I am a middle aged guy who enjoys being a visual story teller, model building, military history and hotrod cars. Together with some friends, I will chronicle some of my adventures adding my own brand of historical commentary. Being a member of the Western Military History Association has definitely given me a unique perspective! I am also an active member of the International Plastic Scale Modelers Society. I plan on giving some historical insights as I build some of the different modeling projects I do, as well as sharing some of my Technics for building and weathering plastic models, and just so you know most of my techniques are old school. Come along as I go to model shows, car shows, museums and other unique adventures. The banner photo is courteous of Photostarr Images.

Hey sometimes changing subjects is a good pallet cleanser when you get burned out on your main subject. I did pacific aircraft all year and took a break from it by doing a couple Gunpla kits. Its a good idea. Plus you learn some new things
@@makoajohnson2341 you certainly do learn new things. And sometimes remember things that you had long forgotten. I don't know if I did a show on my Pacific aircraft. But yeah, years back I had aircraft that were involved in the pearl Harbor attack as well as the philippine attack, and when I say I had aircraft, I mean, I had an example of every type of aircraft that had been involved, including the light aircraft that we're Involved

40K is 1:56 not 1:48
@@the_loyal_monarchist5280 sorry, I'm not sure what you're referring to. I went over the video again and everything seemed fine. Can you elaborate a little bit better?I am old and slow
@@maddogmerv They are in tableto scale, wich is in 28mm scale. That translates to 1/56 not 1/48. Basicly every 40K miniatures are in 1/56 scale excluding legion inperialis, wich is in 6mm epic scale (really fucking tiny) and aeronautica imperialis too. The one box you have is for a separate game, called 40k kill team There is no error in the vid, just pointed out that the desc. has the scale wrong.
@@maddogmerv the scale is 1/56 not 1/48. Its a 26mm tabletop scale, likw bolt action
@the_loyal_monarchist5280 thank you for the clarification. I really appreciate that. Yes, I have heard both and looking at the older space Marines that I have I would tend to agree that they are 28 mm scale. But, looking at the latest productions from games workshop, I tend to believe those who say the 32 mm scale. Which comes out to 1/48, and the reason I tend to believe that is I have several wwII 1/48 scale figures and the Space Marines (being enhanced and all) are slightly larger then regular humans, as they should be. The only reason I even bring this up in my video is that a lot of my viewers are very familiar with 1/48 scale aircraft and armor and I just wanted to put it into context for them. But, I definitely agree with you as games workshop doesn't brand them as a perticular scale. Looking at these new figures they've been producing, they are awesome. Thanks again for watching and commenting. I do appreciate it.
Nice figures Merv. My brother Pete @Pete's Model Car Customs sent me over. I'm not a Warhammer fan, as such, just dabbling in with it at the moment. I'll have to follow this build to see how you get on. Take it easy and have a great weekend. Cheers Bob from jolly old England too 👍

I used to do Bare Metal Foil on my models with good results. However here lately I've been messaging up the BMF when trimming it so I tried the Molotow pen with ok results and also painting it on with Tamiya chrome silver but I just can't get any of it right. This made me so mad that I walked away from model building 3 months ago. Hopefully I'll figure out a great way to get it done right if I do in fact get back to model building.
@@PatrickKend thank you for watching, and thanks for commenting. This seems to be a real sore topic with a lot of people who are just very stubbornly married to using bare metal foil. My thoughts are, if that works well for somebody, great more power to them. I hope they enjoy doing doing what they're doing. And I have found that the pen version of the molotow liquid Chrome doesn't work very well for me. So I bought the bigger refill and started using just a tiny brush to apply it and found the results for me. At least we're excellent, but I use this stuff on more than just car models, I use it as a base underneath lenses on helmet, so I can get a better brilliant effect on the lenses. As well as a base coat for some of the candy paint jobs I have done. I found, if you apply this with the thin brush, just like you would any other paint that the brilliance of this product is superior to all other paints I have used. Sometimes it's good to take a break from modeling. I know, but hopefully you, we'll be able to find something that works well for you and be able to get back into the enjoyment you've had of building in the past. Thanks again for watching
As a senior who currently attends highland, this seriously made my day. So cool to see the pictures from the 50’s and 60’s and how even the layout still looks somewhat similar today. Really awesome video thank you so much for sharing. ❤️

For me winter is model building season. I mean I build all year but now that it's cold and dark early, I'm not going out as much. Do you have a big enough heater to build out in the doghouse during the winter?
@@makoajohnson2341 i the state outside most of last year to build, but this year so far it's been cold enough to make it uncomfortable after an hour or so. That coupled with the shorter days, thanks to the Sun, going down about 430, that it just makes it. Yeah, easier to haul in the house and do it in my office, which doesn't have nearly as good of lighting.
@maddogmerv i live in north ogden myself and my hobby bench is in the basement. I keep a space heater going down there but I have to start it 30 minutes or so before I go down there just so everything is a good temp. Yeah cold is starting earlier this year in utah it seems.
Good morning Merv. You are lucky that you still have your eyesight to do the figures. (125 Rods).
@@smithgroove945 yes, I am. I'm very fortunate that even though I need the headset to magnify, as I build, at least I can still do that. I have a second optimizer that belonged to my father. It has a very powerful lens on it that I used to do figure faces, but it's what he used to use just to type on the computer.

@maddogmerv Thank you Merv. I do want humour in my channel.👍😃 There's enough downers in the world
Happy Sunday to you too Ed👍😃
I would love to know how you went fixing the bow in the hull. i tried fixing my SS-Modell 1/700 Konig and just made the bow worse and lost some detail. I put boiling water in a baking tray, sat the hull in it until it was soft, then lashed it to a straight piece of wood with tape. It looked fine to start but over time as it cooled - the upward curve of the bow and stern only became worse
@@domitiusseverus1 well I didn't really fix it per se what I did is I took a wooden board that I was going to use for the base and gorilla glued it using c clamps to get it flat on the base. So I'm stuck doing a waterline with this one.
