Boosted 2012 Camaro build | Crank Access mod | part 2
Просмотров 585Год назад
A short video of an easy mod for people who may require access to their rotating assembly for inspection without having to remove the engine fully. This is not recommended for autocross as that structural integrity will be reduced during hard cornering. This mod works for 5th and 6th gen camaros, but may work on other vehicles/models.

great vids, horrible demonic music!
👏🏻🙌🏽
Didn't see compression ratio or squish set up and considering you replaced the block but used the original heads I can assure they would need to be done or checked at least, difference between power and no power !
I did not include every single step of an engine build in the videos. If I did, these videos would be 10 hours long. And to address the first 2 things. Compression ratio and squish aren't required on a stock build unless your changing other components which would require you to check it, having a slightly thinner or thicker gasket would barely affect the ratio for this setup. If I was building a race motor for a customer with a lot of after market parts, then yes, these measurements need to be accounted for. Hope that helps. Thanks
except the seating, i love everything else just i would swap those for a normal couch
Thanks! yea I wish I could stuff a couch up there, but its just not possible. I've been using those car seats for a long time, and I'm quite content with them. even with long 3 hour movies lol.
Yeeeee!!! Great work man!
yeee back on the builds! You gotta get that chevette back!
Screen size?
Its about 106" diagonally.
@@DarkBloodMechanical thenks
Actually Showgirls is a good movie but american people still hates to see that kind of stuff
Great setup! I like your creativity on using car seats. I think it would have been a better deal, if you sourced a used Epson 5030ub, over the 2150. They can be found for very cheap, since people are making the move to 4k.
I appreciate it! thanks!. Also, the 5030ub has a higher contrast ratio, however it isn't 4k. And also the offset center lens ratios wouldn't work with my setup unless I use keystone ( which reduces image quality ). Its the downfall of having a tight room with limited projection geometry lol. I appreciate the recommendation though! thanks!
- Lift that center speaker off of the floor. - Put some kind of carpet/rug on on the front of the room.
Ive played with that center speaker. Your right, having it on the floor isn't ideal, but theres not too many other places to place it. And I have also added carpet to the front to help with sound echo. Good catch! thanks!
Well, for one that's A76A small guerrilla car which they killed the Horsepower on it, but Pontiac's have always had insane amounts of torque and as far as factory horsepower. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 360and and 450 pound feet of Torque. at 5500 rpm
1970s was a horrible time for cars. 5.7L motors making ~150hp, guzzling fuel like no tomorrow. The smog era definitely ruined the spirit of these machines.
Hell yeah dude!
Great video. I watched these videos about 8 times. I have 2 of these engines to rebuild. One of the engine is Reverse Rotation. What information can you give me regarding the difference in parts for the rebuild?
That is a good and rare question. The reverse rotation engines require a different set of Rear main seal + timing cover seals. These seals are designed with an angle to them to reflect crank rotation. So this is very important, and easily missed. The other thing that needs to be addressed is the Piston Directions. In the conventional rotating setups, the pistons usually have a dot which is to point towards the front of the motor. In your reverse setup, you need to point the dot towards the rear of the motor. The piston rings follow the piston orientation. And last but not least, your timing set is different, you don't use a timing chain, instead there is a 2 gear system. This will maintain the camshaft, oil pump, and distributor directions. So the only thing that rotates differently in your setup, is the crank, and nothing else. I hope this helps.
Dude!!!! These videos helped me SOOOO much!!! Thanks for being thorough and very helpful with 0 B.S. like most peoples shaky crap videos. Honestly I couldn't have rebuilt my engine without you. I am so grateful!!! Those out there who need info on a marine 305 rebuild watch these videos and pay attention. I've probably watched over a dozen times. Thanks again man. YOU SAVED MY BOAT!!!!!
Thank you so much! I'm glad this helped. I tried my best to make things clear and understandable. What you see in this series can be applied to virtually any engine. My goal was to show a full process of an engine build and address the main focus points, so that anyone with the right tools can do it. I'm happy this worked out for you, and I'm glad to hear your boat is saved! enjoy the waters!
@@DarkBloodMechanical I also appreciate.! I cannot afford 5k for rebuild. But I am no mechanic. Wish me luck.
@@swapshots4427 No Problem! I have confidence if you follow the stuff on my videos, you'll be fine! feel free to contact if you have any questions.
Do I need marine head gaskets? Also can you send me what thread sealer you use. I got a gm 305 donor motor non marine I just need to know what all I need to change or use internally.
Hi. and yes, I would recommend using marine gaskets. They have a stainless steel or aluminum construction in the water passage-ways to prevent corrosion from the lake water. Regular gaskets don't have this issue because of the chemicals and lubricants in coolant fluids. As for the sealer, it's Permatex Aviation Form A Gasket. I hope this helps!
That was very impressive, well done. Nice to see the plan come together. Looks great.
Thank you, I appreciate it. I use this setup every weekend. And am super happy with how it turned out.
Well done.
Thank you!
@@DarkBloodMechanical you’re welcome
Really enjoyable video and congrats on your set up . Great job . They say its good practice to try and get all the front 3 speakers from the same range but I'm sure it works fine . It's a slippy road this home theatre lark . Once you are in you can't stop improving your system . I would quite happily watch a film in there though looks great !
Thank you! I appreciate it. and yes having different brand speakers for the HIFI guy is definitely worrisome. so I spent a lot of time tuning the amp, the HZ crossovers, etc,etc to get it right. I use this theatre every weekend to this date, the only change I've done is switch from roku to Nvidia shield, this was due to 265 codec issues.
@@DarkBloodMechanical Gaming is also a blast in surround sound . Blasting zombies on the daily atm on ps5 days gone but watched ford vs ferrari last night and was great in surround sound .
Just set all your speakers to small and cross them at 80 hz with your sub set all the way to lfe and gain to 11:30 /12 and you are good to go .
@@mivanp2185 For sure! gaming on a screen like this is awesome!. and yes, I set mine to Small, however, I found setting crossover to 50 gave crisper audio than 80. I appreciate the tips!
@@DarkBloodMechanical Thats upto you buddy but with the roll off probably starting higher and you got a awesome sub think you should let is do its thing and give your receiver less stress.
Did you guys ever dyno the car? Interested to know what numbers its putting down, also after the axle pipes are installed it may need a minor tune to adjust the back pressure. Good video guys! -.Mark
Thanks! and no. we did not dyno it. That car has gone through quite a few changes since this video. I'm currently in the works of building a stroked LS3, high compression motor for it. Still recording content for that. Long story short, the motor seen in these 3 videos, will move to another firebird he owns. so a swap video and build will be coming in the next few months!
@DarkBlood666 good Stuff, keep up the builds ! Been a while since ive down that way i cant emagine how much its changed- Mark
Runs good
it was an easy fun swap. and car is still driving to this day :D
Great videos!😊
Thank you ! I appreciate it.
I hope you're joking about that "crown piece of the motor", because that is a useless hunk of shit. I hope you have future plans to build a CAI, as that hot air intake is going to rob lots of power and efficiency.
@@DarkBlood666 17 years? Must not have learned much. It's not about how much you could GAIN with a CAI, it's about how much you are LOSING by utilizing basically NO air intake system, and just letting hot under-hood atmosphere feed the engine. Beyond stupid.
Having done this for roughly 17 years. I can confidently state that a CAI in its best case will provide about 15 HP but on average only do about 3-6 HP. And for LS engines, these intakes are pretty. However, I'd recommend going through the full build starting from the first video as I do state the original goal for the motor. Thanks for the constructive criticism, though.

tabaco pipe cleaners to clean the oil journals if that is a new crank.
I enjoyed your videos, have you ever rebuilt a sbc counter rotation engine?
Thank you! I appreciate it. and no I have not. I have worked on a 4-7 swap SBC. but this just barely made a difference in the overall output.

Thank you! much appreciated
yeahhh baby! beautiful stuff :D well done!
yee!! :D drives unbelievably smooth. Next build is stepped up a notch or 3 XD
Great job dude hey do you need to take off the pan to get to the timing chain cover gasket I have a bit of leak also I have really good risers but want to keep it that way it was a freshwater engine but now it's in miami so naturally going to be using in saltwater think if I paint it inside with good rust engine paint will help or it's kinda pointless? Thanks in advance would like a 2nd opinion
Hi. and Thanks for watching! The chain cover cannot come off without removing the pan. it has a lip which holds the gasket, and the gasket is fastened between the oil pan and the block. the only way to do this, is if your willing to cut the gasket right where the lips are, and then reseal is with silicone, but this is very unlikely to hold. As for the paint, painting will always help prevent rust. so if you can get a good clean surface, then its worth doing a quick coat or 2 of paint. The best option is to do, is to bring the block down to bare metal, prime it, then paint it. but this is not always an option. I hope this helps.
@@DarkBloodMechanical oh awesome! Thanks bud good to know I'm going to pull the engine out tomorrow I have searay 21.5 that's horribly tight to work on might as well put in a new starter lol thanks again 👍👍

Is that L channel a good way to hide speaker wire? And can you get at Lowe’s
Yep! It worked great and was cheaper than the real wire covers. And yes you can get them at lowes or any home reno place.
Thank you so much cause I was stuck on mine on how to go about doing thank you a lot
Goddamn those speakers are overkill haha.
hehe. they definitely rumble the house. I love them so far!
@@DarkBloodMechanical I bet! Congrats on the setup and enjoy them!
Right? absolutely amazong.
I have a seized 5.0 mercruiser and was wondering if I can get a truck 305 and out the exhaust and water pump or are they built diffrent
Hi blake. So they are built slightly differently. The head gaskets for marine applications use stainless steel since the water passing through the heads isn't treated/lubricated. And there's an extra steam water port on the merc block, but this can be ignored. The camshaft is also different since boat motors are meant to operate generally at a constant rpm range. Apart from that and maybe the dipstick... you should be able to swap it over. This mercury build series i used a truck block from a 90s van. Hope this helps.
@@DarkBloodMechanical how much did this rebuild cost with all parts
@@blakelira7098 itll all depend on whats damaged and whats reusable. We got lucky with this build. So if you watch the whole series i mention what parts needed replacement. And which were new. I charged roughly 3500CAD for the whole job. This included machining, new parts, paints, tune.
Outstanding! Well done!
Thank you!
Hey there! Just watched the whole series to get an idea of what im getting myself into. Do you happen to have some kind of parts list? Is there manuals with written literature on the entire process? The stuff like tolerances and boring the motor stumps me. Thanks much! Happy memorial day!
Thanks for watching!. Click on the ( about ) section of the channel. And shoot me an email with your questions. Ill gladly answer what I can.

Cool, well done. Hard part about attic conversion is the roof line and fitting in a screen. The angles for the speaker placement make it a challenge as well. Also really hard to make it feel comfortable watching a movie with how tight it can be.
Those were the exact struggles I had. especially the roof shape. The geometry really restricts the screen size and placement.
Can't say that anymore, it's an african-american trans-am.
My dream car!!
Youll like this build then. Its a big one. Still collecting parts. And plotting out the project.
