I’m not getting any audio on this clip. anybody else with the same issue?Ty.
Jeff seems like a class act, not your typical rock star.
Wonderful! What a musically fascinating reflection and citation of Just What I Needed - very gracious to cite (and even vividly demonstrate) the reasonable if surprising influence of the Cars …. 38 Special certainly took those eighth notes in a more overtly aggressive not to say crude Southern direction 😂… but no matter how much I prefer the Cars’ sensibility, I hear HOL nearly daily for my workouts and Jeff’s playing puts HOL in my top 100 ever…. and anyway the song rightly belongs in any rock and roll top 500 (along of course with JWIN)🎉
A great classic solo that never gets old
Jeff has been my biggest influential player that helped me in my life’s path in performing music. 38 Special has always been my favorite band. I never limited myself to any single genre or music style, and now seeing and hearing Jeff Carlisi describe his life in music it is no wonder how his playing guided and influenced so many people to play rock and roll. His influences were the same as mine! Thank you Mr. Carlisi…And seeing your custom Explorer brings back memories of seeing you play it in many videos. That is my favorite guitar and most wanted of all time.
A thing of beauty.
This was a great find. I've never seen it before. Always loved this song because of the guitar work. Thanks for putting this up.
Wow this is good.
Saw you guys open for Blackfoot and Molly Hatchet before you hit it big. I knew that night you guys were gonna be huge. I thought you were the best group that night. Have seen you multiple times since. Always loved your playing, Jeff. Still playing 2-3 38 Special songs even now in a cover band. I’m 66 btw. 🤘
.38 Special has been such a huge influence on my life, and i think most of all, they are Spring and Summertime. There is not a single memory of spring and summer time as a young kid, and even now as an adult. Funny Jeff mentioned the old Rainbow Music Hall in my hometown in Denver, Colorado. I was at that show, i was still pretty young at the time, and i went to the show with my Uncle. The Rainbow was a small venue w just amazing acoustics and it just like contained all the music and it just seemed to resonate all around you. There was not a bad seat anywhere, it was all general admission, and it was not uncommon for lines starting to form for a show even a day or two before hand. Funny, sometimes, and i even experienced it when i was a 14 we got in line for Night Ranger during the Midnight Madness tour at lunch time the day before the show. There was even a show the night before, indont remember who it was, but there were 2 lines one for Night Ranger, and the other for that nights show. Needless to say we were front row for Night Ranger, and Ratt opened up for them that night, what an amazing ahow that was. Ive seen .38 Special in more places than any other band ive seen play live. First time was at the Rainbow, but went on to see them at Red Rocks Amphitheater also here just outside Denver in Morrison and its a natural ampitheater compliments of the mointains, and just an amazing place thats had just iconic shows there, .38 Special, Loverboy, Steve Miller Band, ZZ Top, Van Halen, Blues Traveler, Jimmy Buffet almost every summer, and just on and on. When i was in HS we almost lived at Red Rocks every summer as they used to have "The Summer of Stars" and you could buy packages that would have 4 or 5 shows included in it. Great times. I swear, every .38 Special song i hear, is a reminders of a girl. But also memories at amusement park rides, county and state Fairs, and .38 Special rocking the walls off my Barracks in Okinawa, Japan when I was stationed there when i was on active duty in the U.S. Marines, on several Navy ships my platoon and team was attached to as part of a Naval and Marine Battle Group, .38 Special in the mid and late 80's in the Med and Indian oceans where we were conducting operations, the 1st Gulf War, or later in my Police Cruiser when i worked as a SWAT/K9 Police...and alsways me playing along with the songs on my Les Paul and, or my Hummingbird Acoustic....man .38 Special is just like a best friend thats always right there all the time.❤😎🎸
Great video! Funny how just being a "fan/listener" of music changes when you pick up an instrument. I'm an old man now, pushing 50, but as an only child, with patents who always worked long hours, there was ALWAYS music playing. Age 6, my parents bought me my own TV (with cable) for my room. Unheard of in those days. I remember watching MTV launch in 82. It was the only channel I watched. I knew every ban f, song and could describe the video when asked lol. I remember watching Hold on Loosely. Once picked up a guitar, every song I knew,it was like hearing them for the first time. Crazy how just picking up an instrument you enjoy, can completely change your intrest in music and even how you hear music. Great vid, great band, and artist! 👍🤘🏻
What a great video! I just stumbled across this and was reminded of how much I enjoyed his playing over the years. I see now that I’ve been playing this song wrong all this time. Jeff is such a melodic player, forever a fan especially after watching this!
Hard Times breed Great Music.... ...had the economy been cruising, a company would've snapped this guy up in a second - and they might've been 22 Short instead of 38 Special...
This is a freaking HIDDEN GEM of a video.....
35:15 audio ends for 15 mins - too bad -this song always reminds me of “Wayne’s World” 🤣 Your riff is what they immiatatd
Jeff, I have loved your playing and style since '78. Back in the day (79) we covered "I Just Wanna Rock n Roll" . We always saved it for the last set which generated complete mayhem on stage, chaos and frenzy on the dance floor. What a great song. And now 44 yrs later, just started another band . We're doing "Hold on loosely". How cool is that! So Jeff, you've had impact on people's liver for almost or probly over a half century!!!! Now THAT is a career. Thanks for everything. Loved this indepth background. And, the best advice for performing as a team at 30:30 to 31:00 into this video is priceless! Thanks again and God bless 🙌
Jeff is a great guy AND composer / player. +HOL is one of the best Classic Rock solos ever period. Ppl forget this is his IP, & the video publisher also, in this "Free Stuff" era we live in now. We're lucky it's on YT at all. Best lesson by an artist I've seen. Rock on Jeff, thanks for the great tunes & memories !!!!! 🎶🎸✌️
What a masterclass in technic and skill. A great opportunity.
Wow man that is the best lesson .. right from the composer
Just saw 38 Special for the 5th time in the past few years. I was watching Don Barnes and how he played this song. How cool to find this video by the original guitarist and co-writer of the song! At 51 years old, I have a guitar that I don’t know how to play…. But maybe I can learn a bit of this great song. I play a mean air guitar during the shows though. Ha.
I hear some Barry Bailey influence in the lead pattern, excellent in every way
Video looses audio at 35:10 and comes back on at 48:54
My first concert ever was KISS in San Diego, August 19, 1977, the Love Gun Tour. The opening bands were 38 Special followed by Cheap Trick. The best $20 I ever spent. I still have my KISS tour book and ticket stub. 👍
my favorite song from 38 special thanks for creating this tune!!
Thanks for the great music. "Hold On Loosely" and "Caught Up In You" are two of my all time favorites.
I can not believe it has taken me 10 years to find this video!!! 38 Special's music is one of my favorite bands because of the way you play lead guitar and the energy in the songs you wrote on your own... I found your interview with Greg Martin that lead me here... kind of late, but thanks for sharing your approach to writing out your ideas... Are you still writing today?
Thanks for uploading and creating this channel. Good job. 👍👍
This man is an awesome musician , lyricist , .......just talented and so open , honest , and humble. I'm an immediate fan !!! Absolutely 💯 percent. ‼️‼️🥇🥈🥉🏅🏆👍👍🏆 This man is amazing. What a most decent human being. I'm actually intrigued with Jeff. Will see if he has an autobiography or anything like that.
Looks like the music has been edited out, did somebody forget that he wrote it it’s not copyright infringement? Yup they censored the music. Jesus.
You can have the best riff in the world but if you don't have a melodic voice to accompany it that will never work. In the end it is a compendium of everything. If you are with great musicians who create great riffs and great melodies, the rest is just letting yourself go.
I air guitar to that solo all the time
Did the audio get removed from this? Because I am getting none whatsoever. And it's not my phone as any other RUclips uploads have audio.
audio comes back at 48:54
Thank you Jeff for your contribution to southern Rock , you made the difference ! Would love to see 38 special w/ Jeff Carlisi back on stage !

My ex played hold on loosely to me on his guitar.
This, was my ex's and my song together. I can't listen to it. 😢
This guy must slay so much tail. Bet he never wraps it. Feel better that way
What an incredible guitarist. The feel is there every time he plays. Very humble man as well.
Great lesson. Great Song. Great playing! Thank you!
Thank you Jeff. Your playing in this song is one of my most favorite guitar pieces. I'm 68 and I had something going for a while in the 80s but I was a front man and a rythnm player. I have always wanted to play like you do in this song and you posting it at the end will help me to finally do it, God willing. Your playing is excellent and you really make the unruly guitar into a beautiful instrument! I've listened to one isolated track and your chords are beautiful too. Thank you for sharing your gift.
"Hold On Loosely" is a great example of a song that is a lot easier to play on a Gibson than it is on a Fender (and I say that as a Telecaster guy). The longer scale length of Fenders means you have to really stretch far to fret that C# on the D string. A lot easier to do on a Gibson because it's shorter.
No volume. And my volume is switched on and turned up.😊
Flat down ace, PERIOD!!
Excellent live version! Thanks for keeping real music alive. Thanks for sharing this with us all, I love hearing the live uncompressed truth . Best wishes from Northern Ireland. 🌌🌅🌠🕊
His soloing is what I aspire to. It fits and is not overdone. Love it.
38 Special w/JC is still the best rock band ever
Video lost sound
Always loved 38 special music. Just awesome good time Rock!!!!
