Could dolphins be trained to collect these nodules? Seems like a much less invasive method. Don’t try to tell me dolphins aren’t capable of being trained for this task. They are far more intelligent any dog breed. Sheppards can be trained for a vast multitude of joint tasks, so it stands to reason the same concept could be applied to Dolphins. Who already work with humans in coastal South American towns without specific training. This is a good idea. A really good one. Their echolocation would easily find the nodes, and they’d have no problems bringing them to the surface. It would cost a lot less. Think about how many resources you can retain not needing to have a fleet of large ships that cost a ton to assemble, staff, and maintain. My goodness 1/10 the cost could have an entire company sized element of dolphin / handler combos trained ready for deployment in 2-3 years. There has to be something I’m missing. No way nobody thought of this.

You're not very bright are you. These proposed mining depths are around 1,000-4,000m +. Think about it how deep can you dive then think a little harder. How far can dolphins dive. Here's a hint 300m.

@@richardkaz2336 Your parents were right to name you Dick. Excuse me for not being an expert in the biological capabilities and limitations of dolphins or know that these nodes don’t begin to appear till 1k yards deep. Hey Dick, since you’re an expert please explain why they cannot farm some part of the ocean that has risen over the last million or so years. Depth doesn’t remain constant over eons of time.

It is essential that there an opportunity is given to marine biologists, scientists who have extensive knowledge of ocean currents and other experts in the ecology of oceans around the globe to determine exactly what dangers deep sea mining might pose. We must impose a moratorium that provides sufficient time to conduct such research. We must also provide the necessary resources, both financial and material, to determine whether to allow the proposed mining to proceed. We have only one opportunity to get this right because once mining begins it will be virtually impossible to stop. There are huge amounts of money to be made by a very small percentage of the population of our planet and they are the wealthiest and most powerful as well.

Who gives the authority to the UN and International Seabed Authority to determine who can and who can't deep sea mine? Who will be the voice for the millions of inhabitants living in the deep sea? If deep sea mining comes to fruition, it will destroy their homes and our planet. It doesn't require millions of taxpayer dollars spent on conducting an environmental impact study. It’s common sense. Humans are the dominant intelligent species. We only need to look at the last century to see the devastation we have caused. Are we humans that blinded by greed that we will destroy the future of our own species and that of millions of others? Have we declared war on life to enrich our pockets?

We are at the start of a 0nce in a Hundred year event with the World changing over to EVs. This is a Win for the world. To continue to mine like we are currently is NOT Sustainable and we are on the verge of a Planetary disaster. 600% increase in battery metals will be needed by 2030. We can NOT keep tearing up our jungles and use child labor. 8 Billion people in the world now and they ALL want what you have: High Tech Health Care, Cell Phones, Computers lots more and They all take rare battery metals to fuel our Green New World. Ocean mining is agift from god that can help transition humanity to a Green New World. It would be WONDERFUL if we could all live in a Cabin in the Woods and eat berries. Sorry that is not an option. What the world is doing right now is NOT sustainable 10,000 + Oil Wells and I guess this is ok. Follow the SCIECE this is a MUCH Better way to get humanity to the Green New World we are headed for. you want to clean the oceans start with cleaning up the rivers. When you start at the rivers you going to see a HUGE amount of mining poison going into the oceans. This is a Planetary disaster that needs to be fixed now, not in 30 years while we try to get alternative energy methods that may or may not work. This can save the world. Follow the Science stop the knee jerk reaction of this is ruining the world when in fact its what we need. ruclips.net/video/za6dE5JrNB0/видео.html The demand for nickel is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, driven by the increasing use of nickel in electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that the demand for nickel in EV batteries could reach 1.3 million tonnes by 2030, up from 200,000 tonnes in 2020. This represents a growth of over 600%. Current mines can NOT support this kind of growth. China is the main player in battery metals and they are restricting sales.

In order to make alternative energy sustainable we will need a lot of rare earth elements as well as nickel and cobalt. The richest source of these crucial elements is deep ocean deposits. If we make the oceans off-limits for mining, we will not succeed in cleaning up our earth and the oceans and continents will continue to fester.
