    The wire that is springy is tempered steel. It was used during world war 2 in many fluorescent snd other fixtures. The war time restrictions on metals dictated it. It is heat treated to resist rust and it is a slightly better conductor. The insulation has no rubber in it, only several cotton braids over each other. It is pretty rare, so definitely leave it in place. Some ballasts had it too. Try a magnet on it. It will stick. Designed for world war 2 material rationing. I have fluorescent units with it as well. The 2 lamp ballast has 2 separate 20 watt chokes inside and it is known as a 2-multiple ballast. I have a rare 3-multiple GE ballast that is pretty rare, and there are also even rarer 4-multiple ballasts! Glad ya didn’t use cool white. They are nasty and are trash can fodder. Cheers! 😋

    The Windows sticker on that Lenovo PC was certainly added later by the previous owner. That sticker is a Windows 10 (Post 1809) sticker that started shipping on PC's in 2018...which is the cutoff for computers that support Windows 11 (hence why it says "Windows, and not Windows 10). OEM's always place those Windows stickers on the side or rear. Never the front...at least not since Windows 7. Microsoft knew what they were doing as the sticker indicated licensing for Windows 10, and later Windows 11 as the hardware of that time would support it. Hopefully this makes sense. Because your PC is from 2013, it was probably configured with Windows 7, and there would have been a slightly different sticker on the side to represent Windows 8.

    I've gotten a whole bunch of 12V 15W fixtures that are single bulb and dual bulb. Also repaired a 12V ballast for a 9W CFT9 bulb. Ballast for it the caps was blown and the transistors was blown. Fixed it with new caps and transistors and she is good as new! Also gotten the kind of ballasts for buses that are also preheat type, but not like this. You use the control wire on it to turn off the high voltage side and leave the filaments glowing. This ballast is 24V.

    I found a couple of those on Ebay new, those preheat ballasts for f20 bulbs, i reballasted a fluorescent drafting lamp i have that uses 2 f15 lamps. Had to modify the ballast by cutting off a couple of the mounting fins to get the ballasts to fit in the lamp, the ballasts i bought weren't made too much later than the one you found. 2019. I'd say it probably likely depends on where you shop to determine whether you can still get certain components or not

    Wow, those fixtures turned out great! It kind of has me tempted to go through and fully repaint my half-pipe kitchen unit! Since your last upload, I actually ended up acquiring three more kitchen units incredibly lol. (I probably ought to video my own)Regarding that really weird stiff wire I’m pretty sure I’ve encountered that stuff before as well, and I am pretty sure it’s steel. Possibly made around World War II era during the material shortages and rationing I would think. Good score with those 4 inch fitters, from what I’ve seen the kitchen units would’ve shipped with acorn style low profile plugs so they would fit in the adapter and fitter. Anyways, I enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing!

    The choke ballast WILL run 6 inch or 8 inch diameter circline just fine! It is a 14/15/20/22 watt choke, and the wires on the 32 watt ballast are type F fixture wire, and it is rubber insulated with a cotton braid over it is fine, until exposed to heat, in this case from the ballast. Heat dries out the rubber and the cotton braid. I have repaired so many I lost count, even went inside and replaced wires on some ballasts. And oops type RF wire.

    • @Mercovay
      @Mercovay 3 месяца назад

    11:44 It seems like you need a thermally-protected ballast for circlines. So that would be Advance model LC-14-20-C-TP instead of model LC-14-20-C. You can also use model LO-13-22-TP, but it is more underpowered. Also, I think the IPP ballast that came with the circline fixture is actually a preheat ballast with an integral starter. The minimum starting temperature and current draw seem to suggest that.

    • @Mercovay
      @Mercovay 3 месяца назад

      Interesting, thanks for the information! I don't remember how the original ballast operated when turning on its been many years since it was last installed. It indeed could have been preheat with an internal starter now that you mention it, I remember seeing models like that at the time. However for some reason I want to say it acted more rapid start like, though I could be wrong. I'll have to connect it up sometime and take a look, thinking back I probably should have done that first before removing it but oh well.

  • @fionathefox8945
    @fionathefox8945 3 месяца назад

    I ended up buying an old circline that was rusty AF and I spray painted it and it's installed in my bed room. I didn't make a video but got some pics, it apparently was from the early 70s I think but it used an older ballast and still has the original tubes, it uses 1 big one small rings. I also ended up picking up a few spare ones to install once I got the choice of lighting here, my parents seem to prefer incandescent chandeliers over these cool ring lights. There's something about these that's just cool to me. Apparently the 2 I got as a set were salvaged from an old drive in that was built in the late 40s and oddly they were in better condition than the old 70s one I refurbished. Didn't come with the bulbs tho.

    • @rs12official
      @rs12official 3 месяца назад

      It seems like the ballasts need to be thermally-protected to run circlines. The standard version (LC-14-20-C) like the one Parrot175 showed is not compatible with circlines, whereas the thermally-protected model (LC-14-20-C-TP) is compatible with circlines and listed under circlines in the Advance catalog I looked at.

    • @chubbyadler3276
      @chubbyadler3276 3 месяца назад

      I've seen that on most reactive ballasts, including the ones for BX lamps. and for my magnifying ring lights.

  • @worldwidehidcollectorusa3519
    @worldwidehidcollectorusa3519 3 месяца назад

    In my experience, I have noticed that the Advance LC1420 preheat fluorescent ballasts often underpower F20T12 tubes and 22W T9 circline lamps but often overdrive F15T8 tubes. I have later found that the Advance LC25 preheat fluorescent ballasts seem to properly drive F20T12 tubes and 22W circline fluorescent lamps even though they have been rated for F25T12 tubes, but seem to severely underpower them. Additionally, I have also seen those LC25 preheat ballasts being rated for 18W PL-L CFL lamps and they seem to drive them very well in addition to F20T12 tubes and 22W circline lamps.

    • @worldwidehidcollectorusa3519
      @worldwidehidcollectorusa3519 3 месяца назад

      Additionally, whenever I am thinking of rewiring older preheat fluorescent fixtures but want to keep older hard to find ballasts, I have also considered using screw terminal connectors like the Europeans have with many of their ballasts so that the original ballast stays in place but the old fragile wires get removed and replaced with new wiring.

    • @Mercovay
      @Mercovay 3 месяца назад

      Those European screw terminal connecters are a great idea with these old ballasts having such fragile wires. Too bad American ballasts never integrated those terminals into the ballasts like the Europeans did.

    Brasso is "polish" and it is labeled for aluminum, so why shouldn't it work? That's what they want you to think, anyway. Don't know what it will do until you've already done it. That said, rubbing compound from the automotive supply store may be the way to go at this point. The only things I would have done different when hanging the first lamp is to try to include a ground from the ballast mount to the box, as well as to turn the starter toward the back from the camera's view so that it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Maybe angle it some so that you can still turn it on if you're looking for it, but to where it's not sticking way out in your view. I'm also wondering if the motherboard for that computer was also used in an all in one computer/monitor deal like was popular in 2013.

    • @Mercovay
      @Mercovay 3 месяца назад

      For grounding the circline adapter I was hoping grounding the globe fixture it attaches to would be sufficient with the globe screws around the edge biting into the adapter itself. Also I wouldn't be surprised if that motherboard was used in other machines, I'm sure Lenovo tried to use the same one often to reduce part costs.

  • @ianbelletti6241
    @ianbelletti6241 3 месяца назад

    A little tip: after cleaning all the blades, loosen all the mounting screws on each blade and mount and push the blades toward the motor as you retighten the screws. Youd be surprised how often wobble os caused by an installer letting a blade get secured a little further out than the others. If this fails to work you may need a balancing kit to add a little bit of weight to one of the blades. If the motor itself is out of balance there's not much you can do to fix it.
