Technically you could drive for a long time but that's not to say that a lot of damage won't occur in that time, problem with over filling your oil a lot is that it could reach the moving parts like the crankshaft which will splash the oil around and whip it up causing it to break down or separate and froth and have air in it and then it loses it's ability to lubricate the engine parts properly and also it might starve some components that aren't being oiled properly because the foamy frothy oil doesn't pass through an oil pump or sump or filter as well or possibly even all that much at all causing engine damage, everything i said is correct, except all the car parts i just guessed because I'm going off what i read a long time ago about problems with overfilling oil but 😂 you get the point, also a side note, dont ever suck up any kind of car liquid's with your mouth and a tube, for crying out loud just go to harbor freight, they have liquid transfer pumps that you use to hand pump whatever liquids you want and they can be used for gas or oil because it comes with different attachments, they only cost like 4 or 5$ and are 100 times, maybe 200 times faster then what's shown in this video and you dont run the risk of accidentally getting a surprise used oil or gas smoothie slurped up down your throat, talk about having the right tools for the job, this video is a prime example of that. Just because you can doesn't necessarily mean you should or that it's the right way of doing so

I'll do my best to try help answering your question, which is entirely based on my personal experience I have had working on cars, regarding the question of how much damage could have been caused from driving a year with overfilled oil, I can guarantee with 100% confidence that the correct answer is somewhere in between minimal damage/catastrophic damage, but you would have to go to a mechanic or auto shop so they can run tests and examine the vehicle to get an actual detailed answer with a report of the specific parts that were damaged or if there even was any damaged to begin with. Of course other information would help to give clues to predict and help better understand the situation of your vehicle and some of those things would be: to know the exact make and model of the vehicle, find out what capacity oil it holds, to know how much extra oil was overfilled, find out details from the owner(you) if the car has been making any strange noises or experiencing any issues since you had the oil overfilled, if its been running rough or performance has been lacking in the car, to know if the shop mechanic who notified you about the overfilled oil if they noticed any metal particles in your oil when changing it or if the oil looked foamy frorhy meaning it was splashed around causing it to aurate and foam which stops it from being able to properly lubricate the engine which would lead to engine damage, but they probably would let you know about that if it occured, depending on if it was an actual legit shop or some shady mechanic or a backyard mechanic

@@mr.tactown.253 Thank u very much! Those from the service that noticed me didn't tell me any other detail than the fact that it was overfilled and shook his head, emphasizing that it was wrong. On the dipstick it was like 1 cm above the maximum level. I didn't notice any issues with the engine while driving. My car has 5 liters capacity oil, model Vauxhall Antara 2.2 CDTI from 2015. I will probably pay a visit soon to a service to run an engine test.

@@criss6945 No problem, btw this next answer is a copy paste of what i wanted to write but i was a bit lazy and just decided to copy it but it sums up what i was trying to say: I think its fine. Most engines have a certain tolerance for slight overfilling like this. "I think it's fine most engines have a slight tolerance for overfill anyways. Now I would never overfill an engine deliberately, but if its a bit high, don't worry about it. When the engine is running, the oil pump sucks a lot of oil out of the crankcase and pumps it all over the engine, effectively lowering the crankcase level anyways" Also something to add to this, I'm pretty sure you would have had your engine overheating if the level oil was overfilled enough to cause major damage, since the concern is the oil not being able to lubricate all of the engine parts being of being splashed around and beaten into a froth/foam or air added to it, but if that happened I'm pretty sure your car wouldn't be able to drive for a whole year without engine overheating or at least some kind of major signs of issues occuring, for example noise or smoke or lot of other things that most people would notice right away and figure out that something isn't right and get it checked out, since you drove for a year and went to a shop and they didn't say you needed any repairs then i wouldn't worry about it, after all, I've never heard of a auto shop passing up on a chance on trying to get the customer to agree to pay to have some type of service, repair, maintenance, ect. anytime they are able, and many times them service offered isn't even necessary or needed, sometimes it seems like they didn't even do whatever it is they offered to have done when it comes to maintenance or small things that they add on to the bill which are usually way over priced and can be done yourself for no cost, before anyone reading this gets offended at the last part, notice how I said it happens sometimes..
