinda like a hip hop version of reefer rather than normal uncle that talking for hours.. great and fast content bruh
What were your Nitrates and Phosphates before you installed it and what are they now?
They were undetectable before. After, I have slight nitrates and still undetectable phosphate. My system has never shown phosphate. Also, worth noting, is that I miss identified the algae. It was actually Bryopsis. I recently got rid of it. The Algae scrubber did rid my sand of algae though!
You always remind of the actor fisher stevens
Lol I do hear that a lot
@@Tankbruh1 I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed lol
I still want to know what that was 😱lol
If i were to have a fish only tank or 1 big fish in a 55 gallon tank could i get away with a canister filter?
I will say yes! I’ve seen it done before. Just make sure you get one large enough to handle the bio load!
@@Tankbruh1 ok sounds great i was thinking of getting a lionfish i know some kinds of lionfish can handle a 55 gallon, would you recommend any canister filters that could handle it?
Fantastic informative video thanks for sharing bro “ ...I will have to get some of that silver fish , do that have it at Petco ?
Hey Thanks! Im not sure if Petco has silver sides. I usually get them at my local Fish shop not the bigger chains.
@@Tankbruh1 cool they just opened up a local fish shop near me ...thanks I’ll try them..
You guessed it! I’m going to do a follow up because it indeed is bryopsis! The method remains the same however when treating Hydrogen Peroxide. That’s why I still posted. Good eye!
What strength of peroxide are you using for your 10% rule?
It looks like byropsis ??
So if I have a fish that is... 8in, I only need a 16g tank? thats a terrible "rule of thumb".
I hear ya, an 8” fish is pretty large and 16 gallons would not suffice. This video really focuses on those who are new to the hobby and hopefully won’t be buying a river monster for a small tank! Normally hobbyist are buying fish that are much smaller.
what crock of shit
Lol sorry you didn’t like it man.
Update! Did it solve your hair algae issue?
Not completely but it helped a ton. It is growing a lot of algae and slowed things tremendously!
Hey I’m new and was able to pick up a 60 gallon tank with, led light, active aqua chiller system, integrated filter system, wave maker for only 250 which I think was a steal. Was a lobster tank before but I’m not sure what I’m missing to make it saltwater. Any info on what I’m missing for a saltwater tank thanks in advance.
That def sounds like a steal! Without seeing it, it is tough to know what is missing. Based on the description it sounds like you have what you need. Lobsters are already saltwater creatures! Now to get it started you will need to add saltwater (you can pick this up from a local fish shop) and you will need live rock to begin the biological filtration process called “cycling”. This is achieved by adding live rock and maybe a fish (most people use a damsel) to kick start the tank. You cannot add more live stock until the tank is completely cycled. This takes some time so patience is a huge must! My best advice is to do some more research on cycling! Feel free to ask as many questions as you need. In more than happy to help!!
Any way I can send you photo of what I have so you can have a better understanding and better info on what I can/ not do
This video was so helpful. You literally did what all these other people didn’t do, and that’s explain everything and break it all down. I’ve watched so many videos and became more and more confused and terrified to start a salt water tank
Super happy to hear! Have fun setting up your tank!!
I completely agree with you on this. I became so confused with setups for just the basics and ended up building a refugium after every video mentioned one and then a tiny HOB filter and my water went all crazy. Now I know it’s not needed to begin with and I’m going to switch the cheato (spelling?) to a spare tank until I’m ready to do the Over flow as he mentioned. Every time I search for beginner salt water I was so confused. This channel is very underrated!
That crab looks like an Alien! MAD!
Yeah super fun to watch man!
most informative vdeo ive ever seen for a person thats new on saltwater like me.
Awesome! Let me know if you have any questions on anything!
Planning out my first saltwater tank and I am shocked by how little there is on RUclips about Saltwater.. (compared to the freshwater channels)
Feel free to ask any questions I’m more than happy to help! It’s a huge learning experience and super rewarding!!!
Thanks man great video
It’s nice to see others using a 55 gallon for reefs, I hear people usually despise the 55 gallon for reefs due to it being so narrow
I had no issues with it! I’ve recently upgraded after a few years to 90. The 55 did the trick and let me grow lots of corals! Happy Reefing!
@@Tankbruh1 oh yes I definitely feel an upgrade to a 75 gallon or for tangs only, a 125 gallon when I get my own place 💪🏻 thanks for the reply I wish your tanks and yourself good health
nice vid
Anyone else realise he spelled G.O.B. instead of H.O.B. lol
Haha! Yeah someone else caught me a while back! Lol I was learning how to sign and thought I was good enough to hit HOB. Turns out I wasn’t! 😬
liked and subbed man! ive found myself at your channel a few times freshening myself up on some reef gen ed before i start another tank and i enjoy your videos man. its been a few years since ive had a reef tank and your videos have been super easy to follow.
I really appreciate that! Means a lot. I’m glad they are helpful. Let me know if you have any questions and good luck with that new set up!
@@Tankbruh1 Thank you very much brother
Thanks for the Video... looks Amazing.. Question : i have 40 gallon saltwater tank and I buy RO water and then add salt at home and the clownfish and snails are ok for 6 months... i want to try reef.. do you think just RO water(not RODI) will work for reef?
Really good question. You should always use RODI. The main reason is that it rids any imperfections in the water that can cause harm. Things like silicate, chorine, and hard metals. That being said people have had success with using just RO water. If you decide to do that I would look into sending your water away for an ICP-OES test. This will help you understand exactly what’s in the water and if it’s safe or not. I personally have an RODI unit. It was one of the first things I bought and it is still kicking! I hope this helps!
@@Tankbruh1 that helps a lot.. thank you 😊👍🏻
Excellent very informative, Great tip regarding the ornament.
Hey! Thanks for the vid! How long is the longest youve left home with this on? Ill need to travel for about 5-6 weeks and a sitter isnt an option, but im concerned about my dry pellets becoming spoilt as i live in a humid city+ the tank moisture. A friend should drop in once for a quick water change but that's about it so I'm trying to find a reliable product
Thank you! I wouldn’t be concerned about the pellets becoming spoiled. I keep pellets in mine at all times. I would be more concerned with other things going wrong in that time period. What I usually do when I travel is set up a security camera pointing at the tank. This way I can see if anything is going wrong. I also invested in the apex fusion. This product lets me see some basic parameters such as temp, ph, and salinity. I would have someone on standby to pop in if they need to!
@@Tankbruh1 thankyou very much, yes i have a baby cam installed and a friends number ready incase of an emergency, you've been helfpul!
