Did Harry ever tell you, in '72 broke, but did great Carpentry, although Acting had wound down to chasin' Ads & Series Episodes, but had only had 1 in past 18 mos, so pretty much done! He was remodelin' Cous Cherie & Hubby Al/s Santa Monica home, & they imported me from Michigan to help Harry out, injected into project by sanding entire job w/Harry! We left for, "VaCay/CA Tour", but really to give Harry wk to apply finish to cabinetry. Opon return, he was frantic, as broke & Elec Co gonna cut his LA home's service off. Quick as bunny, I flew for Rollie's Film, rushed back for 12 Carpentry Photos, & got 'em processed about min before Harry's arrival. He left note on table, "Photos Please", had Wife's little 35mm Camera on strap around his neck, so Cherie handed the photos I'd just taken to him, clickin' door shut. He was back in 4 min, w/"Wow, they're great", & maybe his Acting Portfolio Photos need face-lift, so asked if Al could take new ones for him. Al, listening in said, "I can't take those kinds of photos, & neither can Cherie, so is reason we had to call in Expert for your Carpentry Photos from Mich! Harry no comprehendo, so Al said, we got Cherie's Cous, Billy from Mich, you know the kid that sanded the job with you?? Harry said, "That's great, & I suppose he's back in Mich...right? Cherie said, "Why no Harry, he sittin' right back here with Neighbors Pam & Elvira, rating your performance right now FYI. I gave 'em estimate of, Twenty Eight Fifty (which he took as $2,850), jumping up roaring, "Good God, that's a lot of money", immediately, w/lurch headlong into Al's Director's Chair....& out like a light! Girls all put efforts on 'em, so with application of smellin' salts, cold towels, & TLC. they'd brought 'em back! When Sleepin' Beauty awoke, he looked up, & Al said, "Do you want 'em or not"? Harry mumbled buncha BS, & again said, "That's a lot of money", Al shook 'em, saying, "That's twenty-eight fifty, Twenty for Rollie's film, & eight-fifty for processing, & it's the bottom price. Al shouted, "Do you want 'em or not"? Harry's mouth movin' but no sound, so Al said, "Nod head for 'YES' Harry!! Luckily, his nodder was workin', so nodded, & Al Directed, "First shot is of Carpenter, you're not in work clothes, plus don't have any tools, material, or anything you're workin' on, SO GET WITH IT, while I get the Kodak Carousel Dbl-Bright Background Generator fired up"!! For Costumes, we're same Size & Build, so Cherie will fix you up! I fronted Harry $20 for film, he flew, & I got screwed as he's not paid me back in 52 years, a really poor credit risk!! Still a Buddy, but he's gonna miss out on tremendous true-life Tale, where Best Pilot Ever, saves 155/155, w/Zero Percent chance, of saving anyone, per NTSB! Imagine, Holly-Wood Actor, passing on an Oscar, just to keep a Buddy's Twenty Bucks!! WTF?? That would be another Holly-Wood 1st, within itself, wouldn't it?? If Harry was serious about acting, he'd try to contact Ole Billy, w/current ID: Erwin Schmidt, now livin' in Lake Alfred FLA, just dial, shout "It's Harry", & will give you a pick-me-up, Buddy!

You did a purty fair job of covering the first in flight. The Wrights built and used wind tunnels. They had a smarter sister that made their trips to Paris easier because she spoke French. Langley built planes that produced bigger and bigger crashes until Curtis came along and made huge strides in aviation.

This is a peculiar video. Phil Sheridan was only in his 30's during the Civil War. And yet every picture, painting and likeness is of a much older man. No full length pictures of him are shown, but if they had, he would have been the tallest man there, if everyone else were sitting down. It is not the size of the soldier in the fight, but the size of the fight in the soldier.

Not to burst your bubble of admiration, but I've discovered evidence that the future Elizabeth Barrett Browning plagiarized five poems from American author Mathew Franklin Whittier, and one from his wife, Abby Poyen Whittier. These included "Lady Geraldine's Courtship" and "The Cry of the Children." If this is correct (and the evidence is compelling), then Elizabeth used a poem she hadn't actually written to attract Robert Browning (i.e., "Lady Geraldine's Courtship"), and presumably never told him what she had done.

I fully understand the admiration for Margaret Fuller as she has come down to us in history. My view of her is that she was raised with intense ambition to be a literary figure and a philosopher; but that she didn't have the native depth to achieve the latter, so she had to fake it. (I have studied Eastern philosophy for 50 years, and am in a position to evaluate that.) My research subject, for the past 15 years, has been an elusive 19th-century author named Mathew Franklin Whittier, the younger brother of poet John Greenleaf Whittier. Mathew, as the little brother, was on the periphery of his brother's social circle, including the Transcendentalists. I have found compelling evidence that Mathew was the author signing "F." in "The Dial," with Fuller as his editor. Similarly, Mathew was the author of all but a handful of the reviews signed with a single asterisk or "star" (*) in the 1844-46 New York "Tribune." Fuller did see fit to re-write some of his paragraphs when she disagreed with him, and she probably wrote a few of these on her own--still using Mathew's signature, as though he was ghost-writing for her--except that he wasn't, because it was his long-time pseudonym. Mathew had used that pseudonym since 1829, and continued to use it until at least 1873--so it was his long before Fuller claimed it. The two pieces signed "F." from "The Dial" mentioned in this video, as being republished in "Papers on Literature and Art," were written by Mathew, not Fuller. That includes "A Short Essay on Critics," the very first article (after Emerson's introduction) in the entire journal. By 1839, Mathew had nine years' experience as a heavily-published reviewer (almost 400 reviews in the 1830-33 New York "American," also signed with a "star")--Fuller had none, and yet scholars believe she wrote that essay. Fuller also plagiarized nine of Mathew's "star"-signed reviews from the "Tribune" in that book. I think she simply was so driven by ambition, and Mathew's remaining incognito made it so tempting for her, that she couldn't resist that temptation. I have posted three papers on this subject, on Academia dot edu.

Watching 'From Rags to Riches: The Incredible Journey of Samuel Johnson' was a deeply moving experience. This documentary beautifully narrates the life of Samuel Johnson, illustrating not just his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a literary giant, but also highlighting the resilience, intellect, and sheer determination it took to overcome the challenges he faced. Johnson's story is a powerful reminder that greatness is born not from circumstances, but from the strength of character and the perseverance to pursue one's passion against all odds. The documentary's detailed recounting of Johnson's life, enriched by his contributions to literature and the English language, is both educational and inspiring. It serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of human achievement and the transformative power of ambition and hard work. A must-watch for anyone in need of motivation or a reminder of what's possible with dedication and belief in oneself.
