I kind of like to find the rare and obscure stuff, so here is one from the Galax, 1954 convention, I'm not sure if it's Esker singing lead.

Always loved her voice
My uncle bought the 45 from them when they were performing at Admiral Grill, in Bailey's Crossroads outside of DC. Only a few hundred copies were pressed.
Good stuff, Banjorama!🎉😊
Love it from West Virginia
Hey, I took that picture! Behind Benny in the tweedy sport jacket is Ralph Rinzler. Barely visible to the left of Don is my friend Peter Craig (active BG musician to this day in the Hartford area), but he was known as Pete Ranov then. I don't know who the bass player is. Are you sure it's '66? I was at Fincastle in '65 and '66 and only a few slides survived. Since others that survived include the Stanley Brothers, who only appeared together in '65, I assumed they all were. (Carter died in December, '66, but in that year, he was not well enough to appear at this Labor-Day-Weekend event). Another that I took from '65 is one of Doc Watson. It is on a two-page spread in the middle of the Doc Watson bio, "Blind but now I see." I don't mind your using my photo, but would appreciate the photo credit. I'd appreciate it if you'd add the following wherever you use it: "© Peter S. Shenkin, used by permission to Daniel Sheffield". Thanks!
I'm referring to the photo visible around 0:10.
Old time bluegrass. I love it

The first recording of Earl Scruggs on banjo
Some of my ancestors
This is absolutely incredible. Any idea how this tape came into being?
Originally taped by Tony Alderman.
I swear I have been looking for this song for 5 years and I finally found it I love this song it reminds me so much of my childhood
Beautiful !
sans oublier lonzo et oscar ses complices
When you put his name and title of this song, it gives you lyrics that are definitely not this song
That tall fellow in black is cowboy film star Sunset Carson.
Miss you, Jim, Naomi, my beloved Randy, Jimmy ❤❤❤🎵
Thanks for posting this. Do we know who the musicians are on this live recording?
Glen was my Great Grandmother’s nephew and often sang with my Grandparents. I have an acetate disc they recorded together. Wish I could find a copy of this one.
The real deal!
This is a real gem. 💎
It‘s most likely James Bryan on the fiddle, or am I mistaken? 👀
My Dad singing! Does my heart good to hear his voice and the men he played with! ❤
Intriguingly, this is a misattribution (or a monicker used by label owner Carl Burkhardt). The group here is Dave Woolum and his band the Laurel County Boys. "Have You Heard" and "It's Wonderful To Know" were originally issued on Excellent 403 in 1958.
Thank you!!! God bless ya.
This is what you call No-Holds- Barred bluegrass !
@kathysanders192 Scott Hatfield was my dad and played banjo on this Not Jd Crowe He loved JD’s playing though And he liked your cousin a lot (Curly Parker)
Curiosly enough, Earl Scruggs *did* fill in for Shannon Grayson a few times before he went to work for Bill Monroe. If it wasn't for the "Come in, Shannon" remark there, I'd have sworn it was Earl playing that RB-11 he had.
Also, correct band name: Phantoms, not "Phantom."
I had the pleasure of hearing Joe Greene and a guitarist who might have been Vernon Lee Brown playing at a house party in Ashe Avenue in Raleigh NC in about 1965/66. The house was one of two in Ashe Ave occupied by NC State students who made up an old timey band and a bluegrass band. The "Bluegrass House" as it was called was the location of this party as it was on almost every Friday/Saturday night. Joe was supposedly in Raleigh to collect his guitarist (who might have been VL Brown, I can't be sure and for a good reason I'm not saying it was him, since the reason was Joe was collecting him from the NC State prison in Raleigh, having finished his residence for holding up a filling station. At least that is roughly the story Joe was giving out.) I suspect Joe found out about the parties in the house from other bluegrass musicians and he was certainly welcome. The main culprits in the Ashe house band went on to become the New Deal String Band although Gene Knight was still in the Navy and Rodney something? was on banjo. Rodney was a Poultry? (chicken farming) major at State and an amateur taxidermist. One of the running jokes was to send a new visitor to get ice from a particular fridge, which contained a frozen skunk Rodney was intending to work on. There was plenty of music, beer and weed. I picked up a short term girlfriend, hello Marilyn if you are still out there, and a love of bluegrass that has lasted about a million years now. Others that I can remember who lived in one of the two houses were, Bob White (Quail), Buck Peacock, Frank Greathouse and maybe LeRoy Savage. Perhaps someone who remembers can write this all down, or has, but they need to remember the "Pagagga Music Ball" to be complete. I'm Dave Beck, who now lives in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, a long way from Chapel Hill and Raleigh.
A good memorial, as banjoist Robbie passed away on June 24, 2024. His family name is spelled Macdonald. Joe Zumwalt and Chuck Wiley are also gone. The Phantoms were definitely a San Francisco Bay Area band...no New England connection.

Roy Acuff was just as big as Bob Wills,Hank Williams, and others. He wasn't given the spotlight on PBS ken Burns Country Music as the others. He was on the WSM Airwaves in the late 1930s on the Opry on the way to Oct 23,1992.
BLUEGRASS REAL GOOD AND SOLID. REAL FINE FIDDLE JOB THERE IS ETERNITY IN THAT SONG.
That’s my dad on the left, Joe Stuart.
good song, Roy Legg is new to me, but I''ll look for more by him and the Blue Ridge Travelers!!!
Best singer ever!!!
They might have played in New England at some point, but the Phantoms, they were one Northern California's top bluegrass bands, and that is how they viewed themselves as their reunion show in 2023 was at the iconic Berkeley music spot The Freight and Salvage. I saw them numerous times in the early '70's in the San Francisco Bay Area, and along with High Country, the class of California bluegrass bands.
Incredibly talented musicians
I like the way Jimmy sings...sometimes almost nonchalant, sometimes plain heart breaking. He must have been an amazing man to know
Thank you for this ❤
We're do I purchase this cd
