I was listening to the Steve Bamford podcast the day after Xander won his first major championship, the PGA. They were pondering whether Xander was a one hit wonder or would he win another? My comment was that Phil Mickelson was 33 before he won his first major and that opened up the floodgates and Phil currently sits at 6 so expect Xander to win more. Xander is still 3 years younger than Phil was when winning his first. Of course we all know that Xander followed up his first with his second major win at the Open championship. The biggest mind blower for me is that Phil has never been ranked as the world’s number one golfer even with 57 worldwide wins. I remember the week he was almost assured the number 1 spot but things didn’t work out. Scottie is deserved of the number 1 spot but with his swing it only takes a fraction to go wrong for things to go sideways. Xanders game is so effortless and sustainable that I fully expect him to take the number one spot. Probably in 2025. We’ll see. The Rickie Fowler take resinates with me. I’m a big fan of the young man, a local boy. He grew up and learned to play golf at the driving range just down the street from where I live. I’m a little surprised he didn’t follow both Phil and John to LIV but maybe he should have or will? I left this comment before Byron mentioned Rickie to LIV, lol! Thanks guys for your great content.
This is a really incredible comment LLM! Xander winning his 2nd major in the same year he won his first, is insane. What I find most fascinating was his Open track record before winning it. His game is built for majors. He has the most well rounded skill set of anyone on tour. It was always just his mental ability to go out and win the damn thing. Rickie ... well ... yeah ... lol ...
As a massive fan of the PME this was super cool to hear how it started. Listener since around 2017!
Bearded Joe I!!
Nice podcast. Listening to you makes me more aware of betting on finishing positions so thanks for that
Feels like a trap, but I’m rolling with Tommy F Baby this week. And the F ain’t for First place. Have a great week, Joe!
Big week #chickendinner
Let’s goooo!!! Best time of the week! Good luck on the bets everyone! I’m on Aaron Rai 30/1 💰🤝
Great show Joe hope you’re having a kick ass Summer brotha!⛳️🏌🏼♂️🏅
Great show per usual, Joe. Appreciate you opening up, it’s refreshing to hear someone that doesn’t have all the answers..
Great show. First time watching but will watch again
@@neilmechem4576 glad you checked it out. Welcome aboard friend!
Me too .... ditto!
I read Ben Coley twice a week at Sporting Life. His golf tips make a lot of money. Lot of research and insight which the average fan like me do not have access to. Coley's player comments before each major are often hilarious. Has a dog called Ed! Fantastic journalist.
Great show Joe ,Great guest. The Yoda .Ben Coley. That man paid off my mortgage. could listen to you too all day. Thanks
Let’s go. Nothing but winners. Keep it up mate.
Nice to have you back, Joe! Glad you had a nice time away. Give me Tommy Fleetjesus this week bc I hate money
Love it. A lot of love for Tommy Lad this week! Thanks for checking out the show my man
Bhatia did have 20 plus birdies or better last week, not 2 sure about not liking him in a pure birdie fest....
he's only got to -20 twice in his pga tour career, even on the easiest of tracks. never did it on KFT either love akshay and hope he does, i just prefer him in tougher conditions
We are going to get a winner soon, I can feel it! I have been here long enough to remember when we hit Rocket Mortgage winner Cam Davis at 110/1 in 2021 😮💨
Yeah- superb traeler!
My favorite hour of every Monday night
You're the man thank you!
screw you, signed grant
I encourage ANY golf addict to go spend a week in Pinehurst. Play Tobacco Road, Pinehurst #2, #4, #6, play the Cradle, eat in the restaurant and get a tour from the shoe guy in the locker room. I promise it is one of the best places to just soak in golf history and a challenge you can't get anywhere else! I was lucky enough to play #2 in a tournament and it is just a one-of-a-kind challenge.
really good point at 21:30 about the selection bias of what we see people doing on social media.
Good Stuff. So even though Sungai Im was the only other Golfer besides Rory that gained in Length off the Tee in 2019 other than Rory the top 5 didnt Gain im distance. However all the Top 6 did gain in Fairways Gained (Accuracy) so with the downpour Monday/Tues that the Course got i think the Rough will be Lush.
Solid show, 2 guys that I respect in this space. Appreciate your discussion re Graysons passing and mental health.
Well said in final thoughts 💯
Thanks man
Joe, the addtional comments regarding Zander were great insights. Your insights are worth sharing and appreciate that you do.
Much appreciated man thank you
Joe, final thoughts today were fuego.
Thanks dude 🔥
Need more of this collaboration great show ⛳️
Thanks dude
Great stuff Joe!
I am obvious a LIV fan and I hope the winner will be one of Brooks, Rahm, Bryson, Cam Smith...and my wild card, Dean Burmester.
What is 9th worth on LIV...? 14 Major winner with 27 titles between them and you're asking that question? Keep in mind, Jon Rahm left the PGA just a few months ago as the best player in the world. He has not been able to win on LIV yet...does a move to another tour and a few months suddenly make the best just average...or is it maybe tougher on LIV than what the pro-PGA people want everybody to belief...?
Tiger, Spieth, Cantlay and others should stop overestimating their own importance in golf for starters. What type of "deal" is there to be made...there's no deal. The PGA expects PIF to pay them but the PGA is in the weaker position compared to LIV. Should PIF pay the PGA so the latter can attempt to regain the monopoly they had...? Maybe it's time people start thinking like adults and see things as they are and not what they wish it to be. Tours should stay separate and it's up to each tour to make its tour better to retain or attract golfers to it. - LIV golfers have contracts. They can't just up and leave. If Golfer A got $100 mil for a 5-year contract and has only played 1 year, will he really pay back $80 mil to go play on the PGA tour? - The tours have different formats and LIV has a team element. - PGA made its bed when they accepted the SSG deal. How can anybody even expect Yasir to invest his "blood money" (what they called the PIF money) into PGA when LIV Golf is treated as it is? You can't have your bread buttered on both sides...PGA golfers made the decision to stay on PGA and now they should live with the consequences (and less money) or try to get a contract with LIV...easy as pie. - PGA has realized that their product is weaker without the top golfers that went to LIV. PGA has fewer viewers now. PGA won't be able to negotiate the same type of deals with advertisers, sponsors, and TV bosses now with those golfers not on their tour anymore. So they should also maybe start to accept that their role has diminished and beggars can't be choosers. The PGA needs LIV golfers....LIV doesn't need the PGA, LIV golfers just want to play in Majors. - LIV golfers can't just go and play on PGA events and the same goes for PGA golfers. The only thing in my mind that can happen is if the PGA and LIV negotiate events to be added in which the golfers from different tours can compete against each other. LIV golfers will not sign up to go play 30 to 40 weeks in a year again...just saying How: The Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup rotate. So I would suggest scrapping the Presidents Cup but not the team. Then you are left with the USA team, the European team, and the Presidents Cup team. Add a LIV team and the 4 teams can play against each other in a Ryder Cup-type tournament in a Round Robin at the end of the year to determine the winner. That would get enough viewers and push ratings. Maybe Yasir can be convinced to put up the money for such a tournament. - Maybe get PIF to take over the European Tour and attempt to make it as good as it was back in the 80's and 90's...independent from the PGA! - And lastly, the Majors should look at their criteria for invites. If the Majors can at least appear to be independent from PGA as they are supposed to be, and they invite the top 20/25 LIV golfers (excluding those with Major exemptions), the LIV fans might start supporting the majors again and this hate between the tours can start subsiding. The different tours should also have their own ranking system just like the PGA has the OWGR...and the Majors can use the tour's ranking to decide who they invite.
