Little Miles @ Ellen's 2nd birthday...
wonderful!
I Miss him dearly one of the greatest players ever, and this may be the only video of him playing slide anywhere!
I still have two of those pictures one taken by Allan Pogue a Polydor promotional and one that says "They're the Children on Ode 70".
That's some history. I remember hanging out with Steve at his house in Alamo Heights. He's why I play guitar.
Billy Gibbons at 2:05 and 2:12, although he was not in the group.
So cool
Damn this clears ZZ Top as being perverted chomo'S amen ....hot blue and righteous forever..RIP Dusty 🍺
The Children played our Junior Prom in Beaumont 1969. They were two hours late. And they were fantastic. Kenny was such a little bad ass. RIP
Rip Kenny Cordray, Texas legend 🎸
Hello Miles. I recorded your fathers band, The Children, at Andrus Studios when I was an engineer (my first engineering job). It was somewhere between 1968 and 1970. I engineered several sessions with The Children and they were great. I also knew Kenny Cordray over the many years after that and recorded him many times over the decades. Your father (Steve Perron) was cool and talented. Best wishes to you. Linden Hudson
Linden, thank you for that. I can only imagine the "scene" you and those guys, oh, and one gal (Love you CW), were operating in back then. Kenny and Lou Cabaza told me some stories about when they recorded in LA after hooking up with Lou Adler. Awesome, shocking, and hilarious all at the same time.
Produced by Lou Adler? Wow, the top producer of the 60s thought enough of them to produce them.
Makes me very sad to hear that Kenny Cordray died last year - only just heard about this shocking news. Just as sad that Steve Perron passed away so many long years ago - a great rock and roller if ever there was one and still remembered by those who heard his music.
I was only 6 when dad died, so I didn't know what was happening really. With Kenny I'm just broken. I loved him so much.
So beautiful! Please someone add lyrics here !
Grandpa lives through his music for me. So happy I have this piece of him.
What an amazing mood it sets! I grew up in the 60-70's and love this style, but never heard of this band until now. Really glad I came across this song.
RIP Kenny Cordray
Love You Kenny! Fantastic Friend and I'll Always Remember You! Rest In Peace...
RIP Kenny
Terrific song!!! The Children were so very underrated. Saw them many times in Texas and they were a killer live band. Thanks for posting this gem. Their lp "Rebirth" was a classic of Texas psychedelia rock and gorgeous pop. Vocalists Cassell Webb and the late Steve Perron were awesome performers. The records never captured the immense power of this band, only hinted at it.

i love this interpretation!! Thanks for posting
JUST BOUGHT FRANCINE BY THE CHILDREN AND LIKED IT BETTER THAN THE ZZ TOP VERSION.
I love this so much! Thank you for sharing!
Kenny Cordray also issued a single of Francene in 87, Like the ZZ single, the A-side is in English & the B-Side is in Spanish. I'll have to record it and put it on youtube when I get a chance. I did add it to discogs: www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=2980413
Wow those pictures are great! I was working at Evans at that time and was guitar tech for Cordray for many years, really miss him. That Spanish version was great we would call him Emilio Cordrero! Thanks for posting those! ❤
Thanks for posting! Would love to have been there Friday night.
Kenny is my music teacher
In this version Steve Perron sings "If I caught her with Billy G" the ZZ Top version Billy Gibbons sings "If I caught her with with Steven P" I thing I would have enjoyed Steve Perrons music. Too bad he passed so young.
Dead on. It was Bily's "tribute" back to dad.
@@milesperron Your dad was a very talented man.
I wish grandpa was here today. Wish I could have met him
of our own-saw goose creek symphony / ramon ramon & 4 fabulous daddios-missed zappa cause had no car
I love this song even more now than I would have ever imagined!
This is my favorite tune by The Children without question. I see Luis Cabaza at 1:00-1:08, and he later played with my friend Tim Dulaine in Stray Dog. I wish we had a really clean copy of this great tune. Poster, are you Steve's son?
I still love this song.
Wow! This is an historic document. I'm a native Houstonian, but never heard this before. Thanks for posting it! Is there more?
Yup. One talented M F'er.
One of my favorites songs in this world. Beautifully done. Erie. Poetic.
kenny is my cousin. well, my moms cousin so i guess that makes him my 2nd? but he has ALWAYS kicked butt with any n all kinds of music....
@Patfaki Glad you liked it. Yes, that is Kenny on lead guitar. He was only in his mid-teens when that was recorded. He's still playing and has only gotten better with age. Yeah, Dad died in '73 and it was indeed way too soon. Thanks for the comments.
That is beautiful! TY for sharing. FF
Nothing like a little target practice on cactus and some "bird watching".
Great song.
I went to see The Children perform a number of times. Great band.
Went to school with Kenny at Lamar in the early 70's married my friend Hedi. Got in touch with him last year it was good to hear from him.
Very nice!
Miles, Thanks for posting this. I worked with Kenny Cordray in the 91-93 time frame (The Civilians) and heard a lot about The Children and Steve (your Dad?), but I never heard any of it. We even did a version of "Thief of Bagdhad" that was a lot of fun. Good stuff!
Good song, Kenny's one of the best musician/guitar players on the planet. Pastor Nathan very soulful, it must be a blast to have the opportunity to work with KC. Good stuff.
Kenny Cordray is an awesome musician/guitar player, I like this song and collaboration, it's great. Soulful, positive, spread the love!
Kenny Cordray is hands down one of the best musicians/guitar players on the planet. One thing about Kenny, he has alot of experience, plays very tastefully but has the capability of ripping your head off with the most unbelieveable playing, attitude, intensity and creative ability.
