I just added a new diamondy pickguard and the vinyl stickers to make it a bit more Pop 😬. Always try to use it for songs that kind fit with it 🤗

Hi, so I'm using Guitar Rig 5 to add the effects to my clean signal (post recording). And I usually tweak the presets to get it close to the original. I'd have to check my software to see how they're build up exactly. But for this one it was a Gratifier ("Modern Gratifier") and the preset "Prince in the Rain" mostly uses a Jazz Amp. But I'll check my software for more details on the amp settings :).

Oef this was like a year ago when I just started recording 😅... I can hear it better now, might even redo this one someday 🫠. (Or maybe some hearing loss with 3 little ones and all lol 😂). Nowadays I also check it on phone sound (cause headphones is way warmer and forgiving). But at the time I prolly just wanted to put out Maggie stuff, since there was zero documentation on her music (still today there isn’t an “official” tab). So better musicians from the community like yourself could build upon my initial version with this type of feedback. And I’m a Designer by trade (not musician or audio engineer), so sometimes I do hit “weird” brick walls when editing. Like I would record it clean and it sounds fine, but then with effects and on the original track it starts to weirdly “sing around” or harmonize weirdly, stuff like that. And for instance I did “Lucky” from Concrete Walls by ear and got a thumbs up by the band itself 😬. So sometimes it is a hit or miss with covers when you try to do it from scratch… Also, I just put out “Knife Under My Pillow” yesterday. @Take The Leep Okay, your covers of "Different" and "Knife Under My Pillow" are 1000 times better! There's nearly nothing I could criticise. Keep it up! It is a great skill to know which fret you have to play while hearing a note. I learned this some years ago by myself, just like you! Sure, there are very difficult songs (e.g. fast parts, speed metal, guitar drowning in the noise of the other instruments). Keep it up!

And yeah when I have some more time freeing up, I do want to go back in my library and see which covers can be improved or removed (although I forget songs as fast as I learn them haha, “maintenance” of old songs is too time consuming 🫣). Too bad I can’t edit an old upload (like in Vimeo)… keep on rockin’ 🤘!

Thanks 🤗! Yeah same 🤷… I’ve been listening to a bunch of Nickelback interviews lately, and their strong point is that they just learned to lean in on the “hate” and roll with it… but keep delivering awesome shows and let the music speak for itself 🤗.

@@TakeTheLeepx Yeah, I watched some too to try to understand… I started to get curious as I joined a band, we do acoustic grunge and post-grunge covers, and we play Rockstar… which is a simple but fun song to play

Ehm… not sure what you mean, but with the DI signal and filters you can make it sound like however you want(?). I record the clean sound and try to match the original song. Also the verse is mostly palm muted.

@@anastaha4591 haha ok (thought you were trolling me at first 😬). But the song itself is also more in the “pop”-punk area, so the guitars are quite hidden in the mix. I used some more pop-esque jazz amp filters with a little bit of distortion. So it feels kind of “soft”. I also recently did Nickelback with “Animals”, those guitars are way more raw and present

Thanks 🤗! Yeah the Stagg is awesome, one of my fave guitars to just pick up and play when I’m upstairs in the attic studio. I do play way more (practice) on my living room semi-acoustic Ibanez (so that one is played in way more). And mostly use my upstairs guitars just for recording the covers (25/30 min sessions per song on average). But the Stagg has a nice smooth finish on the neck so you can slide up and down easily 🤗. I’m not sure if it was a “factory mistake”, but my Stagg didn’t have any dots on the frets… well… it had black on black, which did look cool. And I played on it like that for a bit, but it’s way harder to see where your hand has to go. So I stuck on dots myself and now it’s as easy to play on it like any other guitar. I also always replace the factory string on any guitar with Ernie Ball (Slinky’s). So all my guitars have the same kind of feel with the strings. Funny story, I was going for a “cheaper” guitar (Jackson Dinky) for a red guitar first back then. But after ordering they said it was out of stock, but they did have this bit more expensive Stagg Silveray. Forked up a little bit more and no regrets 👍. In general the guitars in the +€200,- range just have a nicer finish than stuff below 😬
