I'm seeing this 2 years after its post, and just got back from Crete 3 weeks ago. My wife and I fell in love and will retire there. As for property prices, They are in all ranges HOWEVER many...many have been sitting on the market for 2,3,4...6 years without selling. They are way overpriced and the owners probably overpaid for them and want to make a profit which won't happen. We viewed 1 property for 680,000 euro a little west of Heraklion which is on the market since 2018. We offered 550,000 which is still more than what the seller paid and he could have come away with a little profit, but he refused. He got quite upset that we low balled him, but our agent explained...in Greek...that the offer was fair considering the market. It is not on an upturn. The villages are tiny and people are leaving because of lack of opportunity there. The larger tourist and expat traps like Chania is overpriced as all tourist and expat traps are. We have chosen to find a house in the Heraklion prefecture or around Elounda/Agios Nikolaus because its beautiful there. If you don't believe me, you can visit (it's stunning!) and ask any local(s) and they will agree with my assesment. @tiktak houses, if you have any villa's under 600000 euros with CLOSE UP views of the sea or seafront with 3+++ bedrooms and a pool, comment here, and I will contact you.
